Stunning views and perfect greens
Having looked at the weather forecast a few days ahead I decided to play a course by the sea after weeks of rain and high winds. The course is easy to reach from Kilkenny, around one hour away.
On arrival the starter let me know that two lady members were immediately ahead but they would likely call me through as I was a single player. I wasn’t really bothered about that as the weather was glorious and I wasn’t playing new irons and wanted to see how they fared with no accurate knowledge of the distances they went.
The course still played a little soft so every shot picked up mud on the fairways but I expected that after recent heavy rains. The course has lots of tree lined holes with several newly staked trees offering at least a free drop for errant tee shots, but get behind some of the larger older trees is an almost certain bogey or worse. The greens were really true and in excellent condition- I think I must have lipped out on four or five of them.
The ladies did offer for me to play through very early on, which was nice but at the time I was happy to try a few chips around one green, and they were playing at a reasonable two ball pace. They offered again on the 8th and I accepted this time.
I played the back nine more quickly whilst taking time to take in the spectacular views and remember just what a great day golfing in good weather feels like.
The 15th I think is very Pebble Beach 18th vibe, and the course closes with three par 5s which give you a great chance to improve your score.
I finished the 18holes in just over 3 hours and enjoyed every minute- not even a couple of iffy/poor shots bothered me which has everything to do with the experience here.
And best of all- this was just €27 on GolfNow- an absolute bargain
Course review
Course was in bad condition due to the weather recently.. Probably should have been closed for awhile. 2 young lads came up behind us on the 6th hole and missed my head with a ball by 2-3 feet. No warning. The lovely lady on reception had told us at the start of our round that there was no one teeing off for 45 minutes behind us and there had been no1 behind us up until this hole. They appeared out of no where. When confronted about not shouting ‘four’ and not playing while we were still clearly on the fairway one of them gave nothing but cheek. Will not be returning as it’s left a bad taste in our mouth.
Good course design, nice views, would benefit from investment
The courses itself is interesting to play and the location is great but the tee boxes were rather neglected and could really benefit from some relatively low cost investments such as a a couple of padded hitting mats (I was afraid to hit balls on the very worn hard surface they have for fear of hurting my wrist if I hit a fat one).
Beautiful course
Always a pleasure to play here, Course is always in top condition especially there greens they are always perfect. Look forward to playing it again.
Great location & views
My husband & I pretty much had the course to ourselves so could take our time. Not very challenging but a lovely course to play whilst travelling around Ireland. The bar at the hotel is closed in September Mondays & Tuesdays.
Great course
Beautiful and scenic course. Well worth the price for a round. Highly recommend if close to Dungarvan
Beautiful course
Unbelievable scenes. Coastal course.
Well maintained. Fast greens. Will play again.
Excellent Value For Money
Played the Gold Coast last Saturday & considering the inclemement weather we have experienced the course was in remarkably good condition. The fairways & greens were excellent, bunkers were not great but this was to be expected & I am sure that they will improve as the weather picks up . Staff were excellent, were very friendly & helpful. We had food & drinks in the adjoining hotel. Excellent standard & great value for money. Looking forward to playing there again.
Super friendly staff and great coarse
The course was fantastic to play and was in great condition. Always worth the trip to play the Gold Coast. Staff running the club shop were very friendly and gave us loads of information about the coarse and the area.
Great course
Challenging in a good way, the views are brilliant also well worth the trip and will be back.
