Sunny, 70F’s, light breezes at Starr Pass

This course is definitely target golf. Second time around the Rattler and Road Runner Courses helps. Only complaint is the greens. First time, 2 weeks ago, they were firm, rough, shaggy, and slow. Today they were softer, but they had been small tine punched, still bumpy and rough. Today, Tuesday, the play was very light. :-)

Rough outing with girlfriend

Course was fun to play. Got a little windy. My girlfriend struggled with the carries off of the tee but a few margaritas made it more bearable for both of us. Not as hard a course as most of the reviews on here. Par fours play pretty short. 4 iron off of all par fours and fives and did fine. I will definitely play again.

Engaging Nine

My wife and I signed up for the Coyote nine, which is marketed as a walking nine. Push carts are “first come, first served” but we were able to snag the last two for our afternoon nine. Turns out everyone else we saw took a riding cart which runs $25 per person for nine (!). Coyote isn’t a simple “walk in the park” as it’s quite up snd down with a fair amount of distance between some greens snd tees. Still, it’s doable and creatively laid out with a nice variety of holes and plenty of challenge. Keep it in the fairway snd you’ll have lots of fun! Course conditions were very good and the views over Tucson to the Catalina snd Rincon Mountains were great!

Another good experience

Played Starr Pass for the third time in the past 6 weeks. Another very good experience. Course is challenging and in very good shape. Bunkers are raked, greens rolling well, fairways and tee boxes in good condition. Pace of play excellent (under 4 hours), never had to wait to play a shot all day. You need to hit the ball in the air here as there are many forced carries. Also, hit them straight or you will go through a lot of golf balls. One of the best courses in the Tucson area, but it is getting pricey.

Rattler / Roadrunner

Course is in good shape. Paint on some fairways but enhanced the green look and didn’t affect play. Good bunker sand in well placed bunkers.
Greens a tad too fast (above the pin, little chance). Held ok, not as soft as usual however.
Nice clubhouse with good food and drink.
Pace was fast (just over 3 hours) so no complaints there. Like this course for overall amenities and challenge...hit it straight and well!

Walked

Coyote 9 walking -- 8000 steps of good golf

The Coyote course is one of the most pleasant, yet challenging courses at Starr Pass. I prefer the walking 9 offered at Starr Pass in Tucson, AZ.

It's a semi-mountain, semi-desert well maintained course. Build into the slope of the foothills Southwest of Tucson there are constant undulations in the grass surface.

That makes it always a challenge for ball placement. The slope of the fairways can always take the ball to unexpected places. A seemingly errant shot can often be found on the fairway. Sometimes you never know.

As I've played this course about a half dozen times in the past year I'm getting to know the slopes a bit better. The greens are fast and well maintained.

The pin placement can be challenging --- yet there is always room to play a safe shot on most holes.

I can't think of a better way to get a good walking workout than 9 holes walking at Coyote. Hovering at the mid $30 range this is an undiscovered golfing bargain.

If you are willing to put in the walking effort this course pays real dividends.

Starr Pass - Rattler, Roadrunner

Not a course for the faint of heart (or a high handicapper). Easy to lose a few balls if you aren’t accurate. Great bunkering. A real test of golf

My friends and myself came down from Kansas and golfed this behemoth from the tips. Awesome golf course with incredible layout. Greens are firm and fast so be prepared. This is a course designed to challenge every aspect of your game so keep that in mind. Staff was very friendly. Honestly I’ve got nothing but good things to say, very fun, and we will be back.

Might not want to play this as your first round of the year

Just played this course as the first round for a few months and it was tough. It would be good to play this course more than once to know where to hit the ball. Some tee shots you can barely see the landing are and it makes it tough to know where to hit it. Other than that it was in good shape, greens rolled fine and it was challenging on top of the point made prior. would recommend but plan on playing it more than once for best results.

Great value!

Course was in great shape and very fun to play. Challenging in the wind but fair. Walkable is a stretch - it has a lot of elevation change. Will definitely play again.

Coyote 9

I’m 75 and I walked and carried my
Clubs on a nine that is anything but flat. It was, I thought, a challenging test, one that I would take on again.
