Links of Sandpiper
About
Links of Sandpiper in Lakeland offers a traditional links layout that sprawls across rolling terrain. The course is player friendly enough for players of all skill levels to enjoy but it has enough challenges for more advanced players as well. The course is anything but flat, and the ups and downs are the most challenging element you'll encounter. The small, undulating greens and narrow landing areas off of the fairways demand accuracy. Combined with elevation changes and strategically placed bunkers, proper club selection and course management also play important roles. Picking the right lines from the tees into the greens requires careful thought. You'll face a few blind shots thanks to the rolling terrain and there are also several bunkers strategically placed along the greensides. Links of Sandpiper's final four holes are the toughest stretch.

This course keeps continuing to do much needed updates. Greens were running fast and more challenges keep getting added. I think the course has definitely picked up recently, weekend afternoon round took 6 hours to play.

3rd time was a charm.. Can't wait for our next outing.

More grass
The front 9 layout was good. Several green where bare of no grass. Ball rolled ok but hard to read with no grass. Back 9 greens where great. The last 5 holes aren’t that good. It’s like they put in 5 holes without much room. Terrible. Sad because the first 13 holes are good.

Growing pains
Sandpiper sits on a good-looking piece of Florida land. In the past, the golf course was a weedy goat track that was always good for an $11 special. They recently undertook a massive renovation, completed in 2020, along with a commensurate price hike.
Unfortunately, Sandpiper still has some of the cheap-course hallmarks: no marshals or starters, indifferent pro shop people (who don't wear masks during the pandemic), no restrooms on-course, one water station in 18 holes, lumpy cart paths, cramped parking lot with small spaces.
As for the renovation: Maybe one-quarter of the greens are half-dead currently in early Spring, but you can see where the money went on most holes--it's nice! Where the grass is good, it's great.
Sandpiper added a ton of water features on the back nine, but there's no course map or description on the scorecard. Prepare yourself for what you think is a perfect shot, only to see a splash.
The course plays a bit easier than average (except for those homemade water holes), and with that good land, Sandpiper has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, it's hard to renovate a course's people.
Responding to the golf course response: You ask how you can earn the extra three stars, when it’s right there in the review. The course responses to these reviews are not useful. It’s like a bot is writing them. If you’re just going to ignore suggestions, go ahead and properly ignore them. Don’t be disingenuous.
We're sorry to see that you only rated us 2 stars. Please let us know how we can earn those extra 3 stars. We hope to see you again soon!

Nice course
This is a nice, refurbished course. It's in pretty good shape. The layout on the front nine is great. The layout on the back nine is really good until you get to holes 17 & 18. I don't like 17 but 18 is really messed up due to new housing construction. 18 used to be a really neat par 4. Now it's a pitiful par 3.
