Nice round
Nice round at a nice, well maintained golf course. The cart path was in poor condition, but greens were nice and fairways were good/average. Nice layout and gfood pace of play.
Had a good time
Tee boxes and sand traps could use some work but a good time had by all.
It cost me $100+ including the service fee. Not worth that price
Much Improved
I played this course around the same time last season, and the course was a mess. There were weeds growing out of the fairways, the greens were chopped up and brutal, and the rough was warn down.
What a difference a year makes! The fairways were in excellent condition, the greens were firm, fast, and rolled true. They were as fast and true as any private course I've played. The rough was back. It had a few bad patches, but for the most part it was thick, lush, and punishing, as it should be.
The bunkers are still something of a problem. They're probably about 50% sand and 50% dirt at this point. It wasn't much of an issue though. I was able to get out of the bunkers without a problem (or at least no sand-induced problems...player error is another story haha).
Overall, I'll be back again this year, and I swore last year I'd never go back. Only reason I played it yesterday was for a tournament. But it appears they've turned it around.
Royce Brook 5/2/21
Had a 6:30am tee time, delayed until 6:40 and then proceeded to wait on every tee shot and approach shot, front 9 was playing at a 5 hr pace between 6:40 and 8:40am, not acceptable at that hour.
Improved on back 9 but damage was done by then, should be a 3 1/2 hour round with that tee time and carts.
Great place to play
Played here on 4/28. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens were all in great shape!! and its early in the year! Nice job by the keepers!! All the fescue/strawgrass was down, but when it finally grows in the course will kick up a notch in difficulty.
Pace of play was good. Never waited more than a few minutes. The employees we encountered through out the day from the cashier to the starter to the cart girls, were all professional and friendly. The only down side on the day was the bar/ restaurant. The facility, food, and servers were all great! There just wasnt enough of them to handle the amount of people. They were running around doing their best but were clearly under staffed.
Overall,, excellent place to spend the day and we will definately be going back.
In POOR Condition
The tee boxes are a mess
The greens are worse. Some of the greens actually have 18” wide HOLES In them fulle with sand. Others have tracks from some kind of vehicle apparently going across them and leaving tracks.
This used to be a BEAUTIFUL course and now it’s worse than most municipal courses. Sad.
Pretty good track
Played at 7:45 on a Monday morning. Course was not busy at all so pace of play was great. No problem getting around in 3 hours as a single. Greens were great. Rolled great and were fast. Other areas of the course could use a little work but overall a good place to play. I will go back.
rough timing
I had been planning to play on Tuesday, April 20th for a little over a week and was deciding on which course to play. I had always wanted to play Royce Brook as I had heard good things, it looked like a nice course and it was more on the pricier side than some of the other NJ courses in the area. There were a few other great courses available, but I had found a great price for a 4:10 tee time here thinking that I might be able to get in a full 18 since the sun is out almost until 8 now. Unfortunately that was not the case... Our 4:10 tee time was stuck behind the girls high school golf teams playing. By the time we tee'd off on the 3rd hole, it was already past 5 o clock. It was more than a 20 minute pace of play. No blame to the girls (I actually felt bad they had to play with an audience for the first few holes), but I would NOT have booked a tee time here had I known I was going to get stuck waiting on every hole. It was not very enjoyable for the first hour and a half. Eventually, the coach of the girls came to us and helped us skip to in front of the girls. We had to skip 4 holes just to get in front of them. We were able to finish the rest of the front 9 and all of the back 9, but that first hour and a half was very miserable.
Overall, I liked the course layout. I wish we had gotten to play all 18 and not miss 4 holes on the front 9. Not sure if I'll come back because of the first experience here. Seems like they have both girls and boys high school teams playing here often. I don't want that to happen to me again.
Will be great soon
Played 18 today. Tee boxes need some work. Fairways are good. Greens were good. Only 2 or 3 greens had visible damage that effected putts. Course played fast. In a month this course will be beautiful.
