Great day at the Golf Club of houston. Photo submitted by jmz320 on 08/25/2015
Jesse
Great course, it was nice to play where the PRO's have played. It gives you great prospective of how good they are.
Tournament Course is the best
This is the closest us amateurs can come to play a Course played by PGA professionals. Great true putting greens, extremely well designed course that tests the club selection and hitting angles. Fantastic clubhouse and courteous staff. Highly recommended if anyone is here in Houston for a visit
Great course, pace was horrible
I loved this course. It was beautiful, challenging, and well maintained. The practice facilities were top notch and the staff very friendly. Pace of play was horrible, but that seemed to mostly be the group in front of us holding everyone up. I would absolutely recommend playing here
EXCELLENT VAKUS
AWESOME DAY , NEED SOME FOOOD AND DRINK TO BE GREATLY IMPROVED,, NO DRINK ERVICE
Challenging but fair
First time playing the Tournament Course. Course and greens in excellent condition for the winter. Played on a Wednesday and the pace was very quick. Only 3 putted twice, and made a couple long putts because the greens were fair and true, even though they were fast. Threw away a good round on the back, but it was not because of the course, I just hit some bad shots. The short par 3's had many ball marks, but the golfers here were very good about fixing their ball marks, which is appreciated. Played the "Combo" tees and I would recommend them for good, players. Plays just under 6,900 yards and offers a fair challenge that is not too long. Look forward to playing this course again.
GREAT VALUE FOR A CHALLENGING COURSE
If you want to experience how PGA Tour players play, this is one of the course called the Tournament Course, you should check out. Staff is very friendly and the Club House is Gorgeous on the 19th Hole
Great round of golf!
Front nine extremely challenging with water coming into play either off the tee or upon approach on 7 of 9 holes. Greens exacty what the tour plays on, firm, receptive and extremely fast putting, but pure with the line. Driving range and all other amenities first rate. Great day at the golf course and best value for the money!
Mechanical failure
While playing 18 on Friday, my 1st cart died on the 4th hole. After immediately calling the club line, I did
Not receive a back-up cart until the 6th hole. The 2nd golf cart proceeded to “die” on the 13th hole. This was after 4pm, and I called the club line x3 times but there was no response.
This course is amazing, but the mechanical cart failures and poor response time of the staff definitely ruined my 1st experience.
If you play this course make sure they have throughly charged your equipment, it’s a long walk
Good condition for winter
Great & challenging layout. Course played tough in the conditions but still an enjoyable experience. Overall in good shape for winter in Texas.
One negative- don’t charge extra for range balls. Leaves a bad impression....
Always a treat to play challenging track.
11 a.m. tee time on Friday, Jan 15th. Played the White tees with friends for pace of play and to enjoy the round. Roughly 5500 yards. Next set of tees were at 6500 yards.
At this distance for our skill level it was all we wanted to bite off. Fairways were soft. Greens were receptive, slick as glass, and consistent for every hole. Pin positions were not torture. The toughest condition on this day was the wind. Temperature was 60's and sunny. Felt like upper 40's. Easily a 2-3 club up wind day. Everyone had a great day. The starters were friendly as well as cart girl and wait staff. We will go back.
Poor management and pace of place
I will start off by saying this was the longest round of golf I’ve play in my life and I didn’t even get to finish. I had a 1:20 tee time and didn’t tee off till 2:00 or so because they couldn’t get us a cart. Yet people who had tee times at 1:40, 1:50, and even 2:00 who were non members got carts before us and teed off before us. Although this place was a pga course the course management was horrible. Will say course was nice but not worth the pace of play, and poor management. Also had two bullets go over my head on number 6 tee box and called the shop and they didn’t care, nor did they care to comp or do anything for me since they are the ones that messed everything up. Wouldn’t recommend going here there are other courses not as nice but pace of place and management are way better.
Poor management
Had a tee time at 1:20 and didn’t tee off till 2:00 because they couldn’t get us a cart. Only was able to play through 16 and if I would have started at the right time I would have finished, also one of the longest rounds I’ve played in my life and didn’t even play all 18.. Great course, very slow pace of play, and terrible management. Great course, but not worth the hassle of pace of play and management.
very good "winter" golf conditions...
Overall staff were very friendly.
The course was in very good condition, especially considering the recent heavy rainfall. Greens are in very good shape, especially for this time of year, still with good speed and rolling true.
Pace of play was not very good. There were at couple of groups in front of us that had players that appeared to have never even swung a club before, including a guy that swung and completely missed the ball at least 25 times during the round. While we patiently waited on nearly every shot. NEVER, I repeat NEVER saw a ranger or marshal on the golf course throughout the entire round.
There was also no beverage cart service.
It seems that things have been stepped down a few notches since they are no longer hosting the PGA tour event.
Another example...range balls. They used to be there stacked up for player warm up. Now, you have to pay for them in advance in the pro shop. At this level of golf club, and at this price point, it is surprising that corporate now feels the need to nickel and dime the golfer. But, that is what I was told..."it's corporate's policy."
Love the course, but the 'experience' is not what it used to be.
