Great Course - Lousy Staff
Have played Centennial many times and the course is always in great shape. All three nines are awesome. Fairways is not as scenic as the other two. Not too hard tee to green but once you get near or on the greens it toughens up quite a bit. The biggest knock on this course is the staff. They all could use a lesson in customer service. Have had many bad experiences there. Last time we played nobody even acknowledged we were there and we ended up carrying our clubs and strapping on a cart ourselves. And the range is a joke, two separate prices depending on if you hit from a mat or the grass. (unless your playing then they give you a free bucket) For $100.00+ a round you'd think they would bend over backwards to make it a memorable experience all around. But we don't go there to make friends so go for the golf but look on-line first as there are always deals out there. Its not worth $100.00.
Hot Deal Bargain at $54
Exceptional value for $54 ($61 after taxes and fees). I could justify paying full price here at $100+, depending on the day. Price for greens fee includes bucket of range balls. The course offers scenic views and elevation changes. As a golfer who regularly plays 100-110, I found the challenging course to be enjoyable and suitable for all reasonable playing levels. The one downside was the slow greens on the lakes nine which were recently aerated. The fairways nine greens were very quick and the adjustment was brutal.
Lakes-Fairways
Lakes, which is my usual favorite, just had the greens aerated and it played like putting on a pegboard. With three-nine hole courses, it would make sense to shut down the one being punched for a week and let the greens recover before opening them up for play. Fairways was a blast, two pars and a birdie helped make it fun. The staff is fantastic, practice facilities are great and the 19th hole worth visiting every time out. A good round overall and I'll certainly be back.
gorgeous, must-play course
Thanks to a combination of threatening weather, and the good people at golf now, I was able to play Lakes/Meadows at Centennial for a mere $34. The cart ride itself was worth that, as this place is the king of elevation changes. The courses are magnificent. I can't wait to play "Fairways" as well. Course management is definitely the name of the game here, as there are bunkers galore, potentially nasty sidehill lies or rough for errant shots, etc. The course was in immaculate condition, service was great (free bucket of balls), and the pace was fantastic thanks to the threatening (but fortunately not delivering on the threat) weather. My only gripe is that there is a big jump from the whites, which play at 5800 to the blues which play at 6500+. My comfort zone is right in between there, so I chose the shorter layout, which was a bit on the easy side. Oh well. I'd go back in a heartbeat at that price though. FANTASTIC experience.
beautiful course sloooowww play
beautiful course sloooowww play ... That pretty much sums it up. A pain to walk or ride. Have to park cart too many times and walk to far without knowing distance. If u walk, some distances between holes are rediculously far apart. Beautiful views and course is kept n emaculate shape. Fast fast greens.. Slow play was a real downer. Teed off 440pm. Didn't finish 9 until 710pm . Didn't see a ranger to push pase of play..
Got lucky course emptied on back and played speed golf to finish at 826pm
Painfully slow
It took over 5 hours to play 18z we arrived and were paired with another twosome. There was a twosome ahead of us who were behind a foursome. We had to wait on every shot on the front and then when the twosome jumped that foursome we only hD to wait on every tee shot on the back. Saw a couple rangers on the course but they seemed to be of no help as we were keeping up with the group ahead of us. It was very frustrating to play 3 hours on the front and luckily enough it sped up on the back so it wasn't a 6 hour round.
Course was alright, received a lot of water lately so the course was soaked but there were a lot ball marks on the greens. Luckily we only paid the hot deal rate, I would never come back at the full price.
Satisfying Course
Took the Early bird special and it turned out to be a very satisfying round for all of us. The course is well designed and properly maintained. Most of the staff were friendly and well organized. Lastly, this is one of the more beautiful course I have seen around the NY & NJ area, and would love to go back again as long as they keep the early bird special rate. ^^
Good Value of an Interesting Layout
I typically play Centennial once a year and this time was my annual sojourn. The staff was friendly, from the bag drop where someone immediately took my clubs, loaded onto a golf cart and the cart was outside the prop shop before I walked out; to the pro shop where there were two people checking in golfers as there was a steady stream of folks checking in.
My fees included cart and range balls. The Centennial range is natural grass so it was a true warm up. The practice greens are large with many variations of lies for putting warm-up. The course is well laid out but you need a cart. The Lakes is hilly and both courses had significant green to tee distances. I saw the rangers at least three times to monitor pace of play which was good (we did not have to wait too much as we were a threesome).
My only area that I would like to see improvement is two-fold. Add either the GPS system to the carts or provide yardage books; and provide one towel per person. This would take this course to the next level of customer service.
Great course layout but pace and greens were not good.
Great layout and spectacular views off the tee. The course forces you to keep your driver in your back on some holes. The tee boxes were in good conditions. The greens were fast but not in the greatest conditions. If you can find a good deal to play a round, it is worth it but not worth it at its full price.
Delayed tee time & slow pace
My tee time was 20min delayed and it took 4 hour 50min to finish on Thursday.
The greens were not well maintained as used to be and they were bumpy.
Fairways were still good.
Men's bathroom was very dirty.
I like layouts of this course so hope they can improve in maintenance.
The green on Fairway need improve.
The lake is beautiful and condition is perfect. The fairway is good but the green must need more work .
birdman
As always the best golf course in the area driving range and pratice facilities are excellent. The staff couldnt be any nicer especially that hunk Matt.
Worth the ride
Some of the greens' undulations are borderline unfair -- you cannot avoid three putting. A great deal of elevation changes on all three nines. Excellent practice facility: grass tees on the range and terrific short game practice area.
Beautiful Views!
This is a good golf course to play if you do not mind driving a little over an hour from New York City. The course is in good shape. This course has one of the most beatiful views from some of the tees.
outstanding
Had heard this was a nice course - drove an hour and a half to get there - was not disappointed - course was in excellent condition - greens were beautiful - very true - staff was attentive and friendly - what a challenge - really great views from the elevated tee boxes
Overpriced average golf course
I had read and heard many good things about this course. However, the only thing that didn't disappoint was the practice facility. Everything else was very mediocre. When you consider the green fee is $135, it isn't worth half that. Unless you can find a deal for about $25, stay away. Any municipal course is just as good. The conditions were horrible. Tee boxes and fairways were a joke and the greens were slow and bumpy. Maybe in July this course is in decent shape. Avoid this course, you will be disappointed.
this course has it all...
27 amazing holes, a great driving range and short game area and friendly staff w reasonable prices.
Country Club Qualities
This course offers memberships and is open to the public. It is very well maintained and the greens fees reflect that. I certainly recommend this course to all golfers even if you have to save a bit to play.
The staff is professional and very friendly. Though I played late in the season (11/10/13), the conditions were very good. I considered this the finest course outside of private country clubs that can be played in the lower Hudson Valley.
Play was very slow. 5+ hours. Course was in great shape- nice views.
Will play again. Hopefully play will not be as slow..
Beautiful course and scenery
Very nice course from the tee to the green, beautiful view, excellent practice facilities, good food. I had a great time.
