Wildhorse Golf Club of Robson Ranch - South/West Course

About
The Wildhorse Golf Club is the first of three planned courses for the Robson Ranch Community outside of Denton. Designed by architect Gary Stephenson, the course opened the second nine in October 2002.
The signature hole is on the front, a 566-yard par 5 that requires a monster drive followed by two demanding approach shots.
Getting there : From Dallas take I-35 to Denton and look for the 35 W split. This takes you back towards the south to Fort Worth for 6 miles, where you’ll take the Robson Ranch exit. Drive 1.5 miles west and look for the course.

North/South course
My only complaint is with the condition of the South course. Other than that this is an outstanding facility.
Played the North/South courses. Teed off first on the North course of which is in great shape from tee to green. However once we made the turn and went to the first tee on the South course I was stunned at how poorly the course was from tee to green on all nine holes it was evident that the layout is totally neglected except for the greens. The grass is dead and mowed down to the ground. The sad part about this experience is that the facility still charges you full rate for a course that should be closed. And the front desk never mentioned the course was in this bad condition. 10/2/2025
Great Day and wonderful course
Other than the round being cart path only, [not the fault of Wildhorse, obviously] the round was great and challenging. The driving range, practice green, chipping area and the west and north courses were outstanding. The course is in great shape, offers good challenges and provides a really enjoyable day.
They don’t want public golfers.
Semi private gated community. They don’t want public golfers. That was the vibe. The members will take over the course as you play.
No cart beverages none. Very hot out no wind no water. Range closed. South course closing but still played on burned out grass.
Been living in Dallas for 26 years. Worst golf course I’ve been to. Avoid this place.
Great Day at Wildhorse
Played the West-North combination on a Saturday afternoon. Course was in great shape and we flew finishing in less than 4 hours. Saw the car girl numerous times. Only area for improvement - it would have been nice to have had some type of halfway service at the turn. Had to go to the restaurant bar and it was not very convenient. Other than that, it was a 10!
Great Course
Wildhorse is one of my favorite courses to play. 3 fun 9’s that are fun layouts. It is always in fantastic shape and greens roll true. A little pricey but great course.
Good course with a lack of hospitality
First time playing the course. Played the North and South courses (black tees) and teeing off at 1230p.
The course is a bit of a drive from Plano where I live but it wasn't a bad drive. I got to the course and when I checked in they told me which 9's I was playing and then proceeded to give me directions to the first nine which went something like "go back out the parking lot the way you came in and get on the entry road and go 100 yards". Well of course I turned the wrong way and wound up driving through the subdivision. The point is they need to have some signs as you are seemingly driving off the course to get to the tee box.
At the first tee I was informed that there was no drink cart running which given that it was 100 degrees out seemed to be a major miss. Once on the course the conditions were very nice, fairways were in great shape and the greens where likewise well groomed. The North course finishes with two very difficult long (455 and 460 from the black) par 4s that play right into the wind.
Made the turn and wanted to get a snack but guess what? The snack bar was closed. It closes at 2p. The course was very busy but they close the snack bar mid-afternoon. As I was pulling away another group was pulling up to hit the snack bar and were likewise disappointed when I told them it was closed. I'm reminded of an Adam Sandler SNL skit where his character was saying "who's the marketing genius that came up with that one?"
The South course was a little easier with a couple good par 5s and mostly mid to short par 4s.
A few things things about course conditions stood out, one was that the greens were very hard, not rock hard but close to it. With the firmness of the greens you might think they were fast, they weren't. Next, the rough is very sticky. Probably the stickiest rough I've played in. If you got your club into it even a little bit it would grab hold of it and definitely cost you significant distance. You had to really force your club through to get the ball where you wanted it to go. Finally the course is pretty flat with only a couple of mild elevation changes on a few holes. Again, this was only the North and South courses so maybe the West course has more elevation change.
Overall the play was enjoyable and I'd like to go back when they hire a some drink cart girls and open the snack bar later.
Excellent shape
Course conditions were excellent - fairways were green and plush, rough thick and greens were extremely smooth and rolled great. Staff from check-in to starter to departure were all very friendly and helpful. Fee was a bit pricey at $112 for a morning weekday tee time but conditions helped justify. Only drawback was extremely slow pace of play that day - nearly five hours. Have played previously there and usually the pace of play is very good.
Great outing
Would recommend to anyone looking for great place to play.
Nice Course In A Nice Area
First time playing at Wildhorse for my wife and I (both seniors). Overall an above average course that based upon the number of private carts is heavily played by local residents. I found the tees, fairways and bunkers in great shape. The greens appeared to have been sanded and were a bit bumpy. However, there were a couple of storms in the area the day before that could have been a contributing factor.
