Challenging and rewarding
Very fun course! Challenging at times but overall not to hard. My only gripe is the sand traps. The east course has a lot of sand traps with stagnant water. Some of them have turned into small ponds. Other than that very nice course.
Great course
Great course for all types of golfers. Bunkers were very wet but beautiful course overall. Would recommend.
Booked a 10:30 for the East Course. When I arrived they say there is a tournament on East Course and they can not get us out for about an hour. Then the starters advise that the privateWest course is available and you can play quickly , but , it will cost and additional $25 which the starter pocketed as it was not the course policy. So they did not honor my tee time and coerced an additional amout out of me. The sand traps around the greens have no sand whatsoever, except on 2 holes. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were nice. Would not return until they overall the bunkers.
Down hill slide
Our group plays this course every year and the condiditons have gradually have gone down hill. 10 years ago, this course was a resort-style course. One of the features of this course is the numerous bunkers around the fairways and the greens. The bunkers have little or no remaining sand and is down to the base clay. There was standing water in almost all the bunkers not allowing us to play out of the traps and forced to do a drop short of the bunker, which takes a lot of the fun out of the course. The greens are riddled with ball marks, but if your putt avoids them, it is a true roll. Stuggling to say that $65 for a cart is worth it.
Nice Public Course, - Private Course Feeling
My first time playing here. Even though the East course is public, which I played, and the West course is private, I still felt I was playing on a private course. It was a nice long course (almost 7000 yards).. I played on the back, championship, tees. I was still able to make 6 pars and birdie the 18th hole. I used a new GolfNow video tip the day before for hitting longer drives by bringing my driver back more and bending my side more to get better, fast and stronger whiplash to strike the ball with my driver. I thought the course was a nice links course. I felt it was a steal to play a full 18 hole round with electric cart for just $22. I would definitely play this course again if I got the same deal.
Nice Layout, Bad Conditions
The design of this course is great. The bunkers are a great design element to this course, however they were almost entirely rocky, unkept mud holes. Totally unusable. The greens and fairways were in solid shape. The Tee boxes could use some help. Most covered in a million divots. The cart paths were in terrible shape (don't really care about paths to be honest). No penalty markers anywhere. Seems like the place was totally mismanaged. Need someone to come in, clean house and take over, because the course was great and has a ton of potential. Don't pay more than $45 bucks to play here. Only worth it if you're playing weekday twilight.
What’s up with the bunkers?
The course itself is in decent condition other than the bunkers. There is no sand in the majority of them. They’re just dirt. I do appreciate the commitment of the grounds crew who raked the dirt. We had a rule where if we hit it in a bunker we dropped behind it because they were borderline unplayable. Greens and fairways were nice though. What’s the deal with the dirt, guys?
Bunkers are small ponds
This place has become a joke. I guess they make so much off the west course that they don’t care. Bunkers are all unplayable. Some of them have stagnant water in them. A good amount of fairways are chewed up. Tee boxes were in good shape for the most part and greens were true. For 65 bucks on a Wednesday they should be embarrassed. I Can play heron Glen which is 10 times better for 50 bucks. I’ll never be back unless I am very desperate
Lots of Bunkers (but no sand)
Course was in fair shape except for the bunkers. They had no sand. Just rocks and clay. A few bunkers were full of water.
No drinking water on the course or refreshment cart. It was 90 degrees the day I played. That’s just wrong.
Course Care
I have been playing Royce Brook for 20 years more or less. “Used” to be top notch. Last 3-5 years it has NOT been maintained. Admittedly, fairways and greens are mostly fine. Paths have not been maintained or repaired for a long time. The most egregious failure of neglect are the bunkers!! They are nicely placed and a challenge in and of themselves. But there has not been sand replacement or maintenance AT ALL!! 90% of them could not really be called “sand” traps, as hard dark brown dirt cannot be called sand. It is generally assumed that the property has been sold to developers and will either be sold for housing or combined with the West course or just disappear. So the lack of investment is not a surprise, it is just an insult to the memory of this facility and to those that know what it HAS been in the past … now, it is just that, a has been course … too bad too.
Very Disappointed
I have played the East Course multiple times over the years and was always impressed with the layout / hole variety and conditioning. At my recommendation I played today with 3 friends, tow of whom never played there before;
\
While the greens and fairways were in excellent condition, the bunkers were in horrible shape. There was absolutely no sand in most of them and many were filled with water, though it hadn't rained in two days. It sees that they have given up on providing a quality course - perhaps because much of it will be closing to make room for a housing development.
I won't be going back.
Bunkers lol
The layout of this course is great but to charge $95 for a course that has worse bunkers than most munis??!!
And why have rakes??!! Not with it guys sorry
