The Sea Ranch Golf Links

About
Sea Ranch Golf Links opened in 1974 as one of the first Scottish links-style golf courses to be built in the Western United States. The front nine stretches along the rugged North Coast, offering plenty of scenic ocean views, while the back nine moves inland, incorporating the small creeks that meander across the landscape. Mature redwoods and natural sea grass rough accent the golf course, especially along the fairways to provide some challenges. The design is noted for blending seamlessly with the scenic surroundings. While the golf course can seem intimidating, four diverse sets of tees make it more approachable for a range of skill levels. In addition to the course, Sea Ranch is also popular for its practice facilities, which include an all-grass driving range and two short game areas with putting and chipping greens.

Par 3 8th green. Probably the most picturesque hole on the course. Photo submitted by Richard4180889 on 02/19/2018
Great Track
We play Sea Ranch Golf Links a few times a year...check ahead for wind conditions, mornings usually better. It's the poor man's Pebble Beach!!!!!.Keep it on the fairway or you're toast....gas powered carts and rough cart path and fairways feel like off-roading!!! but we look forward to it...go for it!!!!
Needs grass
seems like the course is having problems recovering from punching the greens in the fall and with the fairways cut too short there's no grass growing
Sea Ranch
Course was fantastic, front was much dryers then the back from the weeks rain showers. The clubhouse sales person was not in the best of spirits but we were the first group out so he may have not had his cup of coffee yet. With the Covid protocols in place, there wasn't much in way of amenities offered.
Sea Ranch Challenge
The staff member and the club house was cranky and not very friendly.
The course layout was challenging and fun.
Unfortunately the greens were punched a week ago and they weren’t running true.
Overall good time...the afternoon staff member was a nice guy.
:(
Such a bummer. The staff seem friendly and the area is beautiful. Like others have said though, the course conditions are just plain bad. I really hope whatever is holding them back changes.

An Expensive Experience
This was the first time my son and I played this course, and were really disappointed. As previously mentioned in prior reviews the fairways were dead. The tee boxes were in OK shape, if you could find a place to tee up between divots. The greens had just been aerated and sanded. So not the best of putting conditions. Lastly, the back 9 was closed so we played the front twice. Again disappointing.
When we got there the person checking us in at the Pro Shop asked what we wanted to do, and rather gruffly might I add, when we found out the back 9 was closed. Of course we played, there just isn’t too many options, and we had been looking forward to it. And after all that we still payed $72 per person for the round. So rest assured we won’t be back.
Very disappointed.
Tess and greens we’re very good. Everything in between was a disaster. They apparently ran out of water in the spring and have not watered the fairways since. The fairways were rock hard and all the grass was dead making it nearly impossible to keep the ball from running off to places unknown. We vacation here every October and normally play several rounds. This year once was more than enough.
Dead fairways, awkward layout
Right out the gate, the greens were AMAZING and in excellent condition. Which makes sense because the grounds crew has not much else to keep up considering the local water supply mean the fairways are dead... bone dry dead!
Of equal annoyance were the several holes of 300+ yards that required a lay up off the tee box with an iron because of the placement of an obnoxious natural hazard. Unfortunately not a place I will play again.
Course is unable to water as much as necessary due to Fire requirements. It is a great course, just wish the GN tee times could be before noon
For the money I reckon
greens and t boxes were decent, fairways are dead and dirt,
Horrible! $$$$$$
Must play! Special place!
Absolutely one of my favorite designs!! Amazing course with fun layout along the coast line. Special place and a true hidden gem.
Course allowed to deteriorate
They stopped watering the fairways earlier this season. "Fairways" are hard packed earth covered with a thin layer of dead grass. Tee shots rolled and rolled into heavy rough bordering the fairways. Greens and fringe are in good shape.
Great Experience As Always
I've played the Sea Ranch Golf Links many times over the years, including once in June and once yesterday, and yesterday's experience was great as always.
The course layout is fantastic. It offers a wonderful variety while incorporating itself perfectly into the local topography and natural beauty. It's not very long from the white tees, but trees, thick rough, and frequent ocean wind will make you pay the price if you miss the fairway. Almost every hole offers fantastic ocean views, especially the 8th green which is right on the water.
The fairways are currently dry, but greens and greenside areas are still maintained very well. Pace of play is almost always great. It's very rare that 18 holes here takes longer than 4.5 hours. The course offers unique challenges every time you play it, and I will keep coming back for more!
