Bridges - The Champion at Firewheel Golf of Garland
About
Firewheel Golf Park in Garland is home to the 27-hole Bridges Course, which is comprised of three nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. Opened in 2001, the course has been host to several U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur events. The nines offer plenty of variety, each utilizing the tree-covered rolling terrain in different ways. The Champion nine is the second longest nine. It features large putting surfaces and sculpted fairways lined with mature oak and pecan trees. You'll run into a fair amount of strategically placed bunkers on this nine. The Rowlett and Spring Creek meander through the entire layout, coming into play on several holes. In addition to the three 18-hole golf courses provided by the Bridges, there are also the two other 18-hole courses at Firewheel, the original Old Course and the Lakes Course.

The Traditions Course
The back 9 I play d the Traditions course. The fairways were in awful shape. Most of the fairways were dried out with no grass. As such, I was hitting off hard dirt.
The greens were in great shape and were super fast.
The Champions course was in pretty good shape, but way to many ball marks that weren’t repaired!
average with great potential
good layout, good holes, poor conditions on many greens and fairways. The total course needs better signage
From Perfect to Meh in 5 Weeks
Played 6/23/22 and everything was absolutely perfect. Bent grass greens on Champions were smooth even as they got slightly slower due to the heat. Back nine Traditions was great. Only 5 weeks went by and the bent grass greens have gotten really bad and the Traditions fairways have majorly dried out and died out, even though the new greens are firm and pretty good. Crazy what 5 weeks of major heat has done to Bridges this year
No more Bent grass Greens!
Super disappointed that the bridges is doing away with their Bent Grass Greens. It was the only public course that had them and made it very unique. The greens will now be like every other course in DFW, hard as a rock and unforgiving.
It was hot out, we basically had the course to ourselves
Nice course and perfect greens!
This was a great course we’re the ball rolled true on the bent grass greens. Some hard pan on a couple of fairways on the back nine of the Traditions course. The front nine of the Champions course was challenging with great conditions, but the back nine was a little faster due to crews not watering holes in between groups. Overall, my only complaint is that the USB ports didn’t work in many of the carts and we had two carts die in us as well. Other than that, I’ll be back next week.
Masters course greens completely dead
The Champions course was in great shape with excellent bent grass greens. We played the Masters course for the second 9 and the greens have been chemically killed. The entire greens are dead, starting to crack open, and you might as well be putting on concrete. Very disappointing second 9 after a great front 9 experience. The Masters 9 should not be open to golfers.
Will play again!
Great layout. Has a bit of everything, and it's in great shape. I guess my only "knock" would be the mandatory doubling up on the carts. I get it, just wish you could solo if you wanted.
Challenging course.
Has a nice layout, and is fun, but definitely one of the more challenging courses for a beginner. First time playing, so not knowing the course hurt me, lot of blind hills. Carts were a little touchy, refused to move, but pulling the gas pedal up reset it.
Decent greens, slow play
Visiting from out of town, just booked this last minute, found decent greens and fairways. Three nines at the Bridges course have good layout and some elevation changes. Very slow play. No starter or rangers. Range is good. Hope to come back and play the other courses in the complex.
