Talega Golf Club

About
Talega Golf Club is one of southern California's treasures, offering a challenging Fred Couples layout that sits above the "Spanish Village by the Sea." The course winds through canyons and valleys offering scenic views of the surrounding countryside throughout. The diverse layout will test your shot-making skills and there are also several interesting risk-reward opportunities including two reachable par 4s that will please long hitters. There is an abundance of bunkers coming into play, especially along the fairways, and golfers will be faced with the occasional blind shot. The greens are extremely quick and not a single one is flat. Nearly every green has multiple tiers. Water hazards also come into play on a few holes. One of Talega's most memorable holes is the monstrous 13th. This par 5 requires a carry over not just one but two ravines.

Fairways were thin in a few places but overall very good.
Punched greens and 5 hour round
Last straw with this course. Was full price online only to show up and them say sorry greens are punched we “forgot” to change it online. Slow pace over 5 hours, no beverage cart all all day and terrible conditions hitting of dirt or mud on tee boxes. Should not be able to collect a discounted $125 for that. Should be illegal lol.
Just fine
Tee boxes were either being redone or are just in awful shape, not sure which one. Decent course, I like the layout, clubhouse staff was very nice, but we had to ask the grounds staff multiple times to stop mowing, blowing, and to clear a green so we could hit
Telega is a Nice course
staff very friendly. Course is challenging, especially par 3s. Fairways could be better.
Great Layout Left to Atrophy
You can tell that this course used to be incredible, but it probably changed ownership in the last few years and the owners are not maintaining it but still charging the high prices warranted of a much better maintained course. It’s just sad to see this happen to a course with such an incredible layout
Great Pace of Play, Course Maintenance Lacking
When entering the property, signage also wasn’t very clear, so it took a bit of effort to figure out where to go.
We arrived early to have breakfast before my round, but the entire clubhouse dining space was being used for a wedding setup. That meant breakfast was only available through a small outdoor walk-up counter, with no setting available, which wasn’t the best start.
On the course, conditions didn’t quite match the price point. Tee boxes were hard to recognize (mostly just mulched grass with markers), and the fairways/rough had quite a few weeds and several soggy areas. Overall, the shape of the course felt below expectations.
On the positive side, the course marshal did a nice job keeping the pace of play moving, which helped make the round more enjoyable despite the conditions.
Poor condition
Tee boxes.. poor quality
Fairways… OK
Rough.. below average to poor
Greens… needs some fixing
A little pricey for the conditions
Overall the course was in fair condition for how much you pay to play here. The bunkers had pretty good sand consistency but had weeds growing in some of them. The fairways were a little spotty with many different types of grass throughout the course. The worst.part was the many types of grass around the greens making ball contact tricky. The greens were pretty good for the most part. We didn't see anyone from the course all day and could've used a Marshall to keep pace moving along. Pop was around 5 hours which unfortunately isn't bad for a Friday afternoon round. The pro shop staff was friendly but for a premium course the cart staff didn't clean your clubs with 3-4 guys just standing around.
Great course!
I was vacationing near by, and I found this course. And let me tell you. This course was the nicest course I’ve ever played. Beautiful greens, with the right amount of challenge. I also played my best round ever that day too. When I get the opportunity to, I’m going to return. Great course!
Great course, but..
Took off 1/2 point for p. o. p. of 5:15 on a Thursday with several marshalls visible on the course. Took off another 1/2 point for multi grass-type, inconsistent height rough and chipping areas. Guessing game. Everything else good. Greens good, speed very consistent. Will keep playing here if can get decent price. Prob most interesting course in Orange County.
Nice course for my first time playing here
Overall, a challenging and great course. This was my first time playing here, so I did not know what to expect.
Pace of play (this day) was phenomenal. I was playing with one other player and the pace was great. No pressure, which made it enjoyable.
Not worth the money you paying
I tee off on time but slow because the players in front of us super slow and I already mention to the Marshall and nothing was done. My golf cart stop moving on the second hole at the tee time box. The golf cart sensor displaying that my golf cart is on restricted area and yet my cart is on cart path. I try reverse it then when I try forward again and still showing that I am on restricted area ..got frustrated with it and call club house for assistant and basically end up i playing around and reset the golf cart underneath the seat. And the I end up have to rust to catch up with the rest of my group. Fairway has too much weed and mix verity grasses. Tee box poor condition and need to be trim down. Too much divots holes on the green.
Fun course
I usually play this course only when I get a hot deal. It’s really worth the value. I’d say it’s in really good shape . It doesn’t get too hot as well which is nice. I think the only downside is there isn’t a real range. It’s just a virtual range to warm up but if you can hit your ball straighten short, it’s a really fun course, but it is challenging if you hit really far.
