Colonial Country Club
About
Colonial Country Club, located in Fort Worth on the southern banks of the Trinity River and near TCU, is one of the most historic golf clubs in Texas. The club was founded in 1936 by Marvin Leonard, who sought to have a north Texas club with smooth, bent grass greens (unheard of at the time, as many courses had either sand or Bermuda turf). The course was originally designed by Texan John Bredemus and Oklahoma architect Perry Maxwell, who formally worked with Dr. Alister Mackenzie. Holes no. 3-5 are nicknamed the “Horrible Horseshoe” and represent the strongest stretch on the course, featuring a 247-yard par-3 4th hole bookended by long and demanding par 4s. Colonial Country Club hosted the 1941 U.S. Open, won by Craig Wood and was the first time the event was staged in Texas. Despite now playing over 7,200 yards, Colonial maintains a reputation to this day as a ball-striker’s playground. Ben Hogan won the Colonial golf tournament five times. Other multiple winners of this longstanding PGA Tour event include Lee Trevino, Billy Casper, Nick Price and Ben Crenshaw.

Reviews
Not easy but a pleasure to play on.
Got a great deal on Golf Now, so decided to try this course. everything about it is good! At my age(70), I should have played from the advanced tees as the whites made it just a little long for my game. Lots of tee settings so would be a challenge for the "bombers" from the championship tees. Landing areas more than fair and greens in great shape
Every hole is unique with large undulating greens.
I highly recommend this course. Conditions are great, staff are helpful and there is a private course feel to the whole comlex.
One of the nicest I've played
Colonial is a perfectly maintained course in a beautifully landscaped setting. Big, pristine greens that roll fast and true, well protected by beautiful traps and lakes. Almost 7400 yds. from the tips, but plenty of other tee choices make it challenging but fair to the mere mortals out there.
excellent golf course
excellent golf course, speed of play was in time; course was in a good shape
loved the challenge
This was a very challenging course. Really well maintained.
excellent layout challenging enough for all golfers
Played the course a year ago and was not disappointed. Excellent layout and challenging enough for all level of golfer. Terrific value for money.
Colonial
Colonial was in pristine condion when we played yesterday. Pace of play was wonderful. Will certainly play again.
An Excellent overall course
I played with 2 fellas from Tennessee they were upset because of having to fly home. They were more upset after having been in Ft. Myers a week and were playing Colonial for the first time. Colonial is beautiful very easy on the eyes. The water stations and restrooms on the course are very nice. Excellent halfway house and staff. Practise area's are close to the first tee. The couse is a pleasure to play. It will give you birds but be a brute on the next hole and give you a double! Greens are outstanding they hold very well, but are very quick. The fairways are sloped into trouble so aim to end up in the centre...lol easier said than done. This course is a cant miss, and I have played them all !
