Great course, fun and challenging
Course layout and overall in good condition. When we played the bunkers were not in great shape. That is the only complaint about the course.
Roycebrook East
Always enjoyable round playing Roycebrook. The course is challenging enough and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly.
Great Course, Poor Conditions
Overall East is a great course and I understand why it’s held in high regard in Central NJ, but the condition of the course was mediocre. It felt like a muni in a city at times... Half the tee boxes were beat up but you could always find a patch of green grass. The greens averaged about 50/100 unfixed divots and I found myself moving my lie several times so that I could get a clear path to the hole. Lastly, the bunkers weren’t bunkers, they were puddles or piles of mud. I think it rained heavy the night before so I’ll give them a break, but it is clear that during COVID they have focused almost exclusively on the private West course and the public East course has taken a hit.
It’s disappointing because the course is beautiful and has great potential but currently is not well maintained. I would go back, but not this year...
HORRIBLE condition
First off I’m not one to ever complain or write reviews. That being said from the pictures online I expected this course to be in great shape. The tee boxes were trashed, the fairways had burnt grass everywhere and chunks of grass all over the place from people not replacing their divots. Every single green was completely covered in unfixed ball marks. The entire course looked like it hadn’t been watered in weeks. Real shame because the course layout is actually beautiful.
Very disappointing
My wife and I played there today. Decent practice area to hit balls, chip and putt. Course condition for this time of year was bad. Tees boxes and fairways were burnt out. Rough was over grown and deep. Sand traps without say and muddy. Greens were full of un repaired ball marks and looked like they do in the fall from too much play. If the course was in great condition there is nothing special about it to bring us back. Its' off my list of course to play. Save your time and money and play elsewhere.
Beautiful course
The layout and course is beautiful. No trash cans on entire course, which I found unusual. Some areas burned out and a couple of tee boxes brown. Purchased a diet soda from the cart and was expired by over a year—tasted terrible. Still a terrific course and great time.
Great track
Course was very nice, challenging holes and greens were in good condition. Pace of play was too slow for 6:30 tee time. Before I started my round I read other reviews and they all complained about pace of play. Guess they don’t see a need to speed things along when they’re charging premium price but this is the Only reason why I lowered my star rating.
Poor conditions
In fairness there was a rainstorm the the evening before.
Every bunker was a mini lake. Drainage needs a major upgrade. Lost several balls in green side bunkers as they were not visible and the water too deep.
No starter at the 1st hole caused a bit of confusion amongst the 3 groups.
Pace of play slow ~ 4:45. A lot of waiting. No ranger or Marshall visible.
Fairways in decent condition considering, tee boxes not so. Greens ok.
Beverage cart availability excellent.
Have played this course many times and enjoy. Definitely not worth the $100 this round.
Don’t waist your money
4 hrs for 9 holes , seems like they just to put out as many as they can
Better of at county courses
Third time trying to play at Royce brook seems like it gets worse each time, almost 4hrs for 9 holes!!!!
Thirsty Thursday
Decent course. Fairways burned out and the bunkers could be better. Greens were pretty pretty smooth. Living in Pennsylvania is much better. Cheaper and better kept courses out in Pennsylvania
Haven’t been in a while but I’ll be back!
Thoroughly enjoyed the round!
Remembered the layout in pieces from not being there in a few years. Fun for a mid handicapper like me. Had to use almost all the clubs in the bag. Get your sand game ready if you are off line. Happy with the challenge. Only criticism is that players need to repair ball marks on greens. Not the golf club’s fault but the club has more green maintenance from the marks.
royce brook east....love playing here
always enjoy playing east...its a layout that really does fit my eye...have to hit the ball both ways to score here....i didnt have my fade working so needless to say to have one of my better days
My Go To Course
I always love playing here... The course is always in good shape and the staff can’t do enough for you. Even is this pandemic time RoyceBrook hasn’t missed a beat... Kudos to the Management... Don’t change a thing....
Hot Day At The Beach
The. Course was in great shape, and the design was fun & challenging. If you want to keep your score down, stay out of the many bunkers. The staff was very accommodating & friendly. I look forward to playing again!
