Bridges - The Tradition at Firewheel Golf of Garland
About
The Bridges at Firewheel Golf Park is a 27-hole layout that has been a regular host of U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur qualifying tournaments. The course is comprised of three nines that can be played in different 18-hole combinations. The Tradition nine is the shortest of the three at just over 3,200 yards from the back tees. What it lacks in length, it makes up for with the rolling terrain. Golfers will face tricky uneven lies in addition to strategically placed bunkers and towering oak and pecan trees. There are also two creeks that crisscross through the entire golf course. They come into play on several holes. Not only does the Bridges provide three 18-hole courses, there is also Firewheel's original 18-hole Old Course, which was followed soon after by the 18-hole Lakes Course.

Good Winter Conditions, friendly staff
Staff was friendly offered my to go out early. Driving range was grass although a bit beaten up but still decent. Course layout is really challenging, fairways and greens good for this time of year. Only issue with condition was some of the bunkers had not been racked leaving large footprints and uneven surfaces, also many leaves. Bit those were minor issues really. Lots of sand in the bunkers which is nice. Great value.
Good winter conditions
Course overall was in good shape. Dormant bermuda was fine. The two different nines had vastly different bentgrass greens though. Masters was slow and green and sticky. Traditions were browner, faster, and harder. Odd. Pace was good for a cool Sunday afternoon.
One issue the course seems to be having. Without Marshals, people are making their own decisions on which nines they want to play. I played my front 9 (Masters) and when I made the turn to back 9 (Traditions) there were 2 groups on #10 tee. People are not following the suggested and expected routing.
This is a good winter course. Challenging enough. They just need to make sure people are following the correct routing.
Two down one to go
Nice course layout, elevated greens. Many leaves on the fairways, but it is winter! I will definitely play this course again and look forward to trying The Lakes. That will complete the three courses offered here. Very nice place to play.
One of the real test! You see it from George Bush, Try it:)
Tight, comes close and if you can control your distances Firewheel Bridges is one of the top public courses (27 holes) in North Texas. New greens are coming in nice. 9 are still closed but the 18 you will play are named what they are for a reason. Will only keep getting better. My lowest career round was on Bent so they will be missed! Play it couple times a month and well worth it. Lay out is fair but I did hit a couple from the trees, almost holed a chip up a 20 ft bank from a run off area 45 yards that made my day.Saved par a few times but had one birdie with a much better back nine. The two nice men I was paired with complimented my short game a cpl times while I flailed several iron shots. I was not fishing guys…… for fish or compliments, I promise, I really was trying to play golf.😂😂 And I do practice my short game a good bit. George Bush @ Brand.
Great course, fast play
Great fun course. Driver off everything but par threes. Nice and open but water to make you play strategically over creeks and ponds. Really fun and will be playing more often to get in quick 18 holes
Great course
Great course for the price. Carts are new and clean. It’s a 27 hole track so the next time I play it it could be like getting to play a new course. Love that concept
Disappointing
I’ve played here before and liked it, but it’s been awhile. However, was really disappointed, primarily due to greens. In awful shape. A lot of mowed down weeds on the greens, rolled very poorly. Too bad, it’s a nice layout
Greens need some work
Rough greens and slow play made the overall day only average for us. The track is decent and the clubhouse is very nice.
Hailed In the Middle of our round
We played yesterday, got caught in the middle of the rain/hailstorm on the 6th hole - waited for it to pass, and finished the 9 in the rain. Go to the pro shop for a raincheck and proceeded to get less than half of our round in a credit voucher.
Not the best shap
Champions course was okay a few bad greens a surprise for me. The Traditions was not in good shape very surprising as this was my favorite 9 holes on the course.
The Traditions Course
The back 9 I play d the Traditions course. The fairways were in awful shape. Most of the fairways were dried out with no grass. As such, I was hitting off hard dirt.
The greens were in great shape and were super fast.
The Champions course was in pretty good shape, but way to many ball marks that weren’t repaired!
average with great potential
good layout, good holes, poor conditions on many greens and fairways. The total course needs better signage
From Perfect to Meh in 5 Weeks
Played 6/23/22 and everything was absolutely perfect. Bent grass greens on Champions were smooth even as they got slightly slower due to the heat. Back nine Traditions was great. Only 5 weeks went by and the bent grass greens have gotten really bad and the Traditions fairways have majorly dried out and died out, even though the new greens are firm and pretty good. Crazy what 5 weeks of major heat has done to Bridges this year
No more Bent grass Greens!
Super disappointed that the bridges is doing away with their Bent Grass Greens. It was the only public course that had them and made it very unique. The greens will now be like every other course in DFW, hard as a rock and unforgiving.
