Talega Golf Club
About
Talega Golf Club is one of southern California's treasures, offering a challenging Fred Couples layout that sits above the "Spanish Village by the Sea." The course winds through canyons and valleys offering scenic views of the surrounding countryside throughout. The diverse layout will test your shot-making skills and there are also several interesting risk-reward opportunities including two reachable par 4s that will please long hitters. There is an abundance of bunkers coming into play, especially along the fairways, and golfers will be faced with the occasional blind shot. The greens are extremely quick and not a single one is flat. Nearly every green has multiple tiers. Water hazards also come into play on a few holes. One of Talega's most memorable holes is the monstrous 13th. This par 5 requires a carry over not just one but two ravines.

Honest Review
Played Saturday at 11. Course is in decent shape, greens are well maintained, fairways are what you would expect… mid. Pace of play was pretty solid, prob a touch under 5 hours. Course layout is entertaining. End of the day this is worth it for $150 as long as the pace of play is good.
Beautiful Golf Course-Very Slow Pace of Play…
So Talega was both a beautiful experience and also a big disappointment. I’m sorry, 5 1/2 hours to play a round of golf at a nice golf course was just too long. The Marshall even came out and apologized about the pace of place it was that bad. The group behind us called it a day at the 17th hole and we ended up cancelling our dinner reservations because the round went so long. If it wasn’t for the slow play it really would been a great experience. The course was great and very challenging for sure. I’ll go back but I’ll give it some time before I do. Slow golfers and golfers wasting time looking for a lost ball are so inconsiderate of others. If you lose a ball, take a drop and move on! You’re not on tour for Pete’s sake!
Can't find the staff for help !!!
Me and my buddy (two sum play) had a tee time on 5/21/2025 @ 3:27pm and we noticed that our cart battery were dying on 10th hole. Oh well !! It happens to many of us previously right ? I said, not a big deal.
Anyhow, That's not how our story ended.
Our worst nightmare started after we called club house, Bar, Restaurant and nobody answered nor returned a call and we figured our that all staffs are went home and there's no one there to help us. Bummer !!!!
To make the story short, we ended up pushing the cart for the next two holes and we got tired from pushing uphill than we decided to leave the cart in the middle of the fairway. Doing so, we let more than a couple of groups pass us and started walking through 11th~16th hole until we ran into the group who had an extra cart to lend to us (16th hole). Once again, we still couldn't find any staff works at the course.!!!
Unluckily, same thing happened to me about 4years ago at this course and I ended up leaving one star review on Google as for sake of the club to fix the issue and for the visitor(s) to aware this could happen to them. I was really hoping that they would have someone to answers a call or at least stay in the course as long as there are people playing at the course.
Pretty good, but too costly.
Overall a pretty good course, but becoming too expensive.
Very Challenging Course
This course is very different because there is barranca on both sides of most fairways, several water hazards that require carry, undulating fairways, many blind shots and difficult greens. Choose your tees well. The oave of play was very slow with no marshals. Greens were in great shape as well as most fairways. The tees required cutting and there were bald spots throughout but very playable. The pro shop and restaurant looked nice and tge staff very helpful. Can not walk due to distance between holes. Choose your tees well.
Nice course
Course was in good shape. The carts are set too slow.
Pace
Needs better Marshall enforcement for pace of play. One group 4 groups ahead of us held up the entire field and we didn’t finish our round before dark (5+ hours)
Great round!
Yesterday is Easter! not too many players on Course! We finished 18 holes less than four hours! nobody in front nobody behind, just like private course ! it’s fantastic experience!👍😊😂
Great course
Great course layout, very challenging. Golf cart is a bit old, no GPS and course map. Great value.
Solid course, but lacking ammenities
Very friendly staff, but no bev cart and no water stations!...take that back, I didn't use the restroom so it's possible there was water there, but no water stations at/near tee boxes.
No driving range! There is a practice facility 5 mins away that might be affiliated?...but doesn't open till 9am.
Pace was a bit slow, but marshall did a good job of coming around and let us know he was working on it.
Needs Improvement
Two 5-somes of men teed off before us, we waited just about every shot. Tee time 12:27 was over 20 minutes behind schedule.
Clubhouse restrooms had overpowering sewage odor so strong we could smell it outside. One of the carts ran very low on battery, had to get out and push it up the hill to #16, luckily could coast downhill to clubhouse after #18. Clubhouse closed promptly at 5:00, cart died at 5:05 and no one answered the phone even tho cart boys were still there. Liked the course but these were problems we should not have had.
