Golfer Reviews
Good course but pace slow play not addressed
An above average course but no attention to slow play. Tee times just packed on top of one another. It's just too busy. Food is OK and the staff is friendly enough.
My favorite public course in Sacramento County
The pace of play was fine until we got to the 10th. At the 18th, there were about two groups waiting when we got there. The course was in great shape as usual.
Course is in great shape!
Empire Ranch is clearly working to improve the golfing experience at their course. The practice tee area has been completely redone - new distance markers, new hitting mats which are very nice. The cart paths have all been repaved. Course keeps getting better and better.
Course has a nice layout but 5+ hour round is too long
The overall course was in good condition (fairways and around the green has too tight of lies for the average golfer), but the pace of play was way too slow. Took us over 5 hours to play and there was not a Marshall on the course. They should remove the starter and use him as a Marshall to speed up play.
This course is always in excellent condition.
The course is always in excellent condition. On this particular day they had 2 tournaments scheduled so we were a little late in starting but the pace was fine after we got out on the course. There are some challenging holes, in fact, most of the holes have something to keep you focused.
course is in great shape , greens are fast
Empire Ranch is in great shape , right now . The greens have been punched and mowed for the season and are rolling fast and holding nothing . There is a remodel of the bunker complex on the first green going on , will probably have sand in it again by the weekend . other than that course is in great shape !
One of my favorite CA courses
Great course which I feel is under rated. Love it. Moved here from Wa St in 2005 and Empire has become one of my favorite courses.
COURSE IN GOOD SHAPE...GOOD PRICE FOR THE ROUND...
COURSE IN GOOD SHAPE...GOOD PRICE FOR THE ROUND...GREENS TRICKIER THAN THEY LOOK...
HAD A GOOD TIME, EVEN IN THE STRONG WIND...
Greens, fairways, tee boxes very good. Sand Traps AWFUL!!
This is the third time playing the course over a 18 mo. period and every time the Bunkers were as hard as decomposed granite, you can walk in to approach your ball and leave no foot prints.
great lay out!
The staff was very nice and helpful, the course was in great shape even tho they just punched the greens a few days ago..It has a lot of character ..Great course!
Best greens of any public course I have played.
Played on a Friday afternoon with 5 family members. Staff was very accomodating in allowing us to play two 3 somes. Only complaint was the long round because of the number of players they put out on the course. Played from the tips and found the course a good test of golf.
Challenging without being impossible. Very fast greens with extreme breaks.
We were lucky to play with two guys who knew the course. That helped with the many blind fairway drives. I liked the greens, but they were hard to read and were very fast. The breaks were extreme. The pace of play was good until we caught up with a very slow foursome ahead of us. I hate it when people don't play ready golf and take forever to hit the ball.
Other than that, it was a great day. I actually shot my best (85) in a very long time!.
The greens make this course a challenge, they were very fast and had a lot of subtle breaks.
i will definently play this course again. With the GolfNow discount this was a very affordable golf course.
The greens are faster than the pace of play.
Now that my son and daughter-in-law have a home on the 9th green, this is our second "home course." For a public course, it is pretty well maintained, with even fairways and smooth greens, which are very fast. All of the sand traps have been excavated, with temporary drops in place. The course has some very challenging holes that feature narrow approaches, water and blind shots. The finishing hole, a downhill 200 yard shot to a fairly small, well bunkered green, will test your skills.
playing smart pays off.
Many of the bunkers were under repair (stripped to the clay with
trenches for new drainage) when we played. Beyond that, the course was beautiful. The greens were as hard and fast as I've played in the greater Sacramento area and still didn't quite have it figured out by 18, but they were consistent and true. Some tee shots forced us to consider our options because of well placed bunkers. And almost every green had us considering the right place to miss to stay out of really tough spots.
The strangest part of our round was that we seemed to wait for a minute or two on most shots while the group ahead cleared out, but we still finished in under 4 hours.
Everything was great. Had a great time. Fast greens!
Had a great time. Everyone was friendly. Greens were exceptionally fast! Pace of play was good.. Very nice!
