Desert Falls Country Club
About
Can bunkers qualify as their own continent? Desert Falls Country Club in Palm Desert seems determined to find out.
This Ron Frehm design boasts bunkers so huge that they look like the inventor of the Big Gulp came up with them. And escape is anything but guaranteed. Sometimes getting out of one bunker, just means landing in another at Desert Falls.
That is just part of the reason this course totes a 145 slope rating - putting it among the five highest slope ratings in the entire Palms Springs area. Remember, this is the golf mecca with Pete Dye's Stadium Course, which was only designed to be "the toughest golf course in the world." Desert Falls is on that list.
There are five sets of tees to take away some of the bite. But the greens are still an obstacle of their own. These are undulating greens that are large enough to offer several varieties of challenges.
Just getting on the green is not enough at Desert Falls. It's important to land on the right part of the green. This is also a course with more hills than you expect to see in the desert.

Sad to say this course was in such bad shape , Grass was brown and looked like it was a very nice course just lack of maintenance.
The rough is pretty rough
This was the 2nd time I played this course. The first time was in August. I lost about 6 balls in the rough. I never had that issue before. I went again this past Saturday thinking that maybe the course was in better shape since it’s the season. I still lost a few balls. Not as much, but I think it was pretty ridiculous. It wasn’t the worst experience but I would prefer to play at other courses.
Fun course but lacks attention to detail
Unfortunately the day started out with an unreasonably rude proshop attendant, who was also apparently rude to the other gentleman in my group who booked through GolfNow.
I was thrown off when asked if I would like to purchase a small medium or large bucket of range balls which were off brand cheap-o’s. The range had thick artificial turf mats that were not necessarily ideal either.
From there I stayed optimistic and enjoyed their large chipping and putting greens which were very nice.
The course layout is great and the greens are very unique and fun to hit into as well as putt on. I don’t think I’ll return any time soon mostly because of that simple rude exchange, however I wish the club good luck and hope it becomes better in the future like I have heard it was in the past.
Nice course but proshop staff needs to work on their customer service
I’ve played this course for the last 15 years and they always seem to have very unfriendly (I’m using kind words) proshop staff. Not all but they always have one staff member that seems to gate his/her job. Very un-accommodating. This has been the case for the last 15 years. It’s a shame because the course is very nice and I enjoy playing it.
Unfriendly staff in Pro Shop
The dude in the pro shop is rude and should be released from his position! Other than that, we enjoyed our Desert Falls experience!
Eagle Falls
So actually, I believe this course is a great hidden gym to be honest. The value for the money is over the top. Definitely has its challenges, but I think there is some improvement needed as well. The greens need to be cared for better. There are divots everywhere that are on repaired. The green teen tend to be very firm. Lastly the staff the guys at front meeting. Everyone are less than friendly. You get the sense when you return that they’re really just looking for the tip and that is offensive. I’ve seen them stand there and watch people carry their clubs to the golf cart area And just watch. The office staff on the other hand is very affable and friendly. The outdoor staff really, really needs some instruction and assistance in their social skills and attitude. Hope this helps. It’s meant as constructive criticism.
Bad Shape
Sorry to say this course was in terrible shape. The grass was dormant, so it looked even worse but the overall condition was terrible. Greens were bumpy, not very manicured. It's name is Desert Falls but all of the lakes/waterfalls have no water. This place looks like it used to be a great course. The layout is great, but it almost looks like they are going out of business and just going through the motions now.
Heading in to over seed season. Place is closed in October much like the rest of coachella valley
Nice open course
I enjoyed playing in your nice open course. The directions for the next tee are just confusing. I have to drive a few times to the same paths to check if I’m on the next tee. But otherwise the condition of the course is fair.
This course is always very forgiving or punishing depending on your touch on that particular day. Always a mind fu!#
A lil beat up
Main lake is dry and some of the rough areas have dry grass. The greens are dried out and firm, but very bumpy due to the grass used.
Don’t play in the summer!
The conditions of the golf course was very poor, I understand that the fees are low to bring people in. However, the grass was very dried out and the pond was emptied. I’m assuming for maintenance. I’m sure if you cough in season it’s better.!
Course was rough. Greens punched 7 days earlier so you expect slower conditions. Greens are awful. Many are infested with crabgrass. Weeds. Haven’t played here in 2 years so I wasn’t aware of the neglect. The course is known for having hundreds of palm trees. Many are dead, dying.
Sad, it’s a great design.
Course not maintained well
Course conditions do not reflect the description and or images of the course. Unkept greens, fairways, and rough. Would not play this course again even if it was free. Overall course conditions and quality way below par.
Your comment is under Desert Falls. But you labeled it eagle falls. Two different places, your review is honest and forthcoming but where were you?
