who knew
Golf Now needs to list any restrictions to a course when we book. We get there and are told only the back 9 can be played - twice. Why not let us the buyers and supporters of GNow know what to expect. Not a good way to do business.
Nice Track
This is a great value currently since the Front 9 is closed for reconditioning. The variety of tee boxes adds a nice challenge to the course. The whites are playing a little shorter than most courses but that was fine. Great pace for a Sunday late morning. We finished in 3 hours.
I would play Shell Point at any time. The staff could not be any nicer.
Under Repair
Course is under repair until October. Should be closed now
Golf sixes
They are replacing the sod on the front nine and current turf is dead. The back side was in nice shape.
Greens were excellent.
Great layout, excellent greens.
First time playing Shell Point. Very windy conditions. Told starter that I was a 17 handicap and asked what tees he would recommend. He said “white” without hesitation. It was only a bit over 5100 yards I was hooked up with another guy”Glen” from PA. Told him I was a “bogey” golfer and he said that was about what he shoots.
Very windy conditions, I was glad the starter recommended the white tees. It was a strange day weather wise. We had high winds, then pouring rain that lasted 10 min and when the storm ended, we had hot and humid weather with sunshine. Couple holes later, the wind picked up again.
Starter informed us that the front fairways were brown because they will be replacing the fairways soon. The greens were lush, and stimped at 10. The back 9 fairways were green and lush. The greens could be tricky but they ran true for the most part. We both bought our tee time via Golf Now. Being May, the price was under $30. What a deal.
We had a great lunch in the fancy clubhouse, very inexpensive for what we got.
On the downside, there was no signage telling me where to check in. The guy in the proshop had me pre-checked. Handed me my receipt and told me to give it to the starter. I walked out and didn’t know where to go to get my cart.
Finally found the cart guy. He told me where to find the starter. I got my clubs and drove across the road to the range where the starter was. Thought I would hit some balls since I was 45 min early. Was told by starter that it was 10 bucks for a small bucket and I would have to go back across the street to the proshop to pay. $10 for a small bucket??
I opted to chip and pitch and hit sand shots at the large short game area. Then putted for 10 min at the putting green before hooking up with my playing partner.
Overall we both liked the layout but agreed we would probably not pay the 80 to 100 to play in season unless We were staying at the beach and wanted to treat myself. . I might play it once in season if it was discounted. On a 1 to 10 scale I would give the overall experience a solid 8.
.
Played here based on location .....
This course was near work, so my buddy and I played it. For $40 any other public course (Ft Myer CC, Eastwood, Coral Oaks, Palmetto Pine’s) would have been a better spend.
Entire front nine is under reconstruction. Front nine fairways are being replaced for next season, so they are letting them die. No slice or draw holds the fairway. Everything rolls out. Like hitting on cement. Ball bounced so high, we thought it hit the cart path, but the path was on the other side! Approached to greens were green and sponge like, so the contrast made play difficult to figure out.
Back nine played fair, better signage Needs improvement.
Great Course
All staff members were friendly and kind. Love this course and can't wait to play it again.
50/50
surprised to condition of fairways as we had played a couple weeks ago. sparse grass with rest of fairway as hardpan. not sure what happened. greens in good shape was only plus. no hurry to return to this course condition.
No Beer
Beautiful golf course nice layout ice and water machine at the washrooms on 7&13. But no beverage cart and alcohol not allowed on course.
Course needs work
Terrific greens, pace of play very good. Fairways poor, bare in many areas affecting shots. And a bhvkoof balls $14????!!!
Rev
Great layout. Best greens of the public accessible courses I played this winter.
Outstanding place!!!
I was delighted! I'm a 2 played back tees, challenging tee shots, greens receptive, putted at about 10 stimp. GLAD I WENT!!!
Wonder fully conditioned course
The best conditioned course I have played in the Fort Meyers area of Florida.
Longest 6,500 yard course but great
Outstanding course and challenging. Play it from the back tees, only 6,500 Yards, to short from other tees.
