About
Links of Sandpiper in Lakeland offers a traditional links layout that sprawls across rolling terrain. The course is player friendly enough for players of all skill levels to enjoy but it has enough challenges for more advanced players as well. The course is anything but flat, and the ups and downs are the most challenging element you'll encounter. The small, undulating greens and narrow landing areas off of the fairways demand accuracy. Combined with elevation changes and strategically placed bunkers, proper club selection and course management also play important roles. Picking the right lines from the tees into the greens requires careful thought. You'll face a few blind shots thanks to the rolling terrain and there are also several bunkers strategically placed along the greensides. Links of Sandpiper's final four holes are the toughest stretch.

Owner spends millions
Course hasn’t benefited from the enormous redesign and expenditure. Half of the greens are under some maintenance with patches throughout. Back nine features many improvements with some holes actually architecturally designed with exceptional thought. Only one problem, they forgot to spend the appropriate dollars to maintain the course to the standards set by the improvements.

With all the rain we’ve had the past few days the course was in very good condition. It must drain really well since no standing water anywhere and didn’t even have to wipe off ball in fairway. A few of the greens have some damage but you could see that they are being addressed. Front nine unusual since it has 3 par 3’s, 3 par 4’s and 3 par 5’s.

So much potential
We played this course a few weeks ago, and maybe four or five greens were under repair. Now, it’s more like half of them. Sandpiper once had a reputation for not being able to grow grass, but we were hoping for better after the remodel. We still have high hopes for this course. It sits on a great piece of land. And the new water features on the back nine are super challenging. We will stand by to see if they can grow some grass on those greens.
Also, they need to put an updated course map on the scorecard. Hardly anybody’s golf app has an updated GPS for this place, and it’s hard to navigate the back nine without some help.

Course was in good shape. Place was terrible. We waited on every shot on every hole. Almost 5 hours to play and no large groups there today. The group in front of us weren't seasoned golfers and waited until the twosome in front of them reached the green before Teri g off. Didn't know to let faster golfers play through. Need a Ranger to keep things moving.

Recent upgrades
Course has improved dramatically since I last played a couple of years ago. Greens are on the small side and 15/18 were in really good shape. Playing only 6100(?) from the tips is why the greens are small I’m guessing. The back 9 is mostly target golf. I’d definitely play again.
I feel I need to make an additional point. We played 4 other courses in the Lakeland area last week. Sandpiper was by far the greenest (watered) course that we played.
