Links of Sandpiper

About
Links of Sandpiper in Lakeland offers a traditional links layout that sprawls across rolling terrain. The course is player friendly enough for players of all skill levels to enjoy but it has enough challenges for more advanced players as well. The course is anything but flat, and the ups and downs are the most challenging element you'll encounter. The small, undulating greens and narrow landing areas off of the fairways demand accuracy. Combined with elevation changes and strategically placed bunkers, proper club selection and course management also play important roles. Picking the right lines from the tees into the greens requires careful thought. You'll face a few blind shots thanks to the rolling terrain and there are also several bunkers strategically placed along the greensides. Links of Sandpiper's final four holes are the toughest stretch.

Trees, a water fountain and rye overseed infact imply the very opposite of "links." Photo submitted by TimGavrichGP on 03/13/2020

Very Likeable Course
Definitely recommend. While just a couple of greens are on the mend, most are very nice. Hole 16 fairway is still short on grass but most others are just fine. Overall the course is very well maintained with workers visible making improvements. There are several water features making for a pleasant environment. Don't forget to take a picture of the 8-10 foot golf bag with clubs that was carved out of a tree near the 16th green. Pretty awesome.
What happened to yall?
I’ve played here a lot and given great reviews. Not that long ago yall were in great shape and the greens were real good. This time was as bad as I’ve seen anywhere iin this area . Maybe 1 green was ok. They were awful . Tee boxes were so/so. Some fairways were ok , others weren’t. Sad thing is the price is the highest I’ve ever paid here and the conditions are the worst. I don’t how u let it get like this when it was real good this past yr. There is no cart girl or range here which is ok as u know that up front. We were coming here biweekly because of the shape but it’s gotten bad. If ur as bad as Cleveland heights, u got issues . We won’t come back for at least 6 month. Maybe yall will fix it.
Seen Better Days
Not sure what’s happened to the course several years ago the new owners spent millions to upgrade everything and it looked great but in the last year things have not looked good especially the greens maybe when it was dry the first 6 months they wasn’t able to keep up and it damaged the greens the tee boxes and fairways r ok and the food/drinks in clubhouse no issues there people r friendly but until the greens r better the price should be a lot lower $20 or less hope it gets better be a shame if it doesn’t
Sandpiper
Play here in a league, otherwise I try to play other courses. Not a fan of the layout. It requires you to play a lot of target golf to be successful. Course conditions can be poor with a lot of tight lies.
Liar Liar
We booked this course on golf now and even called the course to be sure their greens were in playable condition. Upon arriving we talked with the individuals in the club house and told them we were excited to be playing their course again. When you played the first hole we noticed the greens had been punched and extremely sanded which made our round almost unplayable.. Why didn't the individuals in the clubhouse inform us of the course condition and why did the individual lie to me on the phone a few days earlier. Total waste of our money as we finally quit after 13 holes.
Greens under repair
As usual, no real tee time management in the afternoon because it’s handled by the bar so there were two groups waiting on the 1st tee in front of me. Don’t expect to get through the front 9 under 2 hours.
The bunkers were in great shape, fairways were decent, and tee boxes on the beat up side. The greens were the real disappointment, being about 30% grass 70% sand. I’d say at least another month or two before they’ll be back in shape.
Lastly, #16 could be one of the worst designed holes in the state. Fill in at least one of the three forced-carry ponds and put up a net off the tee for goodness sake.
Links of Sandpiper
The day we played there was rain in the area so the course was not very busy and pace of play was not an issue. Several holes on the back nine were cart path only, which is unusual for this course and there was no standing water but there had been quite a bit rain in the area the previous few days. The course was not in as great a shape as normal but was still very playable, I assume that this was due to the great amount of rain that we’ve had recently. As always, the staff was very friendly and we had an enjoyable round.
Sandpiper
Sandpiper is a pretty good course. Definitely has some challenging holes for sure and well maintained. Courteous staff and a great little restaurant with great food. Would play again for sure
Challenging And Fun
I play the white tees. The course is in good shape with only a few spots that are improving. One hole on the back 9 has the fairway under repair as they have reseeded it. I believe it is 16. It is a tough hole so pick your landing for the second shot. Number 17 needs a well placed tee shot and location of tee box can call for a tee shot over some trees. Take some time to scope out your shots if you are not familiar with the course.
sorry for your disappointment - yes we do use the bar staff in the summer as it is slow in the afternoon heat. I reviewed the tee sheet and there were only a couple of tee times booked all afternoon that day - walk ins are always welcome, but without tee times, there could be other golfers walking in as well. it appears you played as a single - try to ask and see if the group or groups in front might allow you to play through? As far as the 16th hole goes - it was mandated by the city that we take means to protect the road traffic from golf ball - hence the forced layup ponds to make the par 5 a 3 shot hole (there are only 2 ponds by the way - unless perhaps you hit into one multiple times?). as far as the net on 16 - not quite sure what was meant by that as the tee is well clear of any other ball landing area that is the same for the green.
Yes the greens were aerified and sprayed for weeds, and yes they are rebounding from that work - every golf course must perform these things at some point.
We hope to see you back soon as the course recovers from the recent maintenance.
