Raven's Claw Golf Club

About
Located in Limerick Township, Raven's Claw Golf Club is one of southeastern Pennsylvania's best golf and residential communities. It consistently ranks as one of the state's top 10. Carved from rolling hills and mature woodlands, the layout features a variety of different holes. No two holes are alike but they require some creative shot-making abilities. With tight fairways and undulating greens bordered by mounds of rough, the golf course also demands accuracy. The design incorporates links-style elements that present a formidable test. The golf course is undoubtedly challenging but there are also recovery opportunities on each hole, which makes it less daunting for beginners. One of Raven's Claw Golf Club's most memorable holes is the tricky penultimate hole. This unforgiving par-3 has a double-tiered, undulating green with no bailout areas to the left or right. Golfers that hit it short will face a blind second shot.

Great Bang For Your Buck
Had always heard about Raven's Claw but never got around to playing it. I came across a hot deal the other day and had to take it. What a treat! This course is in great condition. 99% of the leaves have been blown off the course and greens. Fairways, greens and bunkers were in great shape. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. My only gripe is that you don't get a chance to stop at the clubhouse between the 9th and 10th holes. If you need food or drinks either bring them with you or buy them at the clubhouse before you tee off. Also, I didn't try the food or bar, so I can't give a fair rating on that.
Great Course. Definitely give it a try.
Nice course, good condition
Course was in very good condition, had heavy rain prior day, cart path only. Gusty winds made curse play longer than usual this day. Greens rolled nice and held iron shots as expected. Cart paths were not paved and terrible with ruts and holes filled with water.
Bunkers were unmaintained, solid hard sand or mud, maybe from previous rain. Would not pay full price to golf here, worth golfing with golf not hot deals once a year.
Great course, needing some care
Most of the holes are challenging and fun to play. Course has not been very well maintained otherwise it will be much more desirable
well kept
Its a overall great place. The proximity of the houses and noise from residents can be a little annoying but its a great course
Excellent Course
My wife and I have played 92 different courses in the past three years, and Raven's Claw is in the top ten on our list. We were lucky that on a spectacular Sunday afternoon, we still finished our round in under 4 hours. We drove 90 minutes to get to the course, and we will definitely do it again.
The course was in excellent condition and each hole presented very different shot choices and challenges. It is a course where "good thought" is as important as :good shot".
Great course, friendly staff
We have been wanting to play Raven's Claw all summer. When we saw a tee time with an exceptional price that meet our needs, we jumped. It was challenging for both an intermediate golfer as well as a beginner. We are definitely going back!
Overall great experience
The course was in great condition. The layout was challenging, but fair. The staff were all very friendly and professional. It was overall a great golf experience.
Decent Course for the Price
Course offered me a Military Discount which is always appreciated. Luckily I was paired up with 2 gentlemen who had played the course before. There were a few blind shots that aren't well defined by looking at the scorecard. Course was in excellent shape and I enjoyed playing it. I would definitely play there again.
Nothing special to see here
so I'll start with the positives: the staff was super friendly and welcoming. The pro shop, grille, restrooms, all receive high ranks from me. The practice facility is pretty handy too with a decent putting surface and driving range close by as well. Scenery, beautiful... honestly, if you don't mind looking at the nuclear plant off in the distance (no sarcasm intended but unavoidable I suppose) But once I got on the golf course... things began to take a dive.
Fist, the cart... nothing special, standard budget issue golf cart. not bad condition, but I've seen better at places that are far cheaper.
2nd, the cart paths... horrible. It was a washboard surface for 90% of the track... Which was only made worse by the fact that it was a cart path only day.
3rd. The greens... horrible. among the worst I've seen, and I'm from philly... I've seen some crummy greens. The cut of the greens wasn't that bad, putts rolled fast and "true" when they weren't being knocked off course by the many, (and I mean many) unattended ball marks. Imagine a putting surface with acne... something like that. A few greens had these really weird, green, moldy looking patches in them. Never seen that before.
4th. The rough was really rough... looked like it had not been cut in a long time. The fairways were "ok"... but not much more than "ok". I saw a lot of crabgrass out there. The sandtraps were a mix of sand in some spots and clay in others...
5th. Layout - this is entirely a preference thing for me, but I didn't like the layout. It was an end-to-end setup so darn near every hole had out-of-bounds on both sides. I had a particularly bad driving day, which cost me a few balls. I prefer a more forgiving layout, where if you hook a driver, you can at least hope to find your ball in a lightly wooded area and pitch out. Not here though, it was danger on all sides... lol, don't miss left, right, or long.
6th. Tee boxes - not so bad really, there were a couple that had steep inclines, which gives me fits trying to shift my weight forward. But like the rest of the course, the tee boxes were not that well maintained. grassy, messy looking, large chunks of earth missing everywhere.
I suppose in hindsight, the condition of the course was probably more a reflection of the golfers who frequent there than the staff. It looked like hacker's paradise on the fairways. you could look up on any given hole and see chunks of fairway sprayed everywhere, huge divots everywhere, ball marks everywhere. I'm guessing the course probably looks a lot nicer in early spring than it does in late summer. Either way, I won't be making a return trip. If I lived closer (like next door) I would only use the practice facilities. They would need to drop to a more realistic price range for me to consider a 2nd round.
portrayed as a high end course
second time i played this course. And compared to the last time I played. this coure has gone down hill.....
This couse has great personality
A fun and challenging play in a peaceful setting. The course is very well maintained. Employees create a friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend.
Poorly maintained cart paths
The cart paths on this course are horrible. It is very uncomfortable to drive. Due to the significant hills this is not an easy course to get around. Therefore it can be a struggle and some may find this not enjoyable. The overall condition of playable course is acceptable but the condition has clearly deteriorated from a couple of years ago. Not sure if this is due to play or lack of staff care. This is a course to play once a year just for something different but not an everyday course.
Not real well maintained
I played this course the day after thunder storms. The cart paths were awful. They were not well maintained and as a result they were like riding the Baha. They were full if muddy water pools which made getting out of the possible many times impossible. My bag looked like it had gone to war from all the mud.
Although other courses in the area were not cart restricted, this course was restricted to the awful paths only. This wS never told until we were teeing off and not when we paid. If I had known, I would not have played.
Not a good experience at all.
course in good shape
I like the course a lot very challenging only downside was some fairways were getting aerated greens are tricky golf staff were very nice will visit again
Paid $50 to ride, priced right.
The fairways were nice, greens were arerated, some tee boxes were chewed-up, and some crabgrass around the geens.
Not recommended for travelers
We played when visiting the area from IN and got rained out on 10th tee when storm moved through. Pro shop refused 50% refund and stated their system would not allow them to put through a credit which we found very hard to believe. Rain check they offered obviously did us no good. Course in average condition but cart paths in very poor shape. We felt the experience was a waste of money and would not recommend it.
Good
I'm a new golfer and played the course with seasoned golfers and the course was not to hard to play, but not easy either. It's set up to accommodate all skills levels. I would recommend giving this course a shot.
Nice and challenging course
Played 18 holes and enjoyed the game at Ravens's Claw.
Great Course
We really loved this place, some unique holes, a definite must play.
Great course - not so great management.
Great course that is kept in good shape. This has been my course of choice this summer, but with that said, I have had some problems with tee times. On three separate occasions, I have been bumped out of a tee time that I had booked online. Once I was told that a group of members booked a threesome, but showed up with four players, so I had no tee time. Another time, they had taken a player that could not go out on his earlier tee time (he probably got bumped too) and then bumped me to accommodate him. They DO NOT live up to the online bookings and give preference to members over non-members...eventhough I played close to 20 rounds at Raven's Claw this summer. It is disappointing as I really like the course. The solution seems quite simple....just live my your bookings, do not give preferential treatment.
