Heron Bay Golf & Country Club

I’m from Phoenix and I’ve been in Atlanta for about 6 months. So I’ve been trying to hit as many courses as possible. I would say Heron bay is the best course I’ve visited so far, I played at 14 different courses to date. Fairways, greens are well kept. Cart girl available, challenging yet forgivable course and the price is a deal.

Overall the course was good. But two things needs improvement, tee boxes were hard on some of the holes. And greens needed to be in a better condition. Bunkers needs to be in a better conditions. Barely any sand in bunkers.

Visiting Atlanta for work for several months and a few of the locals mentioned Heron Bay as a coarse to play. I finally got out for a round and I have to say I was very pleased with Heron bay overall, pleasant staff, amazing coarse and pace of play. I consider that a great trifecta to have for a coarse.

The grass is well kept on the fairway and greens, all I can say is “it was like cutting butter with a warm knife”

I would definitely recommend playing a round at Heron bay, I will be back!

Continuing my exploration of what the South side of Atlanta has to offer in terms of golf, I had an enjoyable round at Heron Bay. The course is long and challenging (I had played the tips, which were 7,300 yards; players can modulate difficulty and length by moving forward). Course conditions were fine. I'd give it three and half stars. Tees were mostly good, fairways were lush and rough was reasonable. The greens were slow and soft which is what I'd expect at moderately priced course with bent grass greens in the heat of the summer (I struggle to understand why courses try to use bent grass with the heat in this part of the country - you have to leave it way longer than optimum or it will burn out in the summer). Having not played here before I got burned on a couple holes from ignorance, but look forward to getting my own back next time I play it.

Played this course a number of times. It's always in descent shape. Fairways were full, bunkers average. The greens were beat up more from over use but overall not bad.

Very nice condition, greens are bent grass and babies daily. The watering of the greens consistently helps them I’m sure. Very satisfied!!

The course is in good shape but the traps need a lot of work and the greens are stressing because they are bent.

Too wet underfoot. Hard to balance. Green’s were way too fast. Not sure why they cut them like that. The coarse is hard enough without having greens slick as ice. No fun for me today.

The clubhouse is clean with a well stocked pro shop and very friendly staff. Fairways were in great condition. The greens could use a little work. I am assuming they have had a lot of rain so the greens were extremely soft and it did not appear that people repair their divots. No rakes in the traps but that is common with the current pandemic. No kitchen or bar currently but I was told it should be back up and running soon. I will definitely be back to play soon.

Play this course often, course is in best shape I’ve ever seen. Left side green on #10 needs some repair but other than that, top notch. I wish it was still under the ClubCorp umbrella but hey, I’ll play it anyway!!!

The staff was friendly and accommodating except, Christie (I believe was who checked us in) forgot to give us the code for the restrooms out on the course. We had to call the pro-shop from the restroom, to gain access. The course looks great from the every tee box. Every hole is lush and dark green, with very few (if any) weeds. However, there's no sand in the carts to repair divots. So, I'm not sure how long the fairways will be as nice as they were this day. The first cut of rough still allows you to see/find any wayward shots. The bunkers have not done well with the rain the course has received. They're dense and seem to be mixed with red clay (not purposely, that's the consistency of the sand that's there). The greens were receptive and rolling great. Overall, this was a good value for the conditions we experienced. The only reason I didn't give this course higher marks was due to the few items I've mentioned. I would play this course again.

Coarse always in good condition. A good test for anyone's game. Clean and many smiles from the staff. Price is reasonable. Will always play there!

A weekday round at heron bay is exactly what golf should be like. Nice pace, friendly staff and a well maintained course!
