Whitney Oaks Golf Club
About
Whitney Oaks Golf Club in Rocklin sits just half an hour from Sacramento but the stunning landscape blanketed with thousands of live oaks feels much more secluded. In addition to the trees, massive granite outcroppings accent the course. It is both a visually stunning and formidable championship layout. The diverse topography is the focus, providing many challenges with the elevation changes and towering trees that line the narrow fairways. The rolling topography helped to determine the placement of the bunkers. Wetlands come into play throughout the golf course, also serving as home to numerous varieties of indigenous wildlife. The golf course finishes with a tough hole, a long par 5 that is flanked by wetlands on both the left and right. Whitney Oaks G.C. also has a practice facility with a 15-station driving range, a putting green, and pitching area.

I play often. With 16 handicap it's almost too difficult
My group was stuck behind a slow moving 4some that was spraying balls everywhere. After 11 holes they waved us up to pass. The leader of the slow pokes admitted "This is our first time here. We didn't realize how hard this golf course is". So be aware if you carry a 20+ handicap you should probably look elsewhere to play. Here you are going to lose a lot of golf balls. You'll be frustrated by the narrow fairways that are lined with trees, thick and high weedy rough and steep ravines. The putting greens are full of roly-poly slopes and the surfaces are linoleum fast. There isn't a flat putting green on this golf course. I shot an 86 which is my 2nd to lowest score after playing this course about 25 times.
Whitney Oaks is challenging golf
My 25th round yesterday. April 2026. Played with two guys who didn't know the course. I got to be tour guide. The guys were 25+ handicaps. Whitney was a bit too challenging for them. They lost a LOT of balls, They seemed to enjoy scrambling around in the thick brush, marsh areas and the stands of trees searching for their balls and finding others. By ball scrounging they were net positive on the ball count by hole #18. No groups behind us so the ball collecting forays were not a problem. Whitney Oaks putting greens are wicked difficult. Not just the hard fast surfaces but from the roly-poly topography. Severe elevation changes on most holes. There isn't a flat green on this golf course. So if you are up for a challenge, come on down. As an indicator of the course difficulty the black tees at the tips have been closed. The blue tees are plenty diffiicult even for scratch golfers.. Despite the challenge here, I love this golf course. Scenic, woodsy, air smells fresh. I always finish with a relaxed smile no matter how well or poorly I played.
Tough
Such a beautiful and difficult course that keeps you think and push your skills. Love it!
CHoose your club wisely
Whitney oaks was in fantastic shape, the greens were very fast, and the course was extremely well maintained. The fairways are tight with heavy rough on the sides and in some cases cutting through the fairway. Driver may not be the right choice as many holes are short, use an iron off the tee and keep the ball in play. If you tend tp dribble off the fairway, bring extra balls. The rough can be like a jungle and you will not find your ball. Also don't play a yellow ball, the ranger uses yellow and they do get sprayed onto a few holes, so locating your yellow ball may be tough. The pace of play on a Sunday afternoon was surprisingly quick. Great course for value, but tough course all around.
Neat course. Lots of good.
Enjoyed the course but a ton of totally blind and punitive holes. Seems like they ran out of room on the back nine and had to finagle a course into a real estate development on not great golf land. Course has many neat things but is quirky.
Prepare to lose a few balls.
For a golfer who carries more than a 15 handicap this golf course might be too difficult. It's hilly. Lots of dangerous waste areas in forests, swamps, ponds, gullies, ravines, barrancas, etc... I'm a local. Love this course. It's a pretty layout. Sierra foothills terrain.I try to play it at least once per month. I do lose at least 3 balls per game. But while looking for my ball I usually find three more. Good golf course to replenish the stash of Pro v-1's.
Fun and Challenging
First time playing this course and we had a great time. Course was in good condition and staff was friendly.
