Great day at the Golf Club of houston. Photo submitted by jmz320 on 08/25/2015
very good "winter" golf conditions...
Overall staff were very friendly.
The course was in very good condition, especially considering the recent heavy rainfall. Greens are in very good shape, especially for this time of year, still with good speed and rolling true.
Pace of play was not very good. There were at couple of groups in front of us that had players that appeared to have never even swung a club before, including a guy that swung and completely missed the ball at least 25 times during the round. While we patiently waited on nearly every shot. NEVER, I repeat NEVER saw a ranger or marshal on the golf course throughout the entire round.
There was also no beverage cart service.
It seems that things have been stepped down a few notches since they are no longer hosting the PGA tour event.
Another example...range balls. They used to be there stacked up for player warm up. Now, you have to pay for them in advance in the pro shop. At this level of golf club, and at this price point, it is surprising that corporate now feels the need to nickel and dime the golfer. But, that is what I was told..."it's corporate's policy."
Love the course, but the 'experience' is not what it used to be.
Christmas Eve Round
Great course in terrible windy and cold conditions. Too difficult to walk due to green to tee distances. Needed beverage cart with hot beverages. Still a little too pricey for a weekday round. Need GPS on carts. Plenty of parking and the clubhouse is complete with all sorts of items.
Golf Club of Houston
The best golf course in Houston in my opinion. Awesome course, many levels above other courses...
Winter conditions but still very nice
Overall the course was in great shape when considering wet winter conditions. Greens were very soft but remarkably quick. Fairways were pretty soft also, so not a lot of roll out.. This course is one of my favorites in the Houston area.
Excellent Course
This was my first time back since playing the course a few years ago. It did not disappoint! The fairways were beautiful and the greens rolled true. I will be back for sure !!
I like the course, always have. This time I was informed at checkin that cart path rules were in effect even though it has not rained in almost a week. When on the course I saw no reason for the cart path only ruling. Also on checkin informed the guy in the pro shop my partner and I would need separate carts as he is in a high risk situation relative to Covid. I was told there would be a $50 surcharge for separate carts which I think is ridiculous. I was told it was because of high demand (on a Monday?) and they were trying to discourage one person per cart even if there were health risks. I assume the cart path only was also because of high demand. Trying to cut down on the wear and tear to the course. Again, after being on the course I saw no wear and tear that would warrant this ruling. I think both of these situations should have been made clear when I made my reservations.
Great Course
Nice course. The Shell Houston Open used to play here.
December Golf
Excellent course. Wet from overnight rain. Greens were smooth and fast. Bunkers in great shape. The clubhouse staff and marshalls were courteous. The price is a little high but overall fair.
Wow
A great course and great experience. It’s challenging but worth every moment!!!! Great pace of play and phenomenal condition given its December! A must play again!
Only problem was they were behind in the golf carts - otherwise very nice experience
Soaking wet
Last rain was on Saturday. Played Monday. Cart path only and for good reason. Soaking wet. My only complaint is that none of the bunkers had been prepared. They were a wreck.
Great layout.
Great
Course is great. Pick correct tees for your ability or it will be a long day. Greens are fast but big.
IM TALKING ABOUT MEMBER COURSE, NOT TOUR COURSE
This review is abt members only course. I noticed they combined the 2 reviews, but this is members. WOW!!! This is arguably the best in Houston. It is a real treat. It is so memorable. Played with my brother in-law, and decided to join. The pace simply can't be beat. Not a whole lot of members, and the members sometimes pick the tour course because we get that too(though I don't really understand why anyone would pick tour over member). Conditions are always great, couldn't ask for any better. The layout is special. It is absolutely top 3 in the area(I think tied for first with shadowhawk, have played almost all public and private.Value is great too. Initiation isn't terrible, great for money, and the dues are incredible for the money. It also includes passport privlages to Blackhawk and Blackhorse. Staff is super friendly. The starters, marshals, and closer are all some of the nicest people I know! The amenities might be the best part of the membership. 2 sides to the range. public side isn't great, but member side is awesome! The rest is members only. 3 hole short course, incredible short game area, amazing putting green. By far the best membership in Houston with the food being amazing, the passport, and the amenities. in total, you get 93 holes!
