The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Tortolita/Wild Burro
About
The desert foothills of the Tortolita Mountain Range provide the stunning backdrop for the three nines designed by Jack Nicklaus at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain. They are played in three different 18-hole combinations, one of them being Tortolita/Wild Burro. The Tortolita nine serves as the back nine for the PGA Tour's Accenture Match Play Championship, but Nicklaus considers Wild Burro to be the best of the three. Playing through canyons and desert washes, the golf course features dramatic elevation changes and stunning views. Tortolita's third hole has the highest elevation at the club while the ninth hole on Wild Burro is the longest finishing hole of any of the nines. The intricately contoured greens and strategic fairway bunkering provide a challenge for even experienced golfers.

Outstanding Value!
This course is well-maintained! It’s also a well thought out layout with enough challenges for the low handicap her but also easy enough for the hike at handicapper to enjoy a wonderful round of golf!
Who's writing theses reviews??
First off it was cart path only on the front 9 ,you were told after you paid. After driving 1.5 hrs what are you going to do pack it up and leave? Second the people working there are very rude. This place used to be beautiful, what has happened.? Restaurant was closed, the chipping area had no golf balls and when I found someone to ask he just drove away. As far as conditions, it was very bad. Need someone here to take care this place before it's to late. It looks like they have some kind of fungus growing every where. The greens were a joke the ball would just bounce all the way, no one has rolled these greens. The beverage cart on the back nine seen her one time on the 18th hole, and she told us at 2:30 everything was closed so if you wanted something to drink now's your chance.I feel management has been writing these reviews, you need to be honest with your customers. While you still have some
A lot of walking
It would be nice if a course is overseeding they would let golf now know so at your option you could decide to walk the back 9 or not, As it was cart path only.
First timers
Glad we decided to play, shot value was really good, as was the overall condition. A controllable tee ball is needed if you want to score. Liked the movement of the layout. Staff overall was freindly
Poor staff attitude
Slow play as paired up "speed up your round" but had opposite effect. Just wanted to cram in players. No staff around when finished the round and poor facilities for after the game.
Wild Burro and Tortolita
Played Wild Burro and Tortilita 9's. Both were in good shape. Greens a touch slow but understandable considering season. Played in ~3hrs and was paired up with a nice guy. I enjoyed the Wild Burro as I had not played it prior. It's tucked up against the mountains by the Ritz and is very peaceful. Would have preferred to play the Saguaro nine as I love the layout and views. It has some of the neatest saguaro I've seen. All in all, it was a good experience. I likely wouldn't pay full price in high season unless each element was more fine tuned (conditioning, practice facility etc).
Great course!
The course was in great shape and very challenging. Tee time was early enough and pace of play was okay.
A must play
The most well laid out course I've ever played. Almost every single shot has a risk/reward aspect to it - drive it over the bunker and wedge it in. Land in the bunker and it's at least a 2 stroke penalty. Avoid the bunker and be safe, but with a long iron into the green. Requires a lot of thinking - out of the 14 par 4 and par 5 holes, I used driver 6 times, 4 iron 4 times 5 iron 3 times and even a 6 iron. No more "blindly grab the driver". I really enjoyed having to think my way around!
Definitely a "Better player" course.
1st time out & enjoyed my round more than anticipated. Was allowed to start a little earlier than our tee time. We were eager to get out so we were pleased to go. Pace was no issue till the third hole where my 2 some caught another 2 some that seemed to be struggling a bit. I also was experiencing my own challenges but even that said we were waiting on every tee box through the 9th hole where the group in front of us must have finished there round. We blew through a 4 some around the 12th were we were free to finish at out own pace. The course is in excellent shape including the greens which I expected to be a little burnt out given the current weather. Not the case, they were rolling true. Outstanding layout ! Can't wait to return for another round ! Not many courses like this around these parts. If you are ready for something really catering to your game, this is it !! Staff also on point. Could not ask for better service.
The course had everything you could ask for in enjoying a GREAT round of golf
Fabulous
This course is a must play, you will not be disappointed from the time you walk into the club house till you walk off the 18th and your clubs are loaded in your car!!
Fantastic facility
The only minus that I can think of is the endless swarm of flies that overwhelmed us.
I love Desert golf!
Great course!! For the end of August, it should looked burned out (atleast you'd think). Not here! Beautiful!!
A great layout and a little tricky with some of the sight lines (played from tips). Although it was around 7300 yards., my guess is that it's closer to 6500-6600. So fun though, played well and would play it again in a heartbeat.
Side note-saw a rather large bobcat on the 9th of Saguaro. So just be aware.
Tremendous day
Played this course because I knew it is where the match play used to be for the PGA. It was in excellent condition. The greens were pristine and having GPS in your cart was great. You definitely need GPS. Lay up shots in front of ravines or sand traps. Difficult but fair. I consider myself an average golfer but this course will humble you. Have some sleeves and be ready for a beautiful course.
Great. Everything I expected
Well maintained. greens and fairways in excellent shape. Perfect overall experience. I'd play it again tomorrow.
