Patriot Hills Golf Club
About
Tucked away in the Ramapo Mountains on a perch overlooking the Hudson, Patriot Hills Golf Club in Stony Point feels far but it’s conveniently only an hour’s drive from the city. The golf course tumbles across dramatically rolling hills, providing views that span the Hudson Valley. Don’t let the 6,485 yards on the scorecard fool you, the daunting elevation changes make the course feel much longer. Walkers should be forewarned that this mountainous golf course is nearly impossible on foot. You can expect a few approaches to uphill greens but more often you’ll be faced with intimidating shots from elevated tees, which loom more than 200 feet above the severely contoured fairways below. The Patriot Hills layout is a formidable test but players of any skill level can appreciate the meticulous care that went into crafting each hole.

Patriot Hills is a must course.
Wow what a great course to play. The elevation tee shots are so challenging and require a precise hit to find the fairways. In one of the holes you needed to hit 200+ yards to be in the safe area of the fairway. I only found one green that was beat up but the rest were in very good condition. All tee boxes and fairways also in great condition. I do recommend this course it is a great layout.
Great course for the value!
Played here on a cloudy Friday afternoon before a long weekend, so course was mostly empty. Greens were well-maintained and speedy despite recent rain. Holes with tee shots downhill offered spectacular views. Staff was friendly and allowed us to start earlier than our scheduled tee time. Would play again, especially given the great deal on GolfNow.
Note: Riding is mandatory at this course for good reason - there are severe elevation changes throughout.
Beautiful views
First time for me and my 4some, we loved it. We booked through Golfnow for $90. Not cheap but worth every penny. Elevated Tees and greens, not too difficult if you can avoid the fairway pot bunkers. One of the nicest courses I've played in the NY area.
I will be back
A hidden gem i was really surprised it was very fun hitting off elevated Tees greens were fast and tricky since the course was in the mountains i had a great time i look forward to playing again
Great course if you dont mind all the elevation!!
I play here few times a month and love this course.
You will be making quite a few tee shots from elevated tee
and secondary shots on to the elevated green.
Course it self has pretty fast greens (Stimp rating of 8 or 9)
most of the time fair way is in pristine condition but some greens are slightly beat up due to ignorance of some golfers. Problem which all public courses face.
Definitely a course you should try out if you are a decent golfer.
I do not recommend for beginners.
Patriot hills offers mountains of enjoyment
Patriot Hills has been a long time favorite Tucked just 40 some odd miles from New York City , in Rockland Co. Great views from tee to green. From the vistas of the Palisades to the gallery of wildlife who follow your progress. Challenging drives from the back tee to the front tees . On some holes elevated tees feels like hitting off a 5 story building .
Pristine conditions , nice quick rolling greens a gem.. Wonderful staff from the bag drop to the club house, a fabulous golf course...
Can't wait to play it again !!
Course is in excellent condition.
This was our first time at Patriot Hills, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The course is in excellent shape. Many holes have high elevated tees and lots of bunkers.Greens were very fast.
Front Loaded, Fun and Well Kept
This was one of the most fun golf rounds I've had this year. The first thirteen or fourteen holes are among the most beautiful I've played, but the last five or six are fairly ordinary, which wouldn't be bad if it weren't for the creepy haunted sanitoriums that dot the front part of the property (actually its an old Cornell cooperative complex, but theyre all boarded up and creepy). We are at the end of the year so the tee boxes might have been just a little chewed up, but absolutely within bounds for this time of the season. Greens had been aerated a week prior, they were really fast and rolled true. We played as a threesome, didn't wait on any shots, pace was excellent, just an all around really pleasant day (my +13 over the last six holes can't be blamed on the course, that's just me playing badly). At $50 for the round and the cart, definitely worth the hour plus drive from Jersey.
Bit of advice: there's a par four on the front, the sixth hole, where you will think you can drive the green (from the blues, we played). You can't. Save yourself the stroke, play short of the trap and leave yourself the wedge shot. Both guys I played with tried to drive the green, lost three balls between them.
O.K.
Nice layout with great views and nice variety of holes. Unfortunately conditions were bleak and the course was beat up. Greens while aerated 3 weeks ago hadn't really come back, Fairway's recently aerated were dust. Great course for Stony-Point residents but not so much for non resident's who have to shell out, I expected better for what was paid. Can't say if I'd go back, would have to be a great price through Golf-Now.
Beautiful, challenging elevation course.
Beautiful view, Steep hills, you have to keep the ball on the fairway. I love difficult courses, the more difficult the better, you have to pick a spot to land the ball, good shots can roll off the fairway easily, this course need more water play. The staff was very, very nice. The practice range and putting greens were beautiful and you, yes you will need to use it before your round. If you shoot 90 and up, bring plenty of balls and don't waste time looking for it, just drop, take a penalty and continue play, however, you will have a good time and enjoy the views. good luck!
it's all about the scenery at patriot hills...
I would place Patriot Hills in the same pile as nearby tracks Hudson Hills and New York CC - and label the stack, "not enough". As a native Floridian turned Manhattan golfer, I'm twisted in the weekly grind that is playing a trusty circuit of no-frills city courses (Dyker, Pelham, Split Rock). And it seems as though every time I venture out of my stale comfort zone of NYC munis looking for frills - I'm often disappointed. And most often said disappointment goes hand-in-hand with traveling north to play a buzzed-about high-scale public "gem"... that's more like paying $100+ for a cart path carnival ride and not much else. Today Patriot Hills was in 'just fair' condition. Most tee-boxes were quite chewed. Some were a joke. But thank Yeezus (%80 of) the greens were a pleasure and rolling nicely. The fairways are toast - dusty and pale. I enjoy an elevated tee-shot like the next guy, but at "first play" so many holes at Patriot Hills give you that, "heck if I know where it's going but here goes" feeling. The strongest holes are the lovely collection of par 3s. Each interesting in presentation and sparkling with shot value, #9 was my favorite hole on the course - an amazing view of the Hudson River summed-up perfectly by a playing partner, "...this hole makes me feel like I'm on vacation." And yet after all the twists and turns of a round at Patriot Hills, the lasting impression will be an unfortunate sour one - after paying $100 (which was the "bargain Golf Now" rate, as it was quickly pointed out in the pro-shop) why was there not at least a pimply high school kid at the finish line to clean my clubs, ask "how was it out there, fellas?", and collect a few bucks? The staff at Patriot Hills are perfectly friendly yet non-existent - the course is perfectly OK but not in the shape it needs to be - the layout is fun and interesting but the views will be all I remember.
Varied layout allows for options off tee. Interesting and challenging.
Greens were aerated the week before I played, so putting was frustrating. But the greens fees were adjusted accordingly, so good for them. Could be some clearer yardage poles. On one hole it couldn't be seen from the tee, so one couldn't decide which club to hit to avoid bunkers. Cart path only on some holes led to long walks with lots of clubs.
this course has great views and nice layout
I found the course to be challenging and the greens receptive. The punched greens made the putting difficult but others I played with said they were fair.
Breathtaking
One of the finest courses I've played in the Tri state area. Incredible vistas. Well maintained. Beautiful layout. An absolute must.
Great Hudson Valley course
Patriot Hills is a fantastic, scenic and challenging course. On the weekends, the course is pricey, but you pay for what you get. The views of the Hudson River and the changes in elevation are beautiful. The course itself is very challenging, with lots of elevated greens, bunkers, and changes in elevation from tee to green. The greens are also slick and tricky, too. Overall, this course is really enjoyable. The greens could use a little work, since there were a lot of ball markts and scuffs. Could have been because they were scheduled to aerate the greens the following day.
Mountainous course
First time playing here. There are vast elevation changes. Beautiful views of the Hudson River and NYC.
On most holes, you can only see the hole you are playing, so you better hit it straight. Long drives (cart) between holes; you go up the mountain, down and back up. I don't believe you could walk this course, it would take you 6 hours to play.
The greens were pretty fast, fairways cut real low. The rough can be penal.
Beautiful views, beautiful course
This is a beautiful course that warrants play. The course features elevate tees to fairways below, very challenging.
The staff is friendly, there is a wonderful lunch and bar.
The course needs some help maintaining the greens as there are too numerous un-repaired ball marks, the golfer playing here needs to take some responsibility and repair their ball marks plus 1 more. The same can be said for the divots in the fairway, players need to replace their divots. The carts could use some divot fill for the fairways, this would also help. Also, the pace of play on Monday afternoon was too slow, players need to play the proper tees and move the play along, 5 hours was too long for an afternoon tee time.
Otherwise, this is a very enjoyable, challenging course, nice layout, beautiful scenery. Go play!
Great mountain track with stellar views
Great mountain course layout. Slightly short from the tips (approx 6400 yds) especially since most tee shots are severely elevated but emphasis is definitely on accuracy. Doesn't feel too short though since they do mix in some long par 4s and par 5s. They keep the par 3 relatively short average around 150 (only 1 200 yd par 3 if i remember).
Fairways were perfect and the bunkers were nice, but the greens could use some infill. They were really quick but looked to be beat up and had many visible ball marks, scarring in some spots. Otherwise, conditions were really good.
Nice course......enjoyable
The course itself is nice. Alot of up and down. Slightly challenging greens. But the staff and rangers are very unfriendly. Made us feel very uneasy. We finished 18 holes in 4 hours but all the while they were rushing us...Just because there was'nt a team in front. Kept telling us to move it up??? How much faster could we play? Our enjoyable outing was ruined by the poor service.
