Tubac Golf Resort - Anza/Rancho
About
The Tubac Golf Resort sits along the banks of the Santa Cruz River, providing a lush landscape of mature trees and cottonwood groves. The Anza/Rancho golf course is one of three different 18-hole combinations at the resort, which features 27 holes in total. The Anza's par-3 ninth hole has an island green reminiscent of the 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass. The Rancho nine's fourth hole is known for being in the Kevin Costner golf movie "Tin Cup." It is also home to what has been nicknamed the "Tubac Triangle," a challenging set of holes that includes the longest par 3, par 4, and par 5 at the resort. The eighth hole is part of this set; at 651 yards it is even longer than some of the par 5s on the PGA Tour.

Marvelous!
We enjoyed a glorious day on Otero and Rancho courses. My golfing left a great deal to be desired but that was about "me" and not the course. :(
Confusion
The layout is a confusing maze of three 9 hole courses that was fun to play. Both myself and the pair I was grouped with booked online, but the starter said we were not on his sheet. They pushed my tee time almost an hour because of their issue. They need to figure out their booking system. Best grilled cheese I've ever had at a golf course.
This course had great features
This course was a excellent layout with friendly staff. Fairways and greens were a little rugged for a course of this caliber. Probably due to the heavy play in this Tubac resort community. Pace of play was excellent even after a short frost delay. I would definitely play again on my next visit to this southern Arizona area.
Great Course! Inconsistent Service
This is one of my favorite courses in southern Arizona, but the service leaves much to be desired. The pro shop, reservations people and starters never seem to be on the same page. When I book a time, the starter often doesn’t have my name. There has also been multiple times when they’ve been rude with me for no apparent reason. Once, they even scolded me for showing up late even though I was 45 minutes early. Even if I WAS late that isn’t acceptable. They need to do better.
Greens were very receptive to shots, but a bit grainy due having been recently sanded.
Over watered!
Super wet course. Ever hit the perfect high draw and the guys in your group say good shot like 4 times? That happened 3 times.....just to be in water or mud ball in the middle of the fairway. Greens are fast but bumpy due to blaze marks and the greens keeper need to put sand in the old hole when replacing old holes looks like the moon creators everywhere. If they can change a few thing this would be a 10 course, they had plenty of workers out there.
What Has Happened Here?
Arrived 45 min early as we have not played since Covid started and upon arrival to Pro Shop we heard a senior employee ranting loudly about one of his students. That she was just awful or something. I was not immediately recognized as a customer as this chap kept the rants up with his beak in a computer screen. Finally got checked in and got out to our cart and was given our balls for the range. First impression was that the starters did not have the schedule under control as they used to as in past years. Much apparent confusion, i.e.some folks would just drive away ahead of their tee time. We finally got going without our other twosome who left with a member 10 min ahead of us. Assigned Rancho and Otero and this took us 2 1/2 hours so we only completed two holes on Otero then just left the course.
To keep this as short as I can: The Starters are not in control, especially with the members, as they used to be. The members are jumping all over the course. The bathroom just off the #5 green was plugged up, no water and the toilets were plugged up and unusable and no sign anywhere. No ranger or any person in charge of pace of play. We saw fivesomes on the course ahead of us. It was clearly apparent to us in 3 hours that the members at this resort are running amok, there are no rangers to maintain pace of play and monitor the facilities, a certain pro shop senior employee was being unprofessional upon our check in.
However, the course grooming was very good, the greens were fast and the scenery was as always very nice. BUT this place is not being managed as in the past and there are better courses in Green Valley and Tucson. Suggest you review the comments on the food and beverage service also and give some thought about what has happened here. We are very surprised and disappointed.
Fun course
Nice course in the desert with lots of water. Course is in great shape!
Tubac Special
Had friends down from Minnesota and they always enjoy playing at Tubac.
Fairway Driver
Very nice course layout, greens are fast. This is a fun but tough course, but will play this again. Hats off to all of the grounds keepers, doing a great job!!!!!
