Cracking day out at Kirkistown.
Firstly, the lady in the car park heard me and my brother were teeing off after her three ball and said we could go before them. Secondly, the guy from the pro shop brought our buggy to the first tee box. Thank you. Thirdly, the members were very friendly and let us through, twice. The course was in lovely condition, especially the greens. Had an absolutely brilliant day and would highly recommend it.
Jack frost nipping at your toes.
Booked for 8.40am, got a text while driving to the course from Nial at the club to say there will be a delay because of frost. When got there Nial explained the situation. The 2 of us got on the course at 9.50am first as we were booked first so Nial done a great job arranging the times in order.
What can I say about the course apart from absolutely fantastic for the time of year and without mats as well, Credit to the grounds keeper. We will definitely be back here without a dought. Credit to Nial and the club. Happy New Year Kirkistown castle golf club.
Poor condition considering the time of year
The course looked and felt tired, fairways were full of weeds and appeared not to have been cut for quite a few days. The bunkers had weeds and clumps of grass growing in the sand in places. I played behind two woman who refused to let me through despite scurrying along to try and keep ahead.. They should advise their members what golfing etiquette means. The course ahead of them was empty. At least the weather was fine and the greens were good.
Lovely links course with some very daunting holes when playing in 30mph winds. Staff very helpful. Work being done on greens which was a shame as didn’t allow for proper putting but appreciate necessary to keep
Course condition good. Would recommend highly.
Super course, friendly staff
Alround great course in magnificent condition for time of year, the pro Niall is an absolute gentleman cant thank him enough for making us feel so welcome. Had a great lunch in the clubhouse afterwards great food and drink at a reasonable price
Great dry course, super greens
A great dry course for the time of year greens were in super condition good speed. A really great day food was good in the clubhouse as was the Guinness.
Good course to play
Took forever to get there but pleased I made the effort played with some members great people. Nice course
Good underapreciated links course
First time playing this course but really enjoyed it.
Staff and members were very friendly. We had no trouble with the pace of play and the greens in particular were in very good condition. Will hopefully play again soon.
Great morning s golf
Course was in excellent condition, greens 1st class and fairways, sun was out got a win. Great Sunday
Hidden gem
I play Kirkistown every year at xmas with our society. It is always in super condition and the greens are a joy to putt on.
I got the opportunity to play the links a few days ago and was very impressed with the total package. On arrival the pro was friendly and helpful, the course was in great order, especially the greens and after the golf, we all a had a golfers fry, which I would highly recommend. We have already booked to come in August.
Fantastic course and staff.
Play here a few times over the years and have to say what a fine links course. Greens are true all year round, never closed with the wet weather (like some mucky treks!!!) Great views, great holes 1 to 18. Tough test of skill but easy walked in well under 4 hrs. Professional is an absolute Star, couldn’t do enough. Bar & food well stocked, friendly staff all round clubhouse. Can’t wait to get back soon!!!
True Links
As the title suggests. This is a proper test of links golf. Recent weather has the fairways a Coffee colour and running faster than linford Christie. Greens are superb. Despite the rest of the course really bouncy the greens are receptive and pure. Don’t be put off by it being a par 69. Any under par score is commendable. Staff are extremely friendly and go out of their way to help. Food and bar prices are great value and as is the price of green fees. Membership for full member under £600 for 12 months guaranteed golf or they have a winter membership which is unreal price at £230. !!!!
Gem
I had heard good things about Kirkistown many times over the years and it did not disappoint. Simply a great golf coure. It's not the most dramatic or spectacular of courses (I'm maybe unfairly picturing some of our great coastal links courses) but make no mistake this is a very enjoyable fair test of golf. If the winds up its a challenge if the day is calm your in for a real treat
and hopefully a respectable card.
Golf now rocks!! Go have fun.
