Awesome elevation changes
Greens weren't great due to areation but were playable. Played lakes/ meadows. Meadows has some gorgeous holes with great elevated tees.
A beautiful & changing course. Not for a high handicap golfer.
The restaurant was very good as was the service.
Slow play, aerated greens, and cart path only.
Booking the tee time the headline says aeration on Aug 7th. Normally you expect 12 days is enough time for a greens to grow in. Greens today looked liked they were punched no more than 3 days prior.
Talking about it with the first ranger I seen, he stated aeration started on the 7th. There were delays in the process and still didn't finished the entire facility. As a life long New Yorker, I really feel duped not seeing this coming. Next time I will call and ask specific questions. Boy did learn a lesson from this today.
I understand there was rain yesterday and keeping conditions on a course is priority. Anyone who every played Centennial knows this track is virtually unwalkable. To my knowledge, having a golf cart is a must and walking is not allowed. It's a mountain course with many elevation changes and many greens and tee boxes are not adjacent. Having cart path only on a slow pace hot humid day with recent aerated greens is a lot for anyone to take in at the same time. I myself walk many rounds but most golfers I play with I realize are not in the same shape as I am. I realize preserving conditions is important, at least meet in the middle with 90 degree or not riding out to fairways on days after rain. Paying to play a course run by Troon, people don't expect to deal with all these variables in the same round.
FYI all these variables happening in one round is rare. Any other day I played here I enjoyed this place very much due to the beautiful scenery and layout.
Nice layout; aerated greens
With the exception on the aerated greens, the course was in good condition with an interesting layout. However, the greens had been aerated a week earlier and despite assurances from the club, the greens were a disaster. I'd still return once the greens are back in shape
Great Course, Starter almost ruined the day
So we tee'd off and played 9 holes (my buddy and I booked a tee time, and were matched with another double). We played 9 holes without issue and then came around the bend to begin our next 9 holes. The starter told us that we were playing Fairways instead of Meadows... the double who was with us had bee very clear that they had signed up to play Meadows and not Fairways... so they were not pleased at all. They explained that they had specifically requested Meadows instead of Fairways, and I was actually behind them when they were checking in... and I can verify this. So the starter proceeded to argue with the two guys and tell them that they showed up late, etc. The 2 gentlemen told the Starter that they were not late, and had been asked to tee of slightly later to help with the pace of play, etc. They just made it very clear they did not like the Fairways course. So the Starter, inexplicably, split up our foursome for the day, and started us off on different courses. This meant that my friend and I were sandwiched in between two other foursomes, and the back nine was literally twice as long as the front. I thought the Starter handled it pretty horribly. He was a younger kid and not a veteran of the golf course. It definitely screwed up our flow, ruined the nice chemistry we had developed within our foursome, ruined the competition we had going for the day, and left a bitter taste in our mouths after playing a beautiful nine holes. Would go back for the same price, but definitely think that this situation should not have played out as it did, this course is too nice to have unprofessional starters.
Great experience
Got a great deal on the green fees, but would consider passing full price because of the experience. Tee times are separated perfectly, no one pushing, and we rarely saw the folks in front of us.
The course was in excellent condition, and all of the greens played similarly. There were fantastic views from most of the boxes.
Centenial
Great place to play, fairways are always in great shape and greens are true and fast. This course has everything, water hazards, challenging bunkers, great views, not to be missed.
One of the best course
My favorite course because it is always in an excellent shape and well cared for.
Finally Worth The Hefty Greens Fees
I have never seen the course in such good shape. The only caveat is the sand, which looks great on the surface but twice in the round when my club hit the sand, I disgorged a nylon webbing sitting two inches under the sand. That is why I gave 4 stars rather than 5 on Course Conditions.
Good value and fun to play
I played the Lakes and Meadows layout. Great weather. Course still wet from all the rain but in good shape. Nice variety of holes. Very playable from white tees and challenging for those who want to move back. Nice driving holes with elevation changes.
Great courses in great shape
Took advantage of a $50 weekday special they offered. Tees and fairways are excellent, greens used to be perfect years ago before they allowed the Poa anua to creep in. They are still very good although golfers need to fix their ball marks. They could use some cart path repairs in some spots. The spring rain and cool weather has allowed the rough to grow like crazy and they seem to be having a hard time keeping up with it. 4 inch rough was the norm most of the day and with no step cut a ball just a foot off the fairway can be in some heavy stuff. Most greens have multiple tiers so putting the ball in the wrong place can leave you with a very difficult putt. The three nines can cause an issue on your second 9 start if groups aren't on pace. In our case a group coming of Lakes got in between us and the group we were behind on Meadows causing a 10 minute delay. Very large driving range using both grass (weekends) and mats, a bucket of 35 balls is included in the greens fee. Multiple putting greens and a short game area. For what you get it is one of the top daily fee courses around.
always great
very beautiful layout. scoreable if you are playing well.... brutal if you are having a tough day. it's fair but tough. gorgeous hills and views. great greens and the course drains well. best practice facility in the tristate area
Centennial
Centennial is clearly a lotta fun with 3 different 9's to choose from lakes, fairways and meadows.
Course had just opened for the year the day before and we had a frost delay of an hour and also has taken on a lot of water so cart path only and muddy
Not bad shape for so early in the year in sure as it warms up it will be back
Centennial - Good service
We played on friday after thanksgiving as a 2 ball and the starter did a great job suggesting to play the fairways first nine. Fairways were a little softer after the rain and greens were fast and held well. Liked this nine and the beech trees. Played the Meadows after and is decent nine holes. We tend to find centennial more expensive but golf now rate at $45 was good value today but i see it is back to $85 for weekend. Putting green is big and they do include range balls which is additional value.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
Just a point of note, walking is permitted at centennial, and I walk it all the time. The many elevation changes at Centennial results in water flow after rain storms that requires cart path only.
