Greens horrible
What happened to the greens keeper? You upgraded the irrigation system but you neglected the most important part of the course! Without proper green maintenance you might as well shut it down! Pleaee get your priorities straight!
Good course, best burger
Greens were terrible but clearly being worked on for the summer. Course not bad for a cheaper public course. Staff is the most friendly and welcoming staff at a course I’ve ever seen. Drinks were cheap and the burger is top 3 burgers I’ve had in my life. Definitely grab one on the way out.
Good for the price
The course itself was in pretty decent condition. The greens were terrible but I think they are getting them fixed for the summer because they were clearly just aerated. Mostly sand and the read was non-existent. Overall not bad for a cheaper public course.
Horrible course Conditions
The four- star rating on GolfNow is extremely misleading. The Tee boxes had little grass and had not been mowed. The greens were poor. Weeds had taken over and made it difficult to get a true read. With a little effort by the greens keeper, this has potential to be a nice course. Although, the current conditions make it really hard to recommend. It is not worth the $50 green fee.
Course overall not bad
They obviously did nothing to prevent the growth of poa annua in many of the greens making putting feel like putting over pavers. Ther is not nearly enough grass in the fairways and in the area surrounding the greens - grass layer is thin. They did put in a new irrigation system and hopefully that will help the grass grow better. I have played here a great many times over 12 years and the thin grass of the fairway and greens surround has always existed. There are two fairways - #5 and # 16 that slope sharply downhill in a section and there are always problems with washouts - little effort has been made to resolve the problem over the 12 years I have played there. This course could become much much better just by preventing the poa annua in the greens, seeding the fairways and green surrounds to get a better layer of grass and fix the wash out problems on #5 and #16 fairways.
Greens need help
The greens had little weeds all over them. Nothing more frustrating when putting to not have a true roll. The weeds made a true roll nearly impossible. The course would be a Great course & value if they could get the weeds under control.
Ft Walton GC (Pines)
Made reservation for the Oaks course but it was walking only this day. So they put us on the Pines course.
Great course for the money. Greens had some “weeds” growing on them and that caused some puts to go offline. Probably missed 4 or 5 putts due to this.
Great layout and a variety holes was nice.
Will definitely play here again in the future.
The Oaks
Enjoyed the course and layout. Greens had many weed growths on them which affected ball roll and found some rough areas of turf, or no turf. Very attractive layout and fair to all players.
Greens were horrible! !
Played the Oaks course and 16 of 18 greens were infested with nutsage.! No roll just bounce. Won’t be back. Wish I had taken pictures.
Meh
Layout was good , staff was friendly, pace was fine. The greens were covered in weeds. No chance at having a good round due to the ball not rolling true. No chance at sinking a putt.
16 of 18 greens were horrible!
Nutsage was everywhere on all the greens on the Oaks course. 16 of 18 were horrible. Putts bounced left/right over the weed. Don’t waste your time or money! I should have taken pictures. I won’t play here again.
Windy Friday
Great course and well maintained. Enjoyed the round.
Needs some work.
Overall, my playing partner and I had a good time however the pace of play was very slow. Having to turn into a foursome multiple times just to move at a somewhat normal pace.
The greens need a lot of work also, I'd go to putt and the ball would hit a piece of grass that's taller and alter the trajectory of the putt causing a miss.
This was my first time playing, it would be beneficial to have more signs as there is no true separation between the front and the back nine.
Course was reasonably priced, the t-boxes could use some work & not much offered in amenities.
I would still recommend the course to a friend.
Greens need help
Greens have a lot of cow patches. But course overall is in pretty good shape. Course needs to either have a ranger or sign telling inexperienced/ slower players to allow others to play through.
Course is I good shape but the greens still have cow patches throughout.
Maybe be good to put up a sign to explain to slow players to let others play through
