Patriot Hills Golf Club
About
Tucked away in the Ramapo Mountains on a perch overlooking the Hudson, Patriot Hills Golf Club in Stony Point feels far but it’s conveniently only an hour’s drive from the city. The golf course tumbles across dramatically rolling hills, providing views that span the Hudson Valley. Don’t let the 6,485 yards on the scorecard fool you, the daunting elevation changes make the course feel much longer. Walkers should be forewarned that this mountainous golf course is nearly impossible on foot. You can expect a few approaches to uphill greens but more often you’ll be faced with intimidating shots from elevated tees, which loom more than 200 feet above the severely contoured fairways below. The Patriot Hills layout is a formidable test but players of any skill level can appreciate the meticulous care that went into crafting each hole.

Great corse
Beautiful layout with views, hilly, and challenging but reasonable course. Many holes took hard decisions to attack, balls rolled well on the greens. Quite slow due to weekend, but ranger worked hard to keep players in pace.
Great course
My favorite course in the area. Kind of expensive during peak times but definitely a fun course to play. Public Westchester County courses don't even come close.
near death experience
The group after us drove off while we were still at 160 yard out, tee box was elevated high up, the man shot high up and was coming straight down toward my head.. heard loud BANG literally 2 ft on ground from my feet. My friend went so loud the entire course heard "YOOOOU ALMOST KILLED HEERRRRR !!!!"
.........
Other than this scary experience, we all still luv this layout.
Very hilly course, very few flat holes.
This is course is in great shape. It is not certainly for beginners as it requires more accuracy to avoid OBs and red stakes on almost every hole.
Great course with a great deal from golf now.
Course was in great shape with the exception being the bunkers ( and there is a lot of them)!. Most holes are steeply down hill, providing gorgeous views of the Hudson river. Feels and smells like a country club and we were greeting very warmly. Ranger was super friendly and made sure everyone moved along. We were a foursome with a twosome behind us, he made sure we felt like we weren't being rushed (with one of the guys being really new to golf it meant a lot). The views alone are worth the admission especially for the money. So many deer and beavers everywhere that they are used to golfers they just kind of stand there and look at you. Bottom line, if you tend to play NYC courses and you drive a vehicle, its a must play and a welcome refreshment from the madness of the city life.
Beautiful course
Beautiful course, hilly. It had rained so it was cart path only and we still played in under 4 hours. Course is in great condition. Staff was friendly and helpful. No water but lots of sand.
Decent track with a few negatives
Played in the afternoon and paid $70 for 18. Wouldn't recommend paying more than that. Layout of the course is pretty nice being in the hills, which provides some unique challenges and doesn't feel like you're playing the same hole over and over.
The big negative was that we played on a Saturday afternoon, so we were waiting to hit on basically every tee. We expected this, so we weren't too annoyed until the ranger chose the 2 holes where groups get stretched out a bit to yell at us for "being 30 minutes behind", citing the fact that we hadn't waited on THAT tee as to why we were at fault. When we told him we had waited on literally every other tee, he basically tried to say we were lying. Great people skills!
The only negative as far as the course itself goes was the fact that it doesn't seem like people who play there know the etiquette of ball mark repair. Every green was pock marked with ball marks new and old. Not much the grounds crew can do about that, but an observation still.
you need patience
beautiful course, well maintained, but
fairly short, not very challenging, and painfully slow. the rangers were of little help when 2 different foursomes spent more time searching for balls then actually playing.
Magnificent course
Was a fantastic day from the moment we arrived...course itself is gorgeous...traps were in very bad shape...most of them...rest of course just gorgeous. Staff was welcoming, professional and accommodating...couldn't ask for more. Except the traps which is ok for me because I am bad from the sand and I got free lifts:). Thanks Golf NOw.
great day
the course is in great shape. there are a lot of traps- but many holes are very wide. ranger went around often. it was tuesday and still took us over 4 hours.
only one bathroom at the turn around-ladies be aware of this. i played really well so what coudl be better.
Unbelievable Views
This was our first time playing here. Visiting from Long Island. While I'm a beginner, my husband is an intermediate player who plays several times a week and he loved this course. Great elevations, scenic views, deer, gophers everywhere . Pace of play was good and holes challenging, some more than others. Very friendly staff. All around a great day of golf, will definitely return
Great course
This course is outstanding! Very scenic. In great shape to be mid-season. Very challenging for mid handicappers.
Great Views from Tees!
This is a good golf course to play. It has a good layout with great views from most of the tees. The course is in good shape.
Challenging Beautiful Course in Rockland
In the hills overlooking the Hudson Valley lies this well maintained challenging course. Subtle breaks make the moderately fast greens challenging as well.
Its on the pricey side but compared to the other courses in the area, this one is the best.
Excellent Staff
Course was in good shape considering we had received a lot of rain in the days before. In addition, the staff was very accommodating and friendly. I would highly recommend playing this course, especially for city folk.
nice views - very nice course
Lived in the area for a long time and never played here until today.
Course was in good shape and pace of play was decent for a holiday weekend. Saw the ranger multiple times.
Negatives - for some reason even though the course was dry they were cart path only for the day which slowed the pace slightly.
Outside of seeing the ranger - the cart boys were no where to be found - dropped my clubs off, went to the proshop and paid came back out loaded my bags onto a cart waited and then finally someone came over to direct us.
Outside of the staff issues really enjoyed the course and will return. Course has many level changes but was fair and not many blind shots.
Greens were in very good shape but were not as fast as they could have been.
Good Course with interesting holes
Lots of elevation change and raised tee boxes. Beautiful views and course is in very good condition.
Great Value
I live in the city and getting to this course by car could not be easier. Straight up the Palisades in 45 minutes. Beautiful setting with many very very elevated tee boxes. Fairways are never very tight so grip it and rip it. Greens are often well protected with bunkers but good course management should keep them out of play. A few long par fours. The only con would be that the par threes seem very similar. No water hazards to speak of on the course and homes surrounding the course are never really visible. Greens seemed slow but in very good condition. Carts all electric but had no problem handling the very hilly terrain. (I used the same cart for 36 holes and had plenty of power left.) Driving range is about 280 yards deep. Hit off of matts and 45 balls for 5$.
I can't rate the food in the club house. Didn't order anything, but the grill look inviting. There is a food shack at the end of 9 holes, but selection is limited to hot dogs and pre-made sandwiches. Lots of deer, groundhogs, and wild turkey on the course. No water, so no dirty geese!!!
The staff was very helpful and play was fast that day. 36 holes in 7.5 hours.
All in all, a wonderful course for the value.
First timer. Worth the money
Being fairly close to NYC I was a bit worried that this course would end up being either too crowded or not nice enough to justify the $120 green fee. I was wrong.
Great layout, LOTS of big elevation changes which makes club selection fun/challenging. The greens were slow but it had rained earlier in the week.
The par 3's were fairly straightforward but otherwise it was a great round, especially for being less than 40 min from NYC.
