Tucked away in the Ramapo Mountains on a perch overlooking the Hudson, Patriot Hills Golf Club in Stony Point feels far but it’s conveniently only an hour’s drive from the city. The golf course tumbles across dramatically rolling hills, providing views that span the Hudson Valley. Don’t let the 6,485 yards on the scorecard fool you, the daunting elevation changes make the course feel much longer. Walkers should be forewarned that this mountainous golf course is nearly impossible on foot. You can expect a few approaches to uphill greens but more often you’ll be faced with intimidating shots from elevated tees, which loom more than 200 feet above the severely contoured fairways below. The Patriot Hills layout is a formidable test but players of any skill level can appreciate the meticulous care that went into crafting each hole.

A little rough around the edges
I've seen this course in better shape. Not that it was in bad shape. It wasn't. The fairways were fantastic. Rough was full and thick. Greens were in decent shape, but not great. Golfers really need to fix their pitch marks. This is no fault of the course, but instead the fault of lazy golfers. I was fixing 2-3 pitch marks on every green and could've easily fixed more if I wanted to make it my mission to fix them all. People c’mon, fix your pitch marks… or at least fix one pitch mark when you get to the green even if it’s not yours. Tee boxes weren't as great as I've seen them in the past, but were fine for the most part. The part of the course that really needs work though, are the bunkers. In the past, I've seen them with nice crisp edges. But they are starting to get a little scraggly. I would normally give the conditions of this course either 4 or 5 stars, but with certain parts of the course not kept up very well, I'm dropping that to 3 stars. If I could rate in halves, I'd say the course conditions were 3.5, but that's not an option on GolfPass. I'd still recommend the course to anyone and will continue to come here because I love the track. But I think I’ll aim for the later/cheaper tee times since I don’t see this as a $120 course at the moment. Hopefully as the season progresses, things like the messy bunkers will be cleaned up and get taken care of a little better.
Pace of play has been excellent the past couple of seasons and yesterday was no different. We didn’t run into another group until the 17th hole. On top of that, nobody was riding our butts.

Good conditions, Bunkers Need Fixing
Other than the bunkers being an absolute mess, the course was in good shape and pace of play was good

Everything you want from a muni
You won’t find many courses with 18 views like this. For any who have not played this course it is a must. Touch and go in pace of play but if you get out before 9:30 most those regulars value pace of play. Last round had a 9:18 am tee time and we were done in under 4:15. Greens were in great condition. Tee boxes are a plenty and always flat and with grass. Elevation is no joke either. Never played a course with more elevation. Have fun with this super muni!

Great Hilly Layout - Target Golf
par 3s a let down, otherwise incredible layout extreme elevation changes. Fairways in great shape but greens haven't filled in from aeration (I was told 3 weeks ago)
