The Golf Club at Dove Mountain - Tortolita/Wild Burro
About
The desert foothills of the Tortolita Mountain Range provide the stunning backdrop for the three nines designed by Jack Nicklaus at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain. They are played in three different 18-hole combinations, one of them being Tortolita/Wild Burro. The Tortolita nine serves as the back nine for the PGA Tour's Accenture Match Play Championship, but Nicklaus considers Wild Burro to be the best of the three. Playing through canyons and desert washes, the golf course features dramatic elevation changes and stunning views. Tortolita's third hole has the highest elevation at the club while the ninth hole on Wild Burro is the longest finishing hole of any of the nines. The intricately contoured greens and strategic fairway bunkering provide a challenge for even experienced golfers.

Love-Hate Relationship
I have a love-hate relationship with this course. I think this is the best course in Tucson to play if you don't mind an extremely difficult course. This course has a great layout, well maintained, great staff and service. However, you better be playing your best if you want to score well.
Challenging Track
Interesting design, challenging, but fair for the most part. Excellent condition, except for a few greens that were bumpy. I concur with other reviewers that the greens are a bit tricky with some ridiculous undulations that penalize you dearly if you are in the wrong spot. I play to about a 6 so I enjoyed the challenge, even though I had my fair share of 3 putts. The staff is top notch through and through. They were all friendly and accommodating. Frankly they were some of the friendliest staff I have experienced. Pace of play was great and it was pretty much wide open. Fun Fact: Lee Janzen played a few groups behind me that day which was pretty cool and Tom Watson had played there the day before (wish I had been there for that).
Very difficult course for the average player
Excellent condition. Very challenging. Needed better signage for directions to certain holes
Great course for the serious golfer. Played with 2 high handicappers that didn't enjoy it as much as me because of the difficulty. Beautiful views and well maintained all the way around. Greens are large and very challenging to putt.
Lives up to its rep
The staff was very friendly and helpful, the course is tough but playable if you play from the right tees and the the course from tee to green was in excellent shape. My only criticism was that the greens were quite bumpy from the footprints and, of course, being a resort course nobody EVER would think to bend over and repair a pitch mark. The greens are quite hilly and fast so they are difficult even without the over watering. All in all, a great experience. And we played as a twosome in under 4 hours which is decent for such a challenging course.
Looking for a challenge
Tough course, great condition, friendly staff, would say it is a must to play!
great track but
Great viewes, great layout but being a 6 handicap I feel the greens are unnecessarily too difficult. Very undulating and very much sectioned off into very small landing areas. I played the 6700 yard distance. I played with a 16 handicap who played the copper tees and they shot 112. A bad overall day for them and because of the greens did not enjoy the beautiful course. They did thoroughly enjoy the layout, the viewes and staff who were outstanding but the greens were just too difficult.
Putt Putt Greens
The only issue with this course is the greens! I feel like I'm at the amusement park playing miniature golf. I see why Pro's won't play this course. Everything else is great -redo the greens.
Hey "neb1tjs" thank you for coming out to play. Now that you have seen the greens maybe next time won't be as tough!
Excellent Course
Dove Mountain is a great course. It is a drive to get up there, but worth it. The only drawback we had was the cart path only requirement due to overseeding which slowed the pace. Anyone wanting to test their skills on a desert course should put Dove Mountain on their list. It would not be fun for beginners or lesser skilled players.
Hey "tshaworth" thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review! We really appreciate the 5*s and positive feedback and hope to see you again soon!
A Great Day at Dove Mountain
Course layout is challenging and very scenic. We played in October so greens fees were very reasonable (cart path only). Would strongly recommend you include a round at Dove Mountain for your next golf trip to the Tucson area.
Hey "dcraig1947" thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review! We really appreciate the endorsement and hope to see you again soon!
Bliss
We make a point of playing this course every time we visit Tucson. The sights and views are great, the course is in great shape, the amenities are top notch and it is a true desert experience.
Hey "uFEBQ2890FE" we really appreciate you taking the time to come play everytime you are in town! We look forward to seeing you again next time.
Slow play
What could have been a great round of golf turned in to a laborious afternoon. The round took almost 6 hours. I never saw a course marshal. I have played here before when the pace of play was good. I will not be back until I hear pace of play has improved.
Hey "George6360305" we are so sorry to hear about your experience at the golf course. Can you please send us more information about your reservation to dovemountain@outlook.com. Thank you!
Outstanding golf outing
Great course with numerous bunkers and undulating greens. Spectacular views with the course nestled in with the natural beauty of the desert and mountains.
Hi ghalverson,
Thank you for leaving a five star review of our course! We are happy to know you enjoyed your round as well as the beautiful scenic views! Hope we see you back for another fun round of golf soon!

Best course in Tucson
Top notch golf experience at Dove Mountain best course in Tucson by far. Staff is very friendly and helpfull, If you spray your driver a little you might want to bring a few extra balls.Played today and got caught by a little rain and 25mph wind on the back nine , course was still alot of fun.
Hey "john3257663" thank you so much for the 5* review! We appreciate the kind words about our staff and course! We look forward to having you back out here soon!
Bunkers Galore!
Saguaro and Wild Burro are extremely difficult. Lots of interrupted fairways with desert areas. Be prepared to play out of the sand..... a lot! Don't be discouraged if the numbers on your scorecard are a bit higher than normal. The views alone are worth the extra strokes!
Hey "Deanna5322237" thank you for the 5* review! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the views and hope to see you again soon!
Typical Nicklaus
My first experience with a Jack Nicklaus design course was the Bear in Traverse City 25 years ago. As a 4 handicap at the time, I found it to be a course Jack Nicklaus would like, but way too tough for normal good golfers, One that was long and required high fades, deep bunkers, and serious undulation in the greens. I found this course to be unmemorable. All the par fours seemed the same. All around 410 from the copper tees.Almost every green had a double break in it. The scenery is beautiful. If you are staying at the resort, it is worth playing once, probably from the forward tees if you want to have some enjoyment.
Hey "barrysg1214. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are glad that you enjoyed the scenery! Come back and see us again soon.
Hey "hitnhard13" thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to hear that you and your playing partner had a difficult time putting on the greens. Now that you have seen the course next time shouldn't be as difficult!
