Marina Vallarta Golf Club

About
Marina Vallarta Golf Club is known for its stunning tropical landscape that is home to an abundance of wildlife. Golfers have the opportunity to play amongst iguanas and alligators while enjoying scenic views of the Bay of Banderas. The course is blessed with a bevy of natural hazards including towering palm trees, lagoons, and waterfalls. Colorful tropical flowers and native vegetation further accent the landscape. In addition to the natural hazards, there are also a few strategically placed bunkers along the greensides. The golf course offers a challenging but fair test that is not overly demanding, which is probably for the best since it is easy to get distracted by the beautiful surroundings. Given its versatility and scenery, Marina Vallarta G.C. has become a popular venue for various golfing events, including the Governor's Cup Pro/Am Tournament.

Beware of the Crocs! Photo submitted by dharvey13 on 07/19/2016
Marina is a challenge
We have played this course for over 8 years. Course knowledge helps a great deal. There are loads of bunkers in the fairways and around the greens. The greens are a bit inconsistent, however the course installed a new type of grass on the back nine (and presumably will do the same with the front nine by next year), which is a big improvement. We love seeing all of the wildlife around the course. We will play this course again!
I had high expectation but disappointed
I didn't realize the course was in bad shape. Not becauseit rained the night before. Only front 9 was playable. Course is not well maintained. Not all amenities were available, even the range. My first time and wont go back.
Great Bang for Your Buck!
This was the 6th course we played while in Puerto Vallarta. It was by far the cheapest, but it was a pleasant surprise. Course was in very good shape, They supplied us with ice and water, which didn't happen on a course we played over $200 to play. Took our clubs to the car for us. It is in the middle of the city, tons of palm trees, very scenic. It was well worth the $33 we paid after all our Golf Now discounts.
Bad time of year?
Maybe just bad time of the year. Only able to play back nine since front nine were under construction. Maybe only offer a price for 9 holes instead of charging full price for 9 holes twice? Greens were good. Fairways pretty watery and muddy but it had been raining a lot past few nights. Service was great. No one else golfing but probably due to price
Arrived and was told that only 9 holes were available The front 9 was closed. They said because I booked through golf now.com that they would not honor any discount. If I had booked directly with them I would only pay $75 due to condition. We will obviously look at booking direct with the course going forward to avoid being disappointed and overcharged.
Decent play
Worth the $80 fee during May-August . But I would not pay the winter fees of over $160. Challenging course with plenty of water. Bring extra golf balls.
They offer caddies if you want to hire one.
Staff was wonderful, would come back for sure.
Course layout was difficult but not impossible for your average golfers. Price was great as I found some hot deal times….. they said right now is the offseason and the course conditions reflected that.
I would stick with deal times for April/May. I would 100% come back for the treatment from the staff alone. They were all super nice and spoke English and Spanish for those of us who weren’t bilingual.
It’s just not worth the money
The course layout is good very challenging but the price of the green fees are way too high the course sits empty from 7am until 2pm after 2pm the course is full of golfers why because the rates goes from $145 to $75 which it my opinion is still too high and to charge $50 for a rider is wrong $20 at the most
Our condo is on the marina course and I would rather play the Vidanta it’s cheaper and a far better course
challenging
Fairways were really nice and greens very smooth although firm. Tight course. Lots of trees. Crocodiles like the water hazards
Better than expected!
My son (16) and I played a round during his high school spring break. We played on a Tuesday and I booked our golf using the GolfNow app. I paid $75 for each of us -- with taxes the total was $165. We didn't travel with our own clubs, so we had rent clubs. They gave us two choices (standard or deluxe). The standard was $55 per set and appeared to be random clubs (mix of Taylor Made Sim2 and other random sets). We decided to go with the deluxe set ($65 per set) -- Calaway Rogue DS (irons) and Rogue Max D (driver). The set was 5 thru sand wedge, plus 4 hybrid, 5 wood driver and Oddysey putter. Stock set, but not bad. They were definitely used, but still had good life. The drivers had regular flex shaft which took a little adjusting to. Not a big deal.
Golf (18 holes), clubs, cart and range balls all came to 5,700 mx pesos ($285 US dollars).
We stayed at the Marriott (across the street), so we just walked over to the clubhouse. We arrived at 1pm for a 2:30 tee time). We decided to eat a quick lunch while they got our clubs ready. The restaurant at the club house was great. We got a table overlooking the 18th green. It was fun watching golfers finishing thier round.
The range and practice putting green were both great.
We hit the snack shop prior to starting our round. Bought a few waters/sodas/beers and they gave us a complimentary cart cooler (with ice).
The course Marshall (starter) introduced himself while we were on the range and mentioned we could start earlier than our 2:30 tee time if we wanted. We elected to start early and hit our 1st shots by 2:10.
Course was in great shape. Greens were solid. They ran faster than we are used to. Really, no complaints about the course. Fairways were a little tight for me. I'm a 7 handicap and I went OB 3 times. Hit the water twice, but was able to find and collect both those water balls.
We saw about 10 crocodiles on the course. They were just basking in the sun. On one hole, a 6 foot crocodile was on the black tee box. We hit from the whites, so no issues there. It was actually fun knowing the crocs were on the course, we just gave them plenty of space.
Overall, we really enjoyed the round and would play here again without hesitation. Staff were great, and the GolfNow app saved us some money (because we started in the afternoon). It was March, so temps were fine (83 degrees). We saw a beverage cart 3 times during our round.
We brought balls, tees, gloves . . . So we saved some money there.
