Palms at Marriott's Desert Springs Resort
About
Desert Springs Resort has a longstanding reputation as a luxury resort that offers something for everyone. There are two championship golf courses that sprawl across beautifully landscaped grounds covered with lush vegetation and sparkling lagoons, providing a scenic oasis amidst the desert surroundings. From nearly every hole at the resort, golfers can enjoy panoramic views of the Coachella Valley and Santa Rosa Mountains. Water is the most prominent feature of both golf courses. Between the two of them, over 35 acres of water features come into play. The Palms Course is the slightly more challenging layout of the two, but both are accessible to players of all skill levels. The layout features well guarded greens, thick rough and towering palm trees bordering the holes. It has a memorable finishing stretch that starts with an island par-3 on the 17th and finishes with a tricky dogleg par 4 with water all along the left side.

JW Marriott entry w/Palms decorated for Christmas Photo submitted by dpeagleton on 12/22/2012
a botched experience
i was paired as a single with an ultra beginner couple with no concept of golf etiquette. they were nice people, but it's not a fun way to play, with topped balls down the third base line being looked for for "hours" in the long grass and never advanced unless i suggested it. they dropped out after two holes. my tee-off time was delayed 15 minutes waiting for these people to show up, even though a 3-some went off ahead of me. even that 3-some spent more time standing around talking after they had hit and then slowly putting clubs back in the bag. marshalls would have made a big difference, but...covid...i understand. and i much prefer the valley course to the palm course. not a fun day.
Shame on you, Mariott
Played this course as part of a three day excursion to the Palm Springs area, which we do twice a year. What a mistake choosing this course! It's 115 degrees (no biggie to us; we're from Phoenix) and Mariott cannot even give us one bottle of water??!! No beverage cart; restrooms on the course closed; drinking fountains with hot water; and no ice anywhere. And don't blame Covid, Mariott. We also played Desert Willow and Indian Wells. Both courses had a beverage cart and ample ice and water on the course. Essentially, Mariott takes your money, points you to the first tee, and you're on your own from there. Multiple reviews complain about the same thing, but obviously Mariott does not care. Shame on you, Mariott!! We will not be back.
Had a Good Time, but Very Hot
It's a beautiful course on a challenging, but fair, layout. It would have been nice to have had a couple beverage carts out there, at least with cold water That's my only complaint. Overall it was a good time.
Desert Raider
should have told us no water was being sold or beer. Especially on a hot day .. They should open the little snack shop at the turn.. Could have been 5 stars
Playing in the heat!!
First placed was like a ghost town after 11
Pace of play was tough, foursome was driving all over the course.
But to there defense all the outlying grass even right up to the fairway was so long it was crazy lost plenty of balls that were definitely not out of the norm today in the tall grass.
Bring plenty of water course is hot.
And bring your long clubs you’ll need them.
I’d go back but not in a big rush. Plenty of other courses to visit first.
Great Course. at 110 degrees I was the only one out there,
In good condition
I played one month after the course was aerated, so I called before making the reservation to make sure the course was in good condition--and, it was in relatively good condition. The pace of play was slow, as one would expect from resort courses. It was hot, but not as hot as we expected due to the clouds. Yes, there are a few days in the summer when the desert is humid due to rain clouds. It was such a day.
I understand that COVID-19 causes disruption. But, to not have a food/drink cart on the course was, well, stupid. Or, at least they should make that clear to players before booking. Sure, we did bring water, drink, and snack, but we also expected to purchase things from the food/drink cart.
I was told that the course amenities will be available in a month or so. So, keep that in mind when you head out there.
Resort Course
Course was in pretty good shape. Greens were punched around a week ago. Despite some of the lingering bumps from that, they were the fastest greens I have played in the palm desert area. The course utilizes 7/8 minute tee times so my group waited on almost every hole, but as a threesome we still played in around 3.5 hours. This is a true resort course but I was impressed for given that it was under $50 for an early morning tee time
Great time!
Used to golf here years ago with my grandpa. Came back and it was still as great as I remembered. Everything is well taken care of. Good pace of play, great staff and a BEAUTIFUL course.
Hot day
Overall during the Covid new abnormal it was a good day. It was Sunday so pace of play was slow. Unfortunately never saw any rangers out trying to keep slower groups moving. Really enjoyed the course had not played here in over 25 years. Fair price on golf now will be back next time I m in the area.
All good service even water is unavailable
Course is in ok shape at best & the worst part is on a 110 degree day in Palm desert in August all service is closed. You literally can’t buy water on the course. They say use the water fountain. Um isn’t COVID happening & all water fountains are supposed to be closed ? Wouldn’t play here again.
Golf course condition
Except for the punched greens and lack of drinking water, I found the course to be in Good-great shape
Great Course
I wish I knew the greens were recently punched but overall, great course. Can’t wait to go back.
