Shorecliffs Golf Club

Came back because another golfer said course had improved dramatically. Especially the greens.

The greens did look amazing, especially in contrast to the brown around them. They are also very hard and don't hold when it seems they should. I also think Shorecliffs is having an issue with their mower. Many of the greens had an uneven cut as if the mower was bouncing over the green while cutting.

The remainder of the course seemed about the same as before. The fairway landing zones need to be leveled and reseeded. The tees need to be resodded.

I enjoy the layout of the course. I usually struggle to control my drives and long fairway shots. Shorecliffs definitely challenges you in that area.

The staff is alway pleasant, the snack more than adequate and the parking convenient.

And I enjoyed my time on the course, not because of the playing conditions, but because of the retired 3 some that joined me.

Booked through golf now for a 645am tee time. I had no idea it could be that cold in Southern California. Be warned that it 6:45 AM at the end of November to temperature was hovering around 42°. Aside from that there is no downside to this course. We had nobody in front of us and were able to play at our own leisurely pace. The course itself was in decent shape. A lot of holes with ground under repair however there is signage on the course that states it is from changing out the grass. The course itself is not very challenging however there are a few long par threes and a couple very scenic holes some with very narrow fairways. I felt this was a great value questing only $48 for 18 holes with a cart.
The restaurant and bar and grill while it is dated in decor, has a pretty decent menu with some good food and great drinks. Definitely a place I will return to play golf and watch some football afterwards on a Sunday

The Pros: Amazingly cheap green fees for being in the OC and close to the ocean. Always have been paired up with other twosomes and seems like everyone who plays there is super nice. The staff if very nice as well.

The Cons: It is a municipal type course and nothing close to a private or country club manicured course. So if thats what you are expecting, you will be very dissapointed...but for paying $33 on a Saturday on golfnow, >VS $300 at Pelican or or $100 at Talega you can't complain. The course has some narrow challenging holes too..

Nice people. Not great course. .. But what do you expect for under $20.

Played the Blues (6244/71.1/130) in about 4 hours on an overcast, breezy morning. I played with Norman & Al, who were 84 & 70 years young, the company was very pleasant!

My first time playing here. This is a traditional, tight layout that meanders through upper middle class homes. I was expecting some ocean views when I looked it up online and saw how close it was located to the ocean. However, Shorecliffs is located down in a valley and you can neither see nor hear the ocean even though it is maybe 1/2 mile away.

I would grade it down for layout for a combination of the following: A) There are 3 different holes with in course OB. B) Many more holes than that have protective screens to protect homes from errant shots. C) Combine that with almost every hole being tight to very tight and having OB or red hazards down both sides the length of the hole with homes down 1 or both sides = poor layout in my opinion.

This may have been considered a good layout back in the persimmon wood days, maybe even in the hickory shaft days... but by modern standards, it is lacking. There was not a memorable hole out of the 18. But it's tightness makes it very challenging, 130 slope for the blues is probably too low. I hit everything from Driver to 7 iron off the tee of the par 5's and par 4's. I hit the ball well and pretty much avoided penalty strokes, and still came away with a very poor opinion of this course's layout.

Even with a substandard layout, I could give it a break if the conditions were good. IF...

The smallish greens were bumpy, HARD (not firm) and medium slow. That's the bad news. The good news is that they were probably the best part of the course.

Both the fairways and rough were thin with many areas of hardpan or dirt.

The sand traps were not well maintained. Evidently people who play here think the rakes are just ornaments.

The tees were mostly hardpan or thin, occasionally lush.

I was celebrating my 55th B-Day here, and on a day the course was absolutely packed, I may have been the youngest player on the course. The customer service was good, they got me matched up quickly and you cannot complain about a free round of golf. But this is not a course I would recommend to anyone. I have played several hundred courses in my life, and taking into account both layout and condition, this is on a short bottom list of places I would definitely never play again.

Seems better days are behind this course and facility. The back nine is much more challenging than the front. Sad to see the homes crumbling off the hillsides on hole #6, through no fault of the course but does give ideas of the times gone by. If you're going to play over the next couple of weeks, bring some kind of fly spray, the course is infested with billions of them.

Sewercliffs is in terrible shape. Didn't enjoy the round at all.

Played this course with my buddy for about the 5th time this year and still by far one of the toughest course in So Cal.

I had a great time playing here. The coarse was a little roughy and the greens could use some work. But I am not a great golfer and lost about 5 balls playing. So take my review for what it's worth.

Was out here on a Saturday with my girlfriend.
She didn't want to play but wanted to watch. $15 for riders.
It was pretty good for the money.
The course was pretty empty so didn't have to wait or be rushed to play.
Bring extra balls since you will loose few balls in the bushes.

The course is in terrible shape, almost like if abandoned. Only the greens are decent but definitely not as good as advertised. I played this course once before, didn't like it but decided to give it another shot: this is going to be my last time there as well as for my playing partner yesterday. Too bad because the staff is friendly and the location is great

Its an old course , but its near the ocean and the tunnel driving is half the fun. The course is taking a beating with the drought....... Hopefully the rain will come and get the moisture back in the earth to rejuvenate the fairways. The greens were and have always been in really good condition. The price was to tuff to resist for a great fun day of golfing......

I live in San Clemente and have played this course several time. Each time I play I swear I will never play it again. Terrible course. Poor conditions, gopher holes, poor fairways, ratty houses, narrow, green slime water....slow play...old dirty golf carts...terrible range and range balls...you name it. It's claim to fame are the greens. They are decent. Not worth it for free.... Don't waste your time or money...Second worse course in Southern Ca..behind Goat Hills in Oceanside...great climate though....

He played very slow and hit all over the Golf Course. I did not enjoy at all. Constantly being push by a 4-somes on 3 carts. It was a complete disaster.

Shot making and a creative imagination required. Nice greens with a risk reward style layout.

This course is difficult. It has creeks and narrow fairways lined with doughs that can bury the ball. However, because if all tat it's my favorite Cousteau. I was talking with an employee in the pro shop and he said out of the four or five local clubs their golf team won the tournament.
I believe because of how hard the course is to score on.Since I want to be a good golfer it's ideal for that reason.It also has a free chipping area which is important to me.

The play was very slow and took too much time to play the 18 holes. However, the cost to play was good and due to the water shortage the course was dry in many places, which caused poor lies, but this is expected until they change the source of watering. My husband lost 6 balls due to the many leaves on the course and the narrow areas at times. All in all good time and I would recommend play when not so closely scheduled!!

We got stuck behind a small tournament and it took almost six hours to finish. The fairways are too narrow. Tons of bushes on the sides. Lost about a dozen balls. I'm an 18 handicap so my drives go long but sometimes 10-20 feet off the fairway. Hated that part of the course. Fairways were in good shape and greens were excellent for the money. Watch out for the out of bounds along #8. Some a-hole picked up our balls and threw them off of the fairway. I won't play here again. Too many other options for the money.

Staff is great. Course is narrow, and commands accuracy. Greens are in excellent shape. Fairways do need further watering, but it is a drought ( dry and some bare spots). Got a great deal with golfnow, and they allowed my wife to ride. Great staff. Place is a pleasure.

I have played here for a long time and you know you have to bring a lot of balls. The fairways are a little rough but the greens are great the ball rolls real nice they have always had great green kudos to the ground crew.
