The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Tortolita/Wild Burro
About
The desert foothills of the Tortolita Mountain Range provide the stunning backdrop for the three nines designed by Jack Nicklaus at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain. They are played in three different 18-hole combinations, one of them being Tortolita/Wild Burro. The Tortolita nine serves as the back nine for the PGA Tour's Accenture Match Play Championship, but Nicklaus considers Wild Burro to be the best of the three. Playing through canyons and desert washes, the golf course features dramatic elevation changes and stunning views. Tortolita's third hole has the highest elevation at the club while the ninth hole on Wild Burro is the longest finishing hole of any of the nines. The intricately contoured greens and strategic fairway bunkering provide a challenge for even experienced golfers.

#3 on Saguaro Photo submitted by timstaley on 10/25/2012
Course set up was difficult pin placements on almost every hole were pro set up, not exactly a fun resort course which made pace of play stressful. Will play again now that I know what to expect.
Very Good Condition
We played the yellow tees at 6300 yards, and I shot 18 strokes over my normal handicap.
Greens were in excellent condition, but very large with many levels and contours.
Course has a lot of sand bunkers, with some at greens being taller than me at over 6 feet. Sand
Was not consistent from one to another, which made them more difficult.
Would say the slope of 128 from the yellow tees is too low..
Bring your A game to play a challenging course.
Golf Doesn't Get Better Than This
The views from the course are spectacular. There are almost no homes around the course making the commune with nature even more intimate.
Most fairways provide a lot of room for your tee shot. The greens on the Saguaro course were firm and fast. Those on the Wild Burro less so. The greens have a lot of undulations and with the effect of the mountains makes reading them a challenge.
Playing in the late afternoon meant I could play as fast or slow as I chose. The maps of each hole and distances to hazards displayed on the GPS system in the cart were extremely helpful. The beauty of each hole and the variety of holes (doglegs, water, short, long, etc.) make for a perfect day of golf.
Great golf!
We had a great time. We had room ahead and behind us so we're able to fly. The rough is unforgiving because of all the cacti so hit it straight and true. The greens are undulating and I found them difficult to get a true read.
Need to go back to give it another go at it.
Excellent Course
Everything about the course was top notch. Very challenging for our group of 12 to 18 handicappers. The greens were in perfect shape but super fast. Not a course you would expect to score well on and we didn't. But still had a great time because of the beauty and the conditions.
Yep the greens are tricky
While the fairways are not to narrow, they did have a lot of forced carry over washes which are difficult to see. The greens are very difficult with lots of contour and challenging pin placements, top it off with windy conditions and by the end of the round you just want to get off the course as no longer enjoyable. Clayton's restaurant was very nice and pro sho staff were friendly. Will likely not return especially for the money paid to get "beaten up".
Bring your A game
Beautiful course. Played almost alone on a Monday. Layout is fair, but greens are oh so tough. You not only have to hit them, but you have to be in the correct level or you've no chance. Challenging is an understatement but really enjoyed it.
Challenging Course with great views
We played the Saguaro 9 and the Wild Burro 9. The layout is interesting and long. The greens and fairways were dry in spots but not bad considering the heat that day. We started at 10:40am and we were able to complete our round in 4 hours. Having an electronic map and GPS was helpful since there are some blind shots and waste areas not seen from the fairway. Everyone was helpful and friendly.
I'd play it again when I'm in the area.
very nice ,well maintained golf course. worth the drive and time it took to get there.
Desert Golf as good as it gets
Great day on a challenging golf course. Undulating greens makes it a good test. Would love to play it again. Only critique is bunkers need some work
Great Track
This course is for the serious golfer, very challenging conditions and visually intimidating tee shots. It's also extremely beautiful and scenic with great views of the valley below and wildlife on the course. We saw rabbits, roadrunners, lizards and many different kinds of birds.
I thouroghly enjoyed my rounds here! The greens were smooth and fast (bentgrass) and the practice facility is amazing! I hope to come back again soon and play again. The design of this course is so complex it would take multiple rounds to learn the best way to play each hole.
Beautifull but stupid course
Satff is cool, amenities are superb, the views are amazing but if you want to have fun on a golf course go somewhere else... I am a 7 hdcp, played a lot of golf courses and never saw greens so stupidly designed...Sorry mr. Nichlaus, you missed this one...If you don't putt the ball on the right place on the green, i mean a 10x10 patch you are dead...Sorry, i'm not a negative person but sincerely I understand that even the PGA tour guys didn't like this course. Never gonna spend 100$can. (Hot deal) to be beaten like that again.

It's all about the greens
Beautiful setting with a typical Nicholas layout. Fairways narrowed or bunkered at tee off distances, elevated green complexes with severe run offs and multi tiered slopes.
Course was in great condition l for an early April round.
Bring your A game or lots of balls.
Day at Dove Mtn
Spectacular scenery and challenging courses will not disappoint. Very disappointed with the apathetic approach by staff and pro shop. Clearly the course is not getting much play as evidenced by the lack of activity on a gorgeous April day. Too expensive given so many excellent choices in the area if you're going to be treated poorly...
Seriously good golf course
This facility has it all. Be warned. The course is very difficult especially in strong wind. Bring lots of golf balls and your sense of humor.
Outstanding!
Best in class in every way.
Very challenging from tee to green and even more so with pin positions.
Suarrao (so?) IS A MUST PLAY!
Staff was terrific.
Thanks, Jack?
There is so little I enjoyed about this course it's sad. Hit some nice shots into the greens and drove up to find I'd rolled off and was 20-40 yards off the green. To many tee shots that are just dumb with fairways that end. Only used driver a few times. Unfair and not fun to play it for a first time. As far as big league courses go, this was by far my least favorite.
Wonderful track!
This was my third time playing this jewel and each time I find a new nuance that is worth the trip. Great layout. Great condituon. Excellent staff.
It's a gotta play for anyone looking for beauty and challenge.
Amazing course in a botanical garden.
I have never seen desert golf as beautiful as this. Pristine desert with no homes on the course. More cactus varieties and other plants plus jackrabbits than you can imagine. It is a challenge, mainly due to extensive bunkering and undulating greens. Don't worry about your score. It's worth the drive. I played it on a Friday in March for about $114 and it was worth every penny.
