Disappointment
Had heard about this course from multiple people. Nice course. Fast greens. Yes exactly. But, also. You can not bring personal coolers yet coolers are not available on golf carts. There was no starter which ended up being a nightmare causing 5 groups to back up resulting in at least 3 to 5 minute wait per shot. Not a fan of teeing off right next to a highway and busy street. We golf for relaxation, tranquillity and quiet. If that's what you want. Do not recommend this course. Staff was very friendly but club house has a very strange odor. Overall, give this course 2 stars and will not return.
Routinely an enjoyable golf outing
As usual, this course is well maintained and the staff makes you feel welcomed even when your not a regular.
This course has great features
My buddies and I have played this course several times. The course has recently been renovated. The new owners have put a lot of time and effort into improving the tee boxes and greens. The fairways have been maintained. I recommend this course to all. Tee times were easy to book, the price is right!
Amazing greens
The greens are the best around! The course is kinda wet right now ... but we’ve had A LOT OF RAIN LATELY! Still my favorite place to play!
RAIN NEEDED A.S.A.P.
THE GREENS AND TEES IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. RAIN NEEDED FOR ADDITIONAL HELP. ONE COULD
EASILY TELL WHERE H2o SYSTEM NEVER HITS.
I MUST ADD..... THE GREENS WERE A+ AND THE BEST I HAVE PUTTED ON IN YEARS.
Champion Turf at St. James is very, very windy!!
This was my 1st time playing "The Champion Turf Club at St. James" in PSL. Not too much traffic on the day that we played (a Wednesday afternoon). Pretty decent and forgiving layout if you can keep the ball low and get under the wind (which is at least a 2 club difference). Some Tee boxes and Fairways were a little "beat up". More important to me and my partner is that there were no distance markers on the fairways that we could find and no GPS on the carts to help us either. On the plus side, you can play out of the bunkers (fluffy sand) + the greens, although a little too fast for my liking, were nice. My partner wanted me to mention that the staff was hospitable and that the clubhouse homemade chicken salad was the best that she's ever had! FYI on the price: I paid $7.11 on the front end (a $4.98 GN booking fee plus $2.60 EST. tax for 2 players for a 1:23 pm T-time) plus $20 (x2) at the course. No need to pre-book, call this club directly - they advertise $20 price for a midweek afternoon round of golf (but with no booking fees).
best value on the Treasure Coast
Clean carts, great range, bunker and putting area to loosen up at before heading out and Jeff, Maureen & Nina run a great pro shop...
Nice local course
This was our first time playing the course, after visiting PSL for years. It was a pleasant surprise! Nice layout, good conditions, excellent greens. No frills clubhouse but friendly staff. Highly recommended.
Excellent Course
Course is in great shape, love the lay out, and greens are in excellent condition. A real challenge. Excellent Marshal. Wish all courses had a Marshal like him.
Nice course
Nice course in good condition. The sandy greens rolled a lot faster than they looked. Lots of traps everywhere and be prepared for wind. Course is pretty wide open and very playable.
Nice greens
Greens were very fast and very true. Everything else was just a little above average. Wide open links style so you couldn't really get in trouble too much. Tee boxes need a little work. Overall, I would play again.
First and hopefully the last
The Good;
A Great course! In comparison to the GPA green fees, St. James is 1/3 the price. Using those #'s, St. James putting greens are 3 X's ABOVE par to PGA's greens, The entire course is always well maintained. I enjoy playing @ St. James.
The not so Good or Bad;
In the scant 8 years that we've golfed, this is the first time that my partner and I were paired up with another couple, by the Starter. Since we like to play at a slower than average pace (we'll sit at the tee area and let others play thru) this game was hurried, so it was NOT enjoyable. My calculated observation is = our 4 some took longer to play than if we were Not paired up.
We'll play at St. James again, but never paired up.
Challenging course excellent greens
This is a great course that challenges all level players. It is long with generally wide fair ways but mis hits will cost you unless you are capable of recovering. It favors a long ball hitter, but that 2nd shot is critical. The greens are true and fast especially in the current dry conditions.
The only down side is the groups are closely spaced and you will need to be patient on the tee. Speed players will not like it. We find this an enjoyable course to play.
Nice Track
Challenging on some shots, forgiven on others. Even if your off your game just a bit, there’s enough room to still score.
