Rating 70.4

The Prestonfield Golf Club sits in the Scottish capital of Edinburgh, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Europe's top golfing destinations. James Braid, one of golf's best known-designers, laid out the golf course, which challenges players to hit the par of 70 while traversing its 6,206 yards. The course includes two oversize par-5s, compensated for by a batch of par-3 that come up short by modern measurements.

Then there's all the stuff in the middle: The heart of the course is its par-4s, which provide both distance and challenge, depending both on players' strength and which way the wind blows. A round of golf at the Prestonfield Golf Club kicks off on Cragend, a 291-yard par 4 that makes for an excellent way to open a game, with its slight dogleg right. Watch out for the parking lot on the right.

After the round, head to the Prestonfield Golf Club's clubhouse for coffee, cocktails and a daily lunch menu.

Great Course Conditions

A fantastic course in the city of Edinburgh, with terrific views of Arthur Seat and some fantastic holes.

We thoroughly enjoyed. Our experience was slightly negatively impacted as there was a group of 4 in front that were extremely new golfers at a very slow pace who didn’t let anyone play through which led to a few people walking off in front.

Nice course in city

Course is about 15 min drive from Waverly Station. Friendly staff. I rented clubs which were a mixed TaylorMade M4/Sims irons and stealth woods. Course layout is fairly straight and forgiving. Easy walkable course. Fluffy sand bunkers. Pace of play was under 4hrs and that was with a 5-min wait after the 4th hole. I was a single between two 2-somes. The group ahead were ladies from another country, as was I. What was strange was that neither groups would pair up with one another. Note that we were all the same skill level. The 2 some behind me (*locals) said they were in a hurry and asked to play through, which we did. In the end, those same guys were at the clubhouse.

I would definitely recommend this course.

* I assume they were locals after they departed in their own vehicles from the course.

Prestonfield GC

I accidentally booked the wrong date but Rosie was very helpful and organised a new tee time efficiently. We were a 2 ball but were paired with Kenny from London, John from Indiana US and his charming partner Carlyn who was extremely supportive of all golfers and clapped our good shouts enthusiastically - which was lovely. It was a cloudy day, a little windy but stayed dry. The course is a very pleasant parkland layout with some great views of thevolcanic rock (Arthur's Seat) in the background. I found the greens difficult as they were a bit slow (due to growth and the recent wet weather) - John however putted beautifully - so it was really just me, We got round in 3hrs 40 minutes - not bad for a scratch 4 ball. On the downside the chef phoned in sick - so there was no catering in the clubhouse. The clubhouse is substantial and the bar staff friendly and helpful. Overall a very good day at Prestonfield.

Arthur’s Seat…..what a view

Outward six was a very pleasant start and the last six are a changing challenge. The course was in great condition after the drenching of the last few weeks. Staff and fellow golfers were exceptional friendly.

Excellent course

The most beautiful and in best conditions course I've ever played. Such a nice golf course. All 18 holes are nice to play, long fairways, excellent greens and a wonderful layout of this course.

Go and play, that's all what I can say!

I'll definitely come back to play!
