Clearwater Country Club
About
Located just minutes from the beach, the conveniently situated Clearwater Country Club sprawls across a coastal landscape of Spanish moss-draped trees and towering, mature oaks. Stevenson Creek meanders through the golf course, coming into play on six holes. Built in 1920, the layout has a traditional design that is challenging but fair. The course is tight but it plays long, especially on the par 5s. The rolling fairways are well manicured and the greens play at medium speed and are consistently well maintained. Clearwater C.C. actually has a reputation amongst locals for its superb conditions. It is also popular with visitors, snowbirds specifically, since the club offers the area's only seasonal and short-season membership with exclusive privileges. It is also one of the few clubs in the area that allows walking.

First Time
Not too bad of a course. Was some slow play but it’s to be expected when it’s a foursome in front of you, and a twosome. Most of the tee boxes were decent; had some crabgrass on the fairways on some holes. Layout on some of the holes were confusing at how close they were, but I was able to navigate because of the group in front of me(much appreciated). Overall it’s not bad for $30-$40 bucks. When I’m back in town I will play again.
First Time
Lots of trees and straight. Red Tees are way up so it makes it challenging and fair competition.
fairways are in pretty bad shape. Greens were generally well kept. Pace was fairly slow on the front 9 but picked up a bit on back 9.
Nice surprise
I played this course last on 4/5 and they’ve done a great job with the course making it even better. Plenty of grass from tee to green, however, the greens were a little slow, possibly in an effort to keep them from burning up. I’ll play here again soon.
A Good Local Muny
A good value for $35-40, greens are in great shape but tee boxes and fairways are a bit worn. Good pace of play and pleasant guests…
Fine for the price
The greens were actually in great shape but the rest of the course could use some work.
Pretty miserable
had back-to-back 4 man tee times sunday morning around 10am. first tee was so backed up, poor communication from the starter where we had to tell other guests what timeslots we had because there were literally 10 carts on the first box (no exaggeration). played the first two holes in 45 minutes. holes 4-7 very congested, multiple Fore calls throughout the day because of poor layout. i feel bad for the people who live close to the course because the roads are simply not safe to drive on. the club needs to invest in more netting to stop balls from going out of bounds. the course is in rough condition, very patchy and not well kept. would not play here again. do not recommend. we ended up playing two 4 man scrambles and were still waiting on the group in front of us. LOL
Definitely a nice place to play.
The course is pretty standard, kind of what I’d expect from something 101 years old when it comes to lay out. Almost all the holes were straight from tee to green, just varying in length, with a few holes having a slight dogleg in them. (A great layout for someone like me who is just getting back in the game.) The fairways and a few of the tee boxes on the front nine were a little rough with lots of crab grass, but the back nine was in good shape and the greens were fantastic.
Worse than most municipal courses
Course conditions were about on par with most podunk small town municipal courses.. pace of play (as mentioned in almost every other review) was horrendous. They book tee times 7 minutes apart so unless you’re playing each hole in under 5 minutes you’re going to run into bottle necks every 3 holes or so. Narrowest fairways I’ve ever played and it’s dangerous how they have multiple tee boxes within 20 feet of the greens. Unless you’re hitting the center of the green on every approach, you’re probably going to hit someone. Wouldn’t pay more than $15 to play this course if I was forced to play it again.
Very Poor Conditions & Speed of Play
The greens were in good shape but the fairways were goat trails and the tee boxes need more work. Pace of play was incredibly slow. Management placed league play in the mix on Saturday causing delays. Folks do not know how to play fast and how to play in the rain causing more delays. However, management is to blame for the amount of players on the course. The course condition and slow play did not justify the cost to play.
Wouldn’t recommend
Greens were in decent shape, but the tee boxes need to be trimmed shorter, grass was too long. Tough to differentiate the fairway from rough as the fairways were pretty rough and in bad condition. Rental clubs are possibly the worst clubs you can get, and you have to check the bag as one of ours was missing a putter and wedge, and the other was missing a driver. Ranger also didn’t seem to know what was going on considering he was starting groups on 10 or 1 at random. Pace of play was awful, had to leave after 6 holes as it had already been 2 hours.
Cheaper and better course conditions at other courses in the area. Would not recommend unless you don’t care about course quality or layout.
Dangerous Layout
Holes are jammed up against each other and along side busy roads. Even had 2 holes facing each other, creating dangerous tee shots and awkward waiting times. The short par 4’s and well maintained grass are the only nice things about this course. For $50 plus dollars a round, I probably won’t be back to this one.
Back again.
Played the course again, twice in two weeks. VERY HOT AND HUMID. Sod placed on the tee boxes was set and we were allowed to tee off from the normal sites. Course still in great shape as it was earlier.
After a long time
Haven't played here in a while. Not due to the course, by rather my other obligations. course is in very good shape. The crew were replacing the sod on the tee boxes on some holes, which is always nice to see.
Only drawback really is the layout. Almost all the holes are straight from tee to green. Makes it sort of like a driving range with a green at the end.
But it is in VERY good shape.
