Huge Double Green Photo submitted by silkman111 on 11/11/2012
Not bad, but could have been better.
Heavy rain the day before, but still allowed carts on fairways... bad idea! Very wet in many fairways. Course had front nine closed for aeration, requiring you to play the back twice. They were still charging $77 on a weekday morning! No rangers anywhere and saw the cart girl only once in 4 hours and 20 minutes. I thought the course was much better when I played there 5 years ago.
Great Track Great Value !!
Played it twice last week while vacationing in NJ. Course was in great shape with generous fairways and putting greens had good speed to them.
Definitely good value in afternoon.
Highly recommend !!
Greens immaculate. Fairways need attention
Challenging course especially when the wind kicked up. Greens are true and in great shape. A lot of challenging hills on greens where pins were placed. Fairways were pretty beat up and could use some attention. Nice course to play if your staying in lbi
Very nice
Very nice facility, extra challenging to play the first time, shot location would be a huge help the second time around.
Good but could be better
It's a nice layout, fairways are cut tight and greens are fast but fair. But for a course that has many bunkers you would think they could maintain them. I don't mind spending close to a hundred bucks for a round of golf especially on a Sunday in the summer, and I have reasonable expectations. But for that kind of money I expect all elements of the course to be paid attention too. I had a good round going and will blame a bunker with a trench running through it from rain that was not raked and left my ball up against the sod in an unplayable position that lead to a double, I expect that for 50 bucks, not a hundred. I'd say 3.5 stars if it was an option.
Sea Oaks
Normally, this is an excellent course, depending on what rate you get. However, is was in terrible condition this day. The cups were not changed, water in bunkers and not raked, parts of fairways air rated and in bad condition. Some of the greens had disease too. No excuse for a Saturday to not do any maintenance prior to a busy weekend of play for these prices.
Couples Friendly Course
We're both mid-20 handicappers and found the course enjoyable and competitive. Mostly generous fairways. #16 is the killer. Greens, in particular, are like carpet. Lovely surroundings.
Average experience
Course was not in good shape. Took some rain in the morning. For the money I would play elsewhere. Does have some pretty cool holes.
Extra crispy
Fairways are really chewed up and burned out, but the greens are still OK. Pretty good layout, a little tricky in some spots your first time around. Fairways should be better in the fall.
Challenging course the offers many risk/reward options
Note, the playing time was greatly influenced by the need to keep carts on the cart paths only due to very heavy rains within the previous 48 hours. The crew did a very good job to get the course playable.
Beautiful layout !!
The tee boxes and greens are in great condition. Some of the fairways were/are damaged on a few holes. Limited damage, not enough to discourage play. Overall- the course has some challenging holes. It played fairly short from the white tees 6300 ish yards. The fairways tighten and sand traps are strategically placed to catch wayward shots. Would give 5 stars if fairways were plush and rocks removed from the sand traps. I would value round worth $60-$65.00 at this time.
nice course
I had trouble booking the tee time on line and had to call. May have been a server problem at the time. The web site showed tee time availabilty but some were not available on the phone.
Love the layout
Sea Oaks has a great layout and the hot deal I got from golfnow made it well worth the 35 minute drive to get there. It was a little more busy than I would have expected for a Tuesday mid afternoon round but the pace was still reasonable. The only reason I chose not to award a prisiine condition rating is through no oversight on the part of the grounds crew but rather on the golfers who choose not to fix their ball marks on the greens. All in all I enjoyed the round and would recommend Sea Oaks as a course to visit.
Coarse is a 4 star, throw in staff a 3 star.
Arrived and placed bag at the bag drop. There it stayed until I tracked someone down. I warmed up and proceeded to hole 1 with no starter. I was a single and a foresome was there to. My tee time was earlier and had to battle with them to go ahead. Point being no starter, big issues. The coarse is well worth the golf now price of 33 bucks. Will give the staff another try.
Sea Oaks
Love this course!
Put it on your list while visiting the Atlantic City, NJ area.
Play it if you're looking for a carnival challenge.
Highlight: Restaurant - food great, setting pretty and quiet, service good.
I'm a low handicap frequent player. This report is based on one warm sunny day experience.
The course is built in a wooded area. Remember to take your bug spray in summer. The course designer must have had a carnival game in mind. For golf courses in general, there are usually 5-7 obstacles (i.e. bends in the fairways, terrain variations, bunkers, trees, water and other hazards, etc.) designed into the layout here and there to challenge golfers in their attempts to make par or better. Here at Sea Oaks, several of those deterrents have been imposed on nearly every hole from tee to green -- many of them a surprise because they are out of view of the golfers from where they are hitting.
Don't expect a "perfect" hit from the tee or the fairway to yield good results. Almost every fairway is rife with moguls which kick the ball of the best planned and executed shot off into the woods, water, bunker, depression or awkward lie. There are bunkers behind bunkers behind bunkers. There are more holes with stategically-placed bunkers in the middle of the fairway than I have ever encountered. Hitting successfully around any of the obstacles is more luck than skill because of the angles of the fairway. A well-placed shot could (and often does) easily kick the ball into an undesired place.
The fairways suffer from the sun and a lot of un-repaired areas of wear and tear. The large greens are in pretty good shape. Though slow, they run smoothly. Most of my iron approach shots held close to their intended place (usually within 6 inches to 10 feet).
Sea Oaks is a course you would have to play many times to learn the most successful routes to the green. Even for the avid golfer, luck plays a bigger role on this course than on any other I have played. If you think you are good, this course will cut you down to size. I will say that my wife had a lot less trouble. Her average drive and fairway (low velocity shots) travel from 60 - 85 yards (usually straight). She had much less trouble finding a pathway through the gauntlet to the green.
If you are not one prone to throwing his clubs in frustration, you should try this course at least once. It will certainly prove to you that golf is a game you can never master. If you dominate the courses you regularly play, then you are ready for the Sea Oaks challenge.
Great layout, greens need lots of work though.
I loved the course itself, but the greens were really torn up. The quality of the grass was good, but there were so many unfixed divots and bumps in the green that it was very difficult to keep putts true. I lost 8 strokes because of a bump that pushed the putt off its line. They need to do something about that; otherwise, an excellent course with several real challenges, and a decent value at $50.
beautiful layout,
the course was a real challenge. It was a great layout and fair. The gold tees were pretty long but fair. Only problem was it had rained the previous evening and thus it was "cart path only" . With the heat it made it a very hot round. Would like to play it again. Very good value thanks to Golfnow.com
