Shorecliffs Golf Club
About
Shorecliffs Golf Course wanders through the coastal canyons and valleys of San Clemente, heading towards the beautiful shoreline. Situated just steps from the ocean, the course enjoys cool ocean breezes and a temperate climate, which makes it a year-round haven for golfers. Its location also provides the golf course with plenty of scenic ocean views. The course features narrow fairways tightly lined with trees and small greens bordered by sand bunkers. The front nine is shorter and requires more accuracy than the longer, wider back nine. Shorecliffs opens with one of the trickiest par-5s in the area. This dogleg left hole features trouble both left and right. Although the layout does offer a fair challenge, players of all skill levels will feel comfortable taking on the golf course.

would have had a better score of it wasn't for the first two holes Photo submitted by champ471 on 06/17/2014
Revamped and ready
After years of neglect Shorecliffs has been reborn...
Almost. Course in good shape. Greens good.
9s flipped. Par 70 now. 37 ,33.
Good value.
New clubhouse not quite ready but will be nice.
Go play.
Challenging but fun…little gem
I came out to SC to beat the Riverside heat. This course was a pleasant surprise. It was a challenging course, good price, good fairway and green conditions..and very friendly staff. I’ll be back!
Getting better...but more work to be done
We've been playing this course since Jan. '23. when it was 'very rough'. Over time, the crew has been making steady process, including opening up the clubhouse - sort of. However the tee boxes are a mess (#10 was soaking wet at 12:30pm). Greens still need more work as well, and pace of play was very slow as more marshalling is needed throughout the day.
tale of two nines
Front nine was not in good shape at all, layout was pretty bad and signage was terrible
back nine was pretty nice conditions we very nice and signage was much better
Nice Round. Fun course.
Super fun round. Course in great shape compared to last time I played and looks like it’s getting better by the
Sag. clubhouse is almost open. Greens are tricky/challenging and in nice condition. Overall a beautiful round.
sadly surprised
front nine was on bad shape
back was well designed and in much better shape
signage was hard to follow and holes did not come up in order on my yardage phone so distances were a guessing game
Getting better
Course has improved immensely the last couple of years, with the grass in the fairways in my mind being the greatest plus. Being partially in the new facilities is also a great plus. Having state of the art restrooms in the new facility is great but having trash container overflowing is not. Also I hope that permanent restrooms on the course is in the plan as using the outhouses is atrocious. Having roses around the t-boxes is asthetically beautiful but honey bees are attracted to them and anything swinging around them makes them angry??? Pace of play on this stay started off bad and at the turn was worse; with a 4 some leaving the green and a 4 some on the tee and another 2 some ahead of us for a 30 min wait??? Did get better but the 2 some ahead of us quit on 15 as did the group behind us driving by as we were waiting to t-off on 16. I like the staff here and play with a regular who is a friend so I'll be back but I don't know about the people in front and in back on this day!
nice course but terrible signature
course layout changes but they do no keep up with the signs to guide where the next hole.l
time wasted by severals groups trying to figure out which way to turn and or parh to next hole.
I know there’s been work but…
My first time here and I suppose I’ll come back but, the absolutely cannot increase the greens fees. I played based on a recommendation of all the improvements and it looks as though there’s been a lot going on there and still more to do but, some of what hasn’t been done and looks as though it may never be done… is confusing to say the least. More on that in a few…
The staff at the course were great. Friendly and helpful as well as seemingly excited too about the ongoing construction and work- soon coming to an end. The course is very short- even blues are under 58/5900 yds. Conditions are decent and certainly partly a product of the recent rain but in fairness somewhat too because of the changes and work. You do get a chance to work on accuracy and smart decisions here over just “swinging away”. Fairways- particularly on the front 9 are tight and on one short par 5- I think a landing zone may have only been about 20/30 yards in width. That makes for a weird iron off the tee and then possibly/likely a longer 2nd or sure layup for a 3rd shot to get safely on the green. A few blind shots and borderline boardwalk, mini golf shots are going to pepper your round. Fairways were decent and greens were too but, they probably ought to be monitoring ball and divot repairs when the marshals and rangers are circling the course (and they are out there 👍🏼)
A few things however remain puzzling for a place that’s apparently gone through the extensive, lengthy and even costly process of renovating… They have what appears to be a very pretty and well appointed clubhouse. I guess a pro shop, a restaurant and even event facility will be there and the architecture matches a pretty attractive and adjacent 55+ community that’s right next door. Practice facilities (although didn’t see a full-on driving range) are integrated into the clubhouse/social area in an appealing but also kind of congested manner. It’s a bit weird- like someone was thinking more about an office party or small event, than they were golf activities or even a wedding or a large scale affair. Additionally- while the work to the course itself is evident and probably been done at a C+/ B- level? Almost everything else within the course confines looks almost untouched from what it once was. Landscapes and terrain still have old and dilapidated structures- foot bridges and fences, etc. downed trees, overgrown ground cover. Tee boxes were often the size of pitcher’s mounds and in many cases also about as level. But worst of all- the cart paths look circa 1970 and should be envious of I-5 conditions. I mean not only weren’t the cart paths replaced but it appears as though no attempt was made to even “touch them up”. Huge pot holes, broken concrete and some areas just reduced to gravel. When a course is nearing completion of well advertised repairs and renovations- and simple things like ancillary ‘experience’ enhancements seem to be almost ignored- it makes you wonder how serious the venture was and how long it will last.
In summary- I wouldn’t pay anything more than $60 on a weekend for this track and even then it would be option number… last.
Welcome back
First time back in years. Course was in pretty good condition. No driving range but very nice (new) putting and chipping area. When new clubhouse opens it will be a very nice facility.
Very challenging tight course that demands good drives & good iron play. Course is back to playing full which nice. Greens still need some attention. Front nine conditions playing better than back nine. Bring extras balls, the tight fairways in the canyons demand straight drives.
Tremendous Improvement
This has been a "second rate", but therefore appropriately cheap, course for decades. However, the upgrade work on the seaward 9 is finally completed and is fabulous. I look forward to the new clubhouse, etc. Definitely a better and more satisfying experience!
Not bad. Love the improvements
I hadn’t played here in probably 10 years. They have made great improvements to the course! Course as a whole was in good condition and pace of play was not bad. My wife played with me and her only complaint was there are no bathrooms except for porta-johns.
After 2 years of remodeling finally in great shape
The course was a construction ground for more than 2 years but finally the have reopened it. Layout is great, some holes are a real challenge. Loved the greens.
