Lake Wales Country Club
About
Lake Wales Country Club boasts a classic Donald Ross design that players of all skill level will enjoy. Built in the 1920s, the golf course has a different look and feel than most modern courses. Rather than exaggerated hazards and dramatic contouring, the layout blends seamlessly into the natural landscape. The routing of each hole was determined by the existing contours. Like many of Ross' designs, the phrase "hard par, easy bogey" holds true here. The layout features small greens with crown centers that are sloped back to front. Rough borders the fairways and the wide-openness of the course means that wind will often be a factor. Lake Wales C.C. is a challenging but straightforward golf course. There are no trick holes but there are several holes that will make you think.

Rain trees AWSOME! Photo submitted by recon68 on 10/05/2014
Puttingh on sand is no fun........ball bounces and doesn't roll true. Course in good shape but someone needs to take care of greens (seeding versus sanding). It's the most important part of the game!
Course in average condition. Fairways in poor condition, greens in good condition.. liked layout of course gave you multiple choices of tee boxes.
Nice place to play
It was a nice course to play on short notice. Played the front nine and found them to be fair and somewhat forgiving. They need more signage to make it easier to get around but I would play it again.
SO SO
OK FW AND GREENS WERE TYPICAL IN FL. NOT A LOT OF TROUBLE. PLAYED SLOW ON FRONT. LITTLE BETTER ON BACK
Incomprehensible treatment
On 1/1/2023, I was solo for12:;52 pm.. There were twosome and another solo who had same tee time However, the pro shop didn't want me to play with other three players and asked me to go solo and start with hole #10. I don't know why they didn't want me to go with other players. I am not white and reasonably sensed that it was more likely due to racism. This treatment gave me very bad feelings and I couldn't enjoy my round at this golf course. And I will never play there again.
Nice course
Good course Had a group of 2 hit up on us and then played through without a word. I back 9 played behind a sixome. First time seeing that
A little disorganized
My home course was having a tournament and no tee times were available so we switched to Lake Wales. During the summer here conditions are pretty fair, and, the course drains well, so we played it a few times when our home course was too wet after the hurricanes. Like many courses in the area, the prices go up during the "snow bird" season. This one was up from the mid-$20s to $39. If the course condition improved dramatically, I could see the price jump, but...for the same conditions paying 60% more seems a bit opportunistic.
The worst thing in this round was...they had some sort of a scramble being played. I think our 9:02 tee time was supposed to be after the last group have gone through the first tee, but...somehow we ended up with at least one group from the scramble playing behind us (and we were the second group to start after they were supposed to have been gone). A scramble ought to move quickly, you're always playing from a good spot, you just collect the other balls. Also, at some point, as each group reaches the hole they started on, the course should suddenly open up. Neither of those things happened, so presumably folks played 18 plus depending on where they started.
I've played here several times and finished in 3:30 which is a good pace for a round. 4:45 was not a good pace. Our group being a three made that even worse since we were usually waiting to hit (can't blame the course for that).
It's a nice course, in good condition, but I think I will only plan to play during their off season if this is how their peak rate season is going to be.
Lake Wales A+
Played early morning tee time the day after Thanksgiving while visiting some family in the area. Thought the course played great, greens looked good and rolled true. I had absolutely no issues whatsoever, highly recommend. I would advise playing early as possible just because it looked extremely busy when I was finishing up, but playing early I had no issue with pace of play and felt I had the course to myself. Awesome day
Lake Wales country club
they have just recently over seeded and the tea boxes have improved a lot. The greens are still as good as always and the fairways are coming along. Still need a little bit of time as for pacer play today we played in 2 1/2 hours.
We had a great day at the course,it was thanksgiving day so nobody was around but they had golf cart and cards on carts for us,enjoyed it,all 3 of us!!
A sure bet following the hurricane...
Having played here the weekend after hurricane Ian I was certain this would be the one course that was dry and playable two days after hurricane Nicole, so I booked it on Friday (Nicole went through early Thursday morning) for Saturday play. The course was in good shape as far as the results of the rain, or downed limbs/trees. Carts were able to go anywhere (which is important since one member of my group can't walk an 18 hole cart path only round).
I like Donald Ross courses , and this is a good one, so always fun to play. So far, every time I've played the pace of play has also been good (this round took just under 4 hours). Slow play drives me to distraction, and I'm often not far from there anyway.
A lot of fun and well worth a visit!
