Talega Golf Club
About
Talega Golf Club is one of southern California's treasures, offering a challenging Fred Couples layout that sits above the "Spanish Village by the Sea." The course winds through canyons and valleys offering scenic views of the surrounding countryside throughout. The diverse layout will test your shot-making skills and there are also several interesting risk-reward opportunities including two reachable par 4s that will please long hitters. There is an abundance of bunkers coming into play, especially along the fairways, and golfers will be faced with the occasional blind shot. The greens are extremely quick and not a single one is flat. Nearly every green has multiple tiers. Water hazards also come into play on a few holes. One of Talega's most memorable holes is the monstrous 13th. This par 5 requires a carry over not just one but two ravines.

Needs Improvement
Clubhouse restroom overpowering sewage odor.
Delayed start time 20 minutes.
Two groups of five ahead of us, waited almost every shot.
Cart battery died hole 16, had to push it, called pro shop 5:05, closed for day, did not route call to cart barn or anyone else, cart boys apologized but that's not good enough. We're not told at time of booking that greens had recently been punched. Overall not happy.
Nice quiet course in nice neighborhood.
Not overly expensive snack shop with good breakfast sandwiches and beer
Played here a few years ago and remember it being a decent track. Unfortunately, it has gone downhill as course conditions were pretty bad. To their credit, they punched greens about 10 days prior but super inconsistent and the fairways were really dry and patchy. Pace of play was 5+ hours which is unacceptable
Needs help!
No food/cart service, carts were extremely basic, hard to find the next hole, expensive for the quality of course.
Punched
Greens were not recovered from recent punching, making putting inaccurate. Should have known that in advance. Some courses know how to treat greens so that punching only has minimal affect.
Bag Drop?
Had a bag drop in front but the attendant was a bit lazy. I asked him why have a bag drop if you are not going to get and load my clubs. He shrugged.. So he lost his tip and this 77 year old man carried his staff bag… without injury.
Management: read Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara🙏
Fun course
I've played here many times but this time it was not in good shape.
The course is challenging but fair. It was in very good shape, tee to green. The carts are nice and have GPS with descriptions of where to hit, distances to bunkers and hazards. Will definitely play again soon.
Good course
Good course for the money, they really need to walk on the tea boxes as it feels like first coat instead of the tea box. Unfortunately, no cart girl available While I was playing, would benefit from it.
Tee boxes
They are too lazy to mow the tee box. When you tee up your driver the grass it up to the ball. Forget about the par 3’s. The management is lazy and it shows in the quality of the course management. Way overpriced for what should be a basic requirement. Mow the tee boxes
Quite Expensive
Tee boxes were overgrown to the point that you could not see the markers and the markers were faded as well. It was very diffcult to see where to hit off the tee box. There is a driving range off site that doesn't open til 9am, so if you want to warm up before your round, forget it. Do it at home. The course has many different types of grass growing in the fairway, which causes lumps and bumps in the fairway that stop or kick your ball around. Greens were tough and sand traps had sand. Overall the price is too much for the condition of the clubhouse and the course.
Poor landscaping
None of the tee boxes are mowed and even if you tee it up it is like hitting out of a second cut. Especially the par 3's. It is pure laziness and I would not recommend playing here. It is over priced
Always a great time
Great course, but some cranky locals who are in a hurry, but that's fine.
Course is always in great condition, and pace of play was awesome.
A few blind holes on this mountain course
Not too far from San Diego. Great green condition. Some holes are blind shots. So better to have a GPS map device handy. Will come to play again.
