Great course
Ever since the merge the course has been in great condition. Very fun course.
This course is in great shape
Course is in great shape and has the right mix of tough holes and gettable holes. Great course.
Course is great
Course staff is extremely friendly. The pace of play was solid with each of the players encountered being friendly and take care of the course. Would recommend this course to others.
Solid
Recently renovated, and the results are pretty good. I’ve seen some complaints about the bunkers, and they seem to have fixed that. Greens could be in better shape, but overall good condition. Staff are very friendly and environment is good. On the pricier side, but worth it.
What. A. Course.
Was skeptical at first cause of the course cause of its previous bad reviews, but boy was I impressed. The course itself was in beautiful condition and was shocked at how true it played. We went out on a Saturday afternoon as a foursome and the pace of play was utterly fantastic. I mean I can’t say enough about how amazing the experience was. Afterwards me and my foursome went into the bar and grill for some food. It was absolutely fantastic along with great service from the bartender Steve. I would recommend this course to anyone around when it is available to play because you will not be disappointed.
Well-Maintained and Fun to Play
The course is in much better condition since the merge of the West and East courses. The fast pace of play was one of the best parts of the whole experience. It’s a fun course layout, with the right balance of challenge to keep it interesting. The staff is great, and the warm-up area is top tier, including a driving range, chipping green, and putting green all in one spot. Even the carts are brand new. A lot has changed for the better. I’d definitely recommend Royce Brook.
New Home Course
I would play the public course a lot in the past. I was very happy to hear they were going fully public this year after the renovations. This course is in great shape and well maintained even with maintenance going on. I’ve been a regular at courses nearby, and after playing here a couple of times this year, this will become my group’s new weekly home. The 19th hole is fantastic, and food is incredible.
Top Public Course in NJ
Course is in great shape and good pace of play. Staff is friendly. Possibly best value in NJ for public golf courses.
Amazing Course
Course was in great shape! Staff were very friendly and couldn’t ask for a better day out there. Would highly recommend playing.
Your golf home
Royce Brook has been my golf home for a couple years now. Recently they went to 18 holes and turned public. They combined the two 18s and made just one course. After playing it a couple of times I was very quick to fall in love with the new layout. It was nice to be on both sides of the course in one round. I would recommend that you play. It is definitely a challenging course. From sloping greens, really soft and big bunkers (which are superb by the way) to thick fescue ready to penalize your bad shots. It is truly a links course. The holes of the east course are in great condition while it was still private. If you and your buddies are looking for a great golf course to go play I would recommend playing this, it test every part of your game, and when you guys are done the food in the restaurant is great. Go play and hopefully stay in the short grass. I would also recommend getting to know the staff. They truly know how to make a place feel like home. They all love golf, but more importantly want you to have a great time not just golfing but in general. Their slogan is your golf home, and everyone knows it’s not the place it’s the people and the employees always make it feel like Your golf home.
The New Royce Brook Layout
The new course layout is a lot more enjoyable to play as the new bunker having fresh sand and maintained well during rainy days. Royce brook has they greatest staff. Course is really open and the new golf carts are really comfy.
Pleasantly Surprised
Overall a great day. It rained a little on the back nine but didn’t dampen the experience. I love the layout and the greens were nice. The rough was a little thick so you had to keep an eye on your shots.
It’s Magic… Two great courses turned into one subpar track!
I showed up the other day looking forward to a round on the East course which I had played many times in the past and absolutely loved it. It had been just over two years since I had played there as I no longer live in the area. When I asked about the conditions of the East course, I was told that there are no longer two courses. They had sold some of the land to a developer and had consolidated the two into a single 18 hole track. The new front nine (which was the old back nine on the West course) was fine and generally played as it once did. The new back nine was a chopped up version of the front nine on the East course and some modified holes from the front nine on the West. It felt very disjointed and it was sad knowing some of the beautiful former holes had been completely removed. The course is so new that it has not yet been updated on any GPS apps and so they recommended downloading the “Royce Brook” app to provide yardages. The problem is that the app would only update yardages for a single hole and the next time I opened the app it always showed the full yardage for the hole regardless of where I was. In other words, it stopped working. I discovered that if I rebooted the app and started the round over in that, it would work again… But only for one more hole. This led to a number of shots where I had to just guess at the yardage which was completely unacceptable. At the very least, they need to update the yardage markers on all of the new holes. On the new 10th hole which is a par five, I knew I had 200+ yards for my second shot but I had no idea if that was 201 or 250. I looked for the nearest marker which was not far and it said 50 yards which is what it was to the center of the old green. This happened on a number of holes and made it both difficult and frustrating to play. What they really should do is put GPS on the carts which requires money that they should have after the sale of the land. While the conditions on the front nine were decent, the back nine still had seams where everything was resodded and again just felt very disjointed. If you had never played it before, you might see it as a reasonable track,, but coming from a place of knowing how incredible those two courses once were… I likely won’t be back. If you do go, make sure you have a good rangefinder!!
New format is a great challenge
I absolutely love what they did to the layout of the course. Presents authentic challenges that linx courses should. Firm and wide fairways that give way to narrow thick rough and tall fescue. You are penalized for missing the fairway as the greens are also firm, fast, with challenging gradients. Go here with an open mind and expect a great challenge. Can’t wait to play it again.
6+ hour round!!
Course was SO SLOW, pace of play was so bad would never play here again. 6+ hour round is unacceptable.
Roycebrook
The front nine is not in good condition, greens and bunkers were bad. Also construction and cut down trees in play.
Back nine was much better
Great layout and conditions
Layout and conditions were great! Construction around course made it a littl challanging. Downfall is the starter has to be more on top of pace of play. Pace was horrible, slow players inconsiderate
