Wuarry
Great course, very challenging. Tee boxes are set up to challenge you for you handi cap. If it's Wendy, take extra balls
Fun layout, beautiful views, odd experience
Every course is different - I get that. Living in Arizona, your course choices are nearly endless. With that in mind, little things take courses off the "play list" with ease. Case in point: The Preserve. While the views are great and the course in very nice condition, two items detract from the experience. 1.) Cart-path only. The dreaded rule for any weekend golfer. The rule is unfortunate enough, but then our foursome got chastised by a ranger for being 20 minutes behind our pace coming off the 15th green. 20 minutes. For a foursome. With cart path only. Really? Yes, there was a threesome a full hole behind us closing in on us but they never caught us until the 18th hole approach. We finished exactly 20 minutes behind pace. We appreciate a good ranger doing his job, but maybe he didn't know it was cart path only? Maybe he didn't know we had already let a twosome play through and the threesome behind us hadn't caught us yet? I digress. 2.) It's MLK day and some business are closed. I guess that goes for this golf course as well. There was no drink/snack cart and the restaurant/snack window was closed at the clubhouse. If we hadn't had those bags of peanuts we might all still be out there... surviving on bugs and desert fauna. We got the impression this retirement community would rather not have visitors on the course. While I can't say the overall experience was negative, there are simply too many great choices out there to warrant a repeat visit. Perhaps that's just the way they want it. :-)
Challenging
Always a great time golfing there. You have to use your golfing wisdom or you will get into lots of trouble.
Beautiful Course
This was my first time playing the course and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was surprised to have to pay for warm up balls on the range, but other than that had a great day. As with all courses, but more so with this one, being familiar with the holes can be a great advantage. It's a very pretty course without any homes or other man made structures on several holes which only enhanced the course design.
Wonderful experience!
Everything went as planned, very easy process. The course was in pristine condition with a great restaurant where we had lunch. Very friendly staff. We teed off on time and completed the round in 3 1/2 hours!!! Wow! Can't wait to do it again in sunny AZ weather!
Scenic and challenging
My second time playing here; the first was a year ago so I did not recall most of the holes. Would be a definite benefit if the club provided GPS because the undulating terrain provides for a lot of blind shots and uncertain distance to landing areas that can yield unpleasant surprises. There were a few times when I hit too much club or unwittingly hit a shot in a bad spot. But great condition and beautiful golf course tucked away in the foothills of the mountains.
Saddlebrooke Gem
Don't waste your money on other courses. This is the one you want to play. It is semi-private with lots of pay by homeowners, but they understand pace of play and are polite and friendly to visitors. It is a bit of a trek to get to the course, but well worth it. On the downside, on Monday and Tuesday the restaurant is closed and there is limited beverage service on the course.
Slow Play
The Preserve is a nice, challenging course, but slow play has become a problem. We played the front 9 in less than 2 hours today, but got behind a very slow group on the back and it took almost 3 hours. We did not see a ranger all day.
nice course, but
nice course (lay out and upkeep) narrow fairways, challenging. got the feeling outsiders (non members) not wanted there. had a frost delay but were never told.
Beautiful course
The course was in excellent shape. The greens and fairways were immaculate. Play moved along very well. There are some interesting holes that require correct club selection. Will definitely play again.
fantastic layout
Great Golf course, great conditions and the views are spectacular
Great day of golf
The Couse was in great condition. The pace of play.. It was like we were the only ones on the course. November golf at it's best
Great layout
Have always liked this course. The condition this year is outstanding. The maintance of the restrooms could definitely be improved. Staff continues to be a little uppity.
Management issues!!!!!!!!
We visit Tucson from Texas 5 to 6 times each year. This was my second visit to The Preserve at Saddlebrook, the first was in Feb. 2016 on a group trip and the second 11/23/16 with my wife. On each visit we experienced the same management inefficiencies. I understand the possibility of a frost delay in late fall and late winter but, the management has a responsibility to manage the schedule with integrity. Meaning, you do not change the schedule to apprease your friends and local members. In Feb, the delay was explained to us to be about 30 min., our group of 4 was skipped over and when we complained an hour later, we were then quickly moved to the 1st tee. We barely completed the round before dark. On 11/23/16, I checked my wife and I in at the Pro Shop. The management confirmed our tee time as 10:20 AM and made no mention of a frost delay. Each call over the loud P.A. system at the #1 tee box was easy to hear. 20 min. after our tee time, I overhear some members laughing about a frost delay as though they did not believe Management. An hour and 10 min. after our tee time we finally hear our name called to the 1st. tee. In the fairway of the first hole, the Marshall approached us, asked for our name, found us on his list of tee times, and said we were scheduled to tee off over 30 min. ago. That was in addition to the original 40 min. for frost. He confirmed that we had been skipped over many times by the Pro Shop management. The bag drop is a good walk from the carts. There were no staff on hand to assist with bags. The pro shop assigned us a cart number and we were expected to go find the cart. No attendants were available to assist after the round. The pro shop was locked and closed well before the scheduled close time. I only recommend this course to my friends because of the views, layout and excellent course condition. Management personnel can be changed and management issues can be resolved if they are seriously addressed.
Great Course
The Preserve is one of my favorite courses in the Tucson area. It is a challenging layout and always seems to be in excellent condition. Pace of play is usually good. The only problem I have encountered is that it is usually windier there than it is in Tucson.
Narrow Fairways
This is a beautiful layout and a very nice course. As we all know, desert courses are difficult by themselves but this course has narrow fairways as well as beiing a desert course so it can be a little difficult. A little local knowledge helps a lot. But all in all, it is a beautiful course set in the mountains and I highly recommend playing it.
