The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Tortolita/Wild Burro
About
The desert foothills of the Tortolita Mountain Range provide the stunning backdrop for the three nines designed by Jack Nicklaus at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain. They are played in three different 18-hole combinations, one of them being Tortolita/Wild Burro. The Tortolita nine serves as the back nine for the PGA Tour's Accenture Match Play Championship, but Nicklaus considers Wild Burro to be the best of the three. Playing through canyons and desert washes, the golf course features dramatic elevation changes and stunning views. Tortolita's third hole has the highest elevation at the club while the ninth hole on Wild Burro is the longest finishing hole of any of the nines. The intricately contoured greens and strategic fairway bunkering provide a challenge for even experienced golfers.

An excellent course with beautiful views
This course is exceptionally well maintained despite a strong sun light and hot and dry atmosphere in the southern Arizona.
Challenging Course
Always play this one several times each summer. Numerous forced carries and greens are always a challenge with various levels and undulations. Fairways , rough, greens and sand traps were all in good shape. Some tee boxes were a little chewed up, but it is late summer.
Fantastic course- dramatic scenery
If you have never been to Arizona, or if you want the quintessential desert golf outing, this is the place to play. Stunning views, great layout. There are no houses on the back 9 at all, so it is a very serene, setting. Just a great course all around. Can't wait to go back.
GD @ Dove Mountain
Played the Copper tees (72.1/132/6756) on the Wild Burro/Saguaro combo in 4.5 hours mid day. Matched up with Aaron, Art & Jeff, we played in hot & humid conditions. It was fairly still for the 1st 2/3 of the round, with the wind whipping up in the 20-25 mph range as a storm approached as we were finishing up.
Nicklaus Signature course that was used for the World Match Play a few years back. From tee to green it was fair for a high end desert course designed to test PGA Tour players. On 1st glance, it seems mostly flat, but the course has alot of undulation that produced more uneven lies than you would expect based on what you see from the tee. The course is at elevation (3000'?), so it plays shorter than the yardage indicates.
The mostly raised green complexes are typical Nicklaus, except on steroids. Not only fairly severe undulations, but most greens had numerous pin locations that were out on a shelf where if you missed the green you were in a deep bunker or had almost no green to work with on a severely uphill chip.
The Bermuda tees were mostly lush and well maintained.
The Bermuda fairways were nice, very good bordering on excellent.
the Bermuda rough was penal, just long enough that the ball usually sat down. A few bare areas here and there, but mostly lush.
The sand traps were large, plentiful, deep and very well maintained. Many of these traps need to flat out be avoided by most amateurs because of the size of the lips.
The greens were medium speed and putted mostly smooth. I had a good putting day, but these things would be unmanageable for most players when they are fast. I had numerous double breakers and several putts I played 4-6' of break on.
The customer service was very good from all encountered. Cart attendant cleans your clubs and provided plenty of water on a hot day. Nice putting/chipping greens and all grass driving range in included with your fee. Really good course. Definitely recommended.
One of Arizona's finest golf courses
Most of the course was excellent. Greens were very nice condition. Some areas on the fairway and near the greens were a little rough....... some spots were bare or near bare. The desert suffers during the heat of the summer. Lots of hazards, bunkers , water, ".......and anywhere off the Fairway is nearly unplayable. Big, why fairways. GPS on the cart is critical to the first time player. Some of the best views anywhere near Tucson.
Difficult Tee Shots
Probably the most demanding course I've played in regards to placement off the tee. Play for position instead of distance off the tee. Fairway bunkers were challenging. Definitely a must play in the Tucson area. Was a little disappointed in the pace of play considering there weren't than many groups on the course.
Tough and tougher
Course is 5min from our home in Dove Mountain. Figured at $17 / player what can you lose. Several friends advised us that course is very picturesque but tough. They underestimated the tough.. more like very tough. But the views made up for a very bad round.
A great course in Tucson
Everything was near perfect except that there was no drinking water along the course.
Excellent bargin on GolfNow hot deals. Challenging course, but had fun with a good friend.
Amazing.
Cant say enough about this course. Go play it. Amazing.
Played where the pros played
Early morning round and under overcast skies and low temperatures for June. Played T and S 9s. Very challenging layout and greens! Fun, fun, fun!
Beautifully challenging
Amazing scenery, super-cool layout, lots of bunkers, and undulating greens. Restraint is key at Dove Mountain, it's easy to get too aggressive and end up regretting it. Great course. No, fantastic course!
Tucson's best
The class of Tucson golf. It's a cut above all other courses in the area. Simply tremendous
Must Play Course!
Terrific golf course. In outstanding condition, especially considering no rain for months and temperatures have been 110+ the past week. Great layout!
I was the last person to tee off for the day (12:50pm) and since no on course hospitality cart, they fill a cooler with ice water.
amazing landscape
2nd time on this course, local knowledge is key aspect. But need to avoid all bunkers as they are quite punitive. Course seemed a bit dry, some brown spots in fairway and very tight lies.
The Challenge of Desert Golf!
Golf at Dove Mountain was a great experience! The course was challenging. Greens rolled true and were fun to putt. Pace of play was excellent! This is a place to play if you're in the Tuscan area.
