Clearwater Country Club

I recently had the opportunity to play and received a warm greeting from the pro shop and the starter Paul. I was introduced to 9 locals who play when the sun rises and they asked me to join them as I was a single. They placed me in a foursome and they provided southern hospitality that was exceptional. At the end of the round the starter actually called me by name and asked how my first round went. The boys invited me in for a drink and invited me to join them moving forward. So impressed with the course the amenities but most importantly the great company.

We are playing the course for several years but it has been never in so perfect conditions like this year.

The fairways were nice as they have over seeded so it was very wet and carts were not allowed. Had to keep in the rough or on the cart path. Rough is very splotchy. If you ended up between two splotches then you were screwed. Greens were nice but they had top dressed. They were in the process of paving the parking lot so parking was a nightmare.

The course is too noisy and I don't like the proximity ratio to greens & tee boxes. Almost got hit from an approach shot to the green while I was sitting in the cart on the next tee box. All the greens seem to slope from front to back or vice versa but not many other variations to the greens. Greens have no contours.

Definitely overpriced for what you get. Carts are gas not electric so too noisy.

We payed this course in the last few years a several times but it has been never i such a good shape as in this year.

I enjoy playing at this course and it is in pretty good shape.

having player here many times over the last 15 years we have always found the staff friendly and efficient.

The course was in great condition too.

I little more expensive than most courses in the area but still good.

The carts are so very noisy as they are mot electric.

the only "complaint" is with regard to the appalling etiquette of sone of the other players - blocking the greens with their carts, four balls not letting a 2 ball play through, following groups hitting up too close etc.

Fairways were good. They've been overseeded so no carts on the fairway. Greens in good shape but boring. Some contouring but mostly straight putts. Most are sloped back to front or vice versa. The rough is very splotchy so not good if your ball ends up between two splotches. It's a fairly long course for the ladies and with the fairways wet, made for no roll.

There is a creek running thru out. Trouble is not always visible. Sand traps are good.

This 100 year old course is still fun to play. I don;t know when it lost it;s "country club" status , but it is now a municipal golf course. I can tell from the layout that it was not a typical flat piece of land that someone decided to develop, like so many Florida courses. Of course, it is not long by modern standards, nor are the greens big and undulating. However, it does have a certain old-style charm.

All that being said, the course was fun to play and in decent shape. The greens were healthy and receptive. The fairways, bunkers, and tees were good. And it had an average warm up area. The rough was so-so. The holes were fairly wide open and there was not much danger.

However, on the back nine someone got the bright idea to put long wide waste areas along the landing zones of several fairways. This must have been recent because they do not appear on Google Maps. This means that otherwise good drives can roll into a waste area and make a fun hole into a frustrating hole. I guess the obvious reason to mess with the golfers like this would be to save money frrom maintaining grass.??!

We were looking to play as a family but given the holiday routine, the only place with a decent tee time was Clearwater. Greens rolled smooth and the course was in good shape. It was slow due to the amount of play. Overall good experience!!

Due to recent overseeding of the fairways pace of play made it miserably slow and we followed a 6-some thus the "less than pleased" review.
