Tale of 2 nines
Lakes 9 was beautiful and challenging while fairways was uninspiring and average.
Very Disappointing
most disappointed i've ever been in a course. total rip off for $140,. Great layout but course and greens are in terrible condition. Needs work
Just a little more love...
No complaints with layout and the piece of land is gorgeous. Lakes/meadows seems to be what they are offering these days which is a nice mix. Only real issues are tee boxes and fairways. Especially first to second cut to rough. You can hit great shots and show up to the ball with a very bad lie. Greens are great and roll nicely except for people not fixing their marks which has nothing do with management. Not sure troon wants to throw too much cash to this property, but if they did it could be special.
This course is a premier golf course. It is challenging. For an average golfer like myself it is worth playing centennial at least twice each season.
This course is just plain dangerous
I played the Lakes Course. The cart paths on 3 front nine holes are extremely dangerous and unfit for motorized travel. The course apparently think that putting up warning signs somehow insulates them from liability-t doesn't. There are some things so dangerous that no amount of warnings will transform a person's negligence into acceptable behavior with a few signs The public are not experts who have evaluated forensically the paths, their angle etc. The public relies upon you to look out for the safety of paying guests. Not only are the steep angles an unacceptable hazard , but these paths are slippery even when bone dry. Also, the paths are banked the wrong way, The sections I refer to need to be regraded and resurfaced -they are unsafe at any speed. The Lakes course is very difficult-at least the front nine in fact it may be unfairly difficult. On many holes you are surrounded by trouble and you need to be a long hitter to keep your score low. Fairways were in good shape as were the greens. Gas carts smelled of exhaust . Staff were very nice
Ehhh not great value
Decent course, but I just don’t see the value (weekend rate of $156). For the record I had a pretty good round (82), so this review isn’t about how I played.
Greens: inconsistent, a bit slow and many had a lot of ball marks. The ball didn’t roll great. To give it a rating id say a 3 out of 5
Bunkers: I know we’re in Covid times, but there shouldn’t be weeds growing in bunkers. That’s just lack of maintenance
Fairways were in good shape, tee boxes weren’t spectacular but not the worst, rough was pretty consistent.
I’d agree with other reviews, it’s a decent course, but is def showing signs of aging and could use some TLC. There are definitely better courses out there for your money.
Worth the drive from NYC
I booked at Centennial randomly based on the tee times available the night before the round. I could not have picked a better spot if I'd tried. The staff was friendly and grounds amazing. I didn't play my best golf but I had a blast. The only issue was the pace, we were behind a group that was playing slowly and therefore waited at some tee boxes. Typically I don't mind but the group behind us continued to hit into us and press at each hole, in the end that's bad golf karma for them. I will absolutely play Centennial again this season.
The course is very challenging. Long par 4's with a lot of hills. Water comes into play often. The fairways are moderately forgiving but the approach shots are not as forgiving. You have to be on your game to score well. Looking forward to coming back and playing.
Centennial Lake & Fairway Courses
Our foursome got to play both 9’s and found them to be a very challenging layout.
The fairways and tee boxes were in good shape-however the greens were slow.
The course is starting to show it’s age as the cart paths are in poor condition as are a number of stairs with rotting timbers etc.
Beautiful conditions.
Had to play cart path only, which anyone who knows the Centennial, knows that stinks. But, the course doesn't maintain it's beauty by them letting people drive all over the fairways if they're moist. If you don't like walking a lot, definitely call to check the cart path situation before going.
That aside, this is my favorite course to play within any reasonable driving distance of Carmel. Challenging holes are complimented nicely with easier holes, and some of the views are breathtaking. The Centennial is a must play for anyone who enjoys golf. It does cost a little more than your average golf course, but in exchange you get a course that is definitely more than average.
tough pin placement and some greens extremely tough.. course great shape would recommend. If $30 cheaper would play way more
Do not try to walk this course
Lakes is an excellent 9. Meadows and Fairways just meh. Best thing is that holes rarely run next to each other so you feel like you are all by yourself. But its a loooong way from green to the next tee on many holes so don't try to walk this course.
They treat you well here, and should, for $70.
I would play here a few times a year, but no more than that. Pick a nice fall foliage day for some pretty nice views.
What Happened to this Place
Course is starting to be a little ratty - especially the tee boxes. Also, the place was setup really short for a Saturday morning (2 par 5s were actually shorter than 450 yds from the whites.). This has always been a nice place to play but, for 100+ bucks on w weekend morning, the conditions need to be better.
Great Way to End the Summer
Course was in great condition. Greens were quick but fair once you got used to them. Staff was extremely friendly and on top of their game especially the woman who handled the carts and golf bags. Restaurant for dinner after round - friendly and quick service, plus the food was good!
