About
Windy Knoll Golf Club is known among locals as being one of Springfield's best public golf courses. The course was built in 2001, though you would not be able to tell from its traditional links design. It manages to be a classic links golf course while still being a challenge. The site was originally a horse farm and the design incorporates some of the features from the terrain's former use. Water hazards come into play frequently throughout the golf course and there are trees and rough lining the fairways. Golfers will find many risk-reward opportunities on the course, one good example being the par-4 eighth. This hole plays into the prevailing wind and if you miss your drive, you may find yourself in one of the eight bunkers surrounding the undulating green.

Surprisingly in good shape
It was cold, wet, and raining when I got to the course. I waited an hour for the rain to stop. When I started playing, everything was wet but to my amazement , the course was not soggy. The sun come out on the 4th hole and I started shedding layers. By the time I started the back 9, the course was dry and played really well. Unlike some courses I’ve played, the wet weather does your ability to play good golf at Windy Knoll. I always recommend this course for a good round of golf. birthday.

Appropriately Named
Hadn't played Windy Knoll in 3 years. I like the course with its realistic horse statues and links style holes. The day was very windy which offered some challenges. The greens weren't too slow or too fast, but they can be deceptively tricky. The course was also a little wet with the generous amount of recent rainfall. I like the course and hope to return soon.

A Cheap Rate
The round was only $20, but once we started playing we found out they had just aireated the course. The rough was terrible. There were plugs of dirt 3 inches long and 1 inch thick. The greens were not true at all. Each putt would get 2-3 feet from the hole and veer off to a side. Needless to say, scoring was very bad! It would have been nice to know the course conditions before we paid for the rounds!

A True Gem of a Course
I normally do not take the time to write reviews on anything, but recently I decided to start giving feedback and reviews since 50% of whether I may play a new course comes from players reviews. So I have decided to break this down into two different reviews, the overall course itself, and then the overall experience itself.
From a pure golf aspect, this course gets an absolute 5 rating. It is beautiful, challenging, well maintained, fair, and the greens might be the best public greens that I have ever played on. Large greens, fast, and everyone was in great shape and all consistent with each other. There is not one thing negative I can say about the course itself.
From an overall experience, I am going to get a little picky, but I want to preclude that my overall rating of the course and in general was a 5 star rating. My overall experience rating is a 4/5.
The Pro Shop was pretty much just a building with not much in it. If you wanted to buy a hat, nice shirt, shoes, gloves, then you can pretty much not worry about it, because they had very little to pick from, if at all.
The scorecard is as plain as you can get, however, you are given a color booklet that details everything about the course, the history, course map, and the best part is that it breaks down each individual hole with a description, yardage, green and hole layout. Truly priceless. I have only every seen this twice before at any other course.
There were basically no yardage markers on the course. We found 1 on the first hole, but nothing after that. It did not affect us at all since we had GPS on our phones, however if you are playing this course without any type of GPS, you will be out of luck.
The markers on the tee boxes need to be upgraded. They were horseshoes since the overall theme of the course is built on the former WIndy Knoll Horse Farm. The horseshoes are just to small, were missing, or needed some paint. This could easily and I think relatively inexpensively be upgraded to make the tee boxes look awesome.
So please keep in mind, the overall rating for this course was an absolute 5.
We drove from Mason, OH, so it was around 60 minute drive, but this was so well worth it. We have only played this once, but both my son and I agree that Windy Knoll now is ranked in our Top 3 courses that we play, and that expands to the Cincinnati area, Northern Kentucky, and now Springfield. We will most certainly be playing this course again. Thanks for a great experience Windy Knoll
Amazing course with great layout
Nothing but positive things to say about this course. One of my all time favorites
Pace of play
Worst experience I’ve ever had trying to play 18 holes of golf. It took 2 hrs 45 minutes for 9 holes needless to say is absurd! I quit after 3 1/2 hrs after 12 holes and only managed that by jumping ahead and going to the last 2 holes making my way back to clubhouse. Will never ever!! play at this course again!!!!
